Its weird how much of a difference there is between the reviews for this game. I don't care what the reviewers say though, I thought the demo was tons of fun, so I'm getting it.
As a sony fan, I am SO relieved that Crackdown didn't get a higher rating. After all, seeing Xbox 360 users suffer is my sure delight. Now I just have to wait for DMC4, MGS4, etc.
I think the difference between IGN's score and Gamespots score reflects what this game is all about: fun for some, none for others. If you've alread played out Grand Theft Auto or Saints Row, Crackdown is going to feel pretty repetitive once you get over the added abilities. I think if you approach the game for what it is and you don't compare it with similar games like GTA, you got a solid game that should be ranked somewhere between 8 and 8.5.
I find it funny no one gave this game the time of day til the Halo 3 beta was announced with it. Everyone assumed it would be TERRIBLE, like SUPER BAD, like scoring in the 6 range. Then the demo releases, and Halo 3 beta is announced, and people were like OMG AA or OMG AAA!!! I personally am so over the whole "sandbox" genre. I don't care what twists are put on it.
