Put simply, the Wii will win. This is because Nintendo have marketed their home console towards a wider demographic this time around, and so it is bound to sell impressively amongst gamers and non-gamers alike. I predict that the Wii will sell in the region of 80 million copies.

In second place, I believe, will come the PlayStation 3. Although Sony have made extremely detrimental mistakes in the promotion of their hardware, their fanbase is just too large for the company to suffer significantly this generation. Furthermore, the PS3 is technically the most powerful console, and there is bound to be a price drop later on. I predict that the PS3 will sell in the region of 60 million copies.

And in last place is Microsoft's Xbox 360. Despite the console's excellent graphics and online service, it just cannot compete with Nintendo's innovation and Sony's fanbase. Nevertheless, the company will enjoy reasonable success, especially with exclusives such as Halo 3. I predict that the 360 will sell in the region of 40 million copies.

But do take these sales estimations with a pinch of salt, as I have not studied the subject in detail by any means. Nonetheless, I stand by my prediction that the 7th generation console war will finish with the Wii in first place, the PS3 in second, and the 360 in third.

Gross underestimate of all consoles I think.

Wii- 90million + consoles sold.

X360- 60 million consoles sold

PS3- 45 million consoles sold.

im glad there was no fanboy logic to your argument exept you missed one thing infact many things.

in my humble opinion i would have to rate it this waybecause this is how i beleive the final numbers will slide

1. wii - its fun for all the gamily and lets face it we all own a wii if you dont your nobody

2. xbox 360 in my opinion it has all the games and the best online service

3. weres the AAA? it has all this power why arnt we seeing it being used.

No console will get 100 mil this gen since Wii is not as defective as the past playstaions. and why do you have 40 mil as the minimum when obviously the market is not that big to support such high numbers for all consoles.

iI think it will be a tight race with it being more like 50,30,25 mil 

I think wii will get first because it does a good job at attracting casuals.

2nd place will be PS3 IF a large portion of it's fanbase decides to stay loyal to Sony.

In terms of being first when it comes to games (IMO, and only at this moment)

3rd: PS3

Fan base? Yeah umm most gamers are not fanboys like on this forum. They only go for systems with better games, thats why the PS2 was kicking @$$ and taking games. This gen is different. Most people who had a PS2 now are buying a 360 because the PS3 just flat out sucks. The games suck and most exclusives are now on the 360, the controller is horrible, and most importantly $600!!!

Wii will win because of motion control and price. Even people who already have a 360 get a Wii on the side because they can afford it. Although the motion controller eventually gets boring and then you realize how kiddy the games are(unless your a kid). The 360 is just targeted at gamers and more specifically at the biggest gaming market, America.

I don't know! Lets just say I'm going off a hunch. 

As mentioned before, the only reason the PS2 sold so well was because of it's defectivity. There were probably only about 60 million sold. (not counting seconds, thirds, fourths, fifths etc).

However that is still a substanial amount. Here are my predictions:

1. Wii --- 80 million (+20 million)

2. PS3 --- 50 million (+20 million)

3. Xbox 360 --- 40 million (+10 million)

The "(+ xmillion)" is my prediction of how well the console will sell in the next generation.
