2 games with great character models, which looks better overall? *poll*(no56k)

Having seen thread after thread tearing Mass Effect apart for lacking background details. I thought it only seemed fair to compare Mass Effect and MGS4 against each other because they both have amazing character models, but which one truely lacks the background detail?

I honestly tried to find pictures with more color for MGS4, but as of right now I couldn't find any. IMHO, MGS4 looks very drab and bland. Hardly any real detail other than sand, stucko and brick. Mass Effect on the other hand has a nice diverse selection of settings and looks far more impressive overall (graphics wise).

MGS really needs to use some more colors in that gazzillion color pallet that next gen systems have. Looks like someone pumped up the contrast.

We saw new ME screens yesterday, and we've seen new MGS4 shots....? It's a hard comparison. Endfinal

Pretty much what I was thinking, hopefully we will get new screenshots from E3 to compare with instead.

But, mgs4's character models far outshines mass effects. Once we see footage that doesn't use placeholder textures, I'm sure mgs4 will rock you.

i think both games look awesome.

Mgs4 has a long way to go yet. It'll look just as good as mASs effect does right now, ignoring the odd dodgy mass effectshot with weak textures. Imo i think the final mgs4 character models will look better than MASss effect, just because of how phenomenal konami are at that.

Can anyone explain to me why capcom's resident evil character models are so good even on gamecube in comparison to the legend of zelda on the wii !?!?!

well i think this is a good way to look at it, both games have shown great things so far and will be top of line in graphicswhen they are realesed but mass effect being a new game might have a few faults and it could be any where from a 7.5-10, but MGS4 will be a great game just because its metal gear and it will be above an 8.5. Im not bashing mass effect at all but you can never really know with a new game untill its realeased.

Well MGS4 pics are in-game gameplay, the Mass Effect screens are from cutscenes. It would be nicer if you took some of the cutscene pictures from the game so we could make a better comparison, like one where we can actually see Snake's face.Truth-slayer

you're kidding right? every picture you see from mass effect are all in-game, even the cutscenes. the devs said this in the x06 videos. the reason the pics differ from month to month is that they are taking from different builds of the game. all these pics, none of which are new, are in-game. even these:

this link is from the mass effect community forum in which even the community coordinator said the pics and vids are in-game from different builds.

for more proof of it being in-game, watch the X06 trailer and "see the best RPG of E3 in action" video to hear the devs say it's in-game.

MGS4 character models is not possible on the 360. the 360 won't even be able to render snake's mustache:|PowerCharged

hold on a sec. A tech demo from E3 2005? Isn't that the EXACT same E3 where Sony said the Killzone video was real time as well? :lol: All that "real time" means to Sony is "here's a CGI video of a game being displayed at the MAX potential of the PS3's power." sry buddy, but CGI vids and cutscenes that aren't rendered in real time don't count here. This is all based off the actual character models from the in game engine. Nothing more.

BTW, I personally think that not only do the character models look far better in Mass Effect, but so the backgrounds by a mile. I'm still waiting for the PotentialStation3 to show me something that warrants me spending $600 on a over priced gaming console (I don't want Blu Ray so I wouldn't be buying because that's included).

that's not the point. the point was that it was a tech demo, not in-engine or in-game. that's like putting a toy story dvd in a ps2 and claiming the ps2 was capable toy story graphics.

I find it funny why you are crying about a tech demo. Mass Effect has only shown tech demos of the game. They really haven'tshown that much gameplay videos compared to uncharted, or halo 3.
