Did you not read the quote. He specifically said its selling above their expectations. They never expected the PS4 Pro to be their leading platform in terms of sales. You're ignorant to even think that.

PS4 Pro is simply a more premium PS4, not a true next gen successor. It was always meant to be sold to a niche hardcore fan base, so in that respect its doing very well. Bringing up the PSVR is irrelevant to the topic at hand.

The Pro was never going to be an impact product. Those sales are pretty good imo.

Seeing as they've sold over 400 million Playstation consoles to date I'd say their expectations as to what a success or flop is is more credible than a random fanboy like you.

Their expectations were this low? How is 20% impressive? If you do not own a PS4, there are no reason to even consider the original ps4. If this was a good console worth 'upgrading' to, it would have been in the 35% or more.

Kind of goes to show that most people really value price over anything. That $100 less is that much more appealing.

That means the Pro has sold ~2.75 million units

Oct-Dec 31st, PS4 sold 9.7m. The first month of that didn't have a Pro - but also didn't hit the holiday glut either, so much of that 9.7 probably didn't happen in Oct either.

As of Jan 1st, PS4 had sold 53.4m. It has just passed 60m. 60-53.4 = 6.6m this calendar year. This means From Oct-now we are looking at roughly 16.3million PS4s sold (jesus...).

20% of 16.3 = 3.26. Hack off some random amount due to Oct and the fact it is "close to" (not actually) 20%, and we're getting close to a PS4 Pro sales estimate

Yeah but it's also because most people don't have 4k TVs and don't plan to upgrade anytime soon.

You typically will get better performance from these systems on the standard HD TV. Thats worth noting.

Speaking off. Sony needs to be slapped for not including a 4k Blu-ray player in the PS4 Pro.

Did you honestly believe a niche console like the PS4 Pro would be 50% of all current PS4 sales? Come on now. 20% is actually very good for the target audience.

And a potential $50 price drop this year will only boost sales further. Its tracking very nicely as a more niche product. I wonder if Scorpio will manage the same.

A $100 price difference matters to the average gamer. Again, the PS4 Pro was never meant to compete with the vanilla PS4 in terms of sales.

The only way the PS4 Pro would have sold more is if it was the true successor to the PS4 and had exclusive games. The PS4 Pro is really nothing more than a glorified graphics card upgrade.

I wouldn't bet on that $50 price drop. Sales have been doing fine. No reason to drop the price until sales start to slow.

I think they merge PS4 and PS4 Pro when talking about quarterly sales expectations. Which makes sense since the PS4 Pro could just be considered another SKU instead of a totally separate device. It is literally just a PS4 with double the CU count and some clockspeed tweaks.

Above expectations is a pretty clear-cut remark. They had very low expectations going in and they were surprised that it did much better. What is there to damage control? They are being humble if anything.

PS4 is the worst enemy for PS4 Pro i.e. the gap is not enough enough. Perhaps more sub-1080p PS4 games could push PS4 Pro.

XBO S has inferior 1080p gaming results while PS4's 1080p results are superior to XBO. There's extra need and want factors for Scorpio since XBO HW is garbage.

If I have PS4, it don't see large need for PS4 Pro at this time, but when more PS4 games hitting less than 1080p, then PS4 Pro would be needed.

By the time the pro starts selling on a regular basis it will be incredibly outdated. It will be ps4 pro slim time while they push out a new product.

This would be easier to judge if we knew the total amount of Ps4's sold since the Pro came out. A percentage is one thing, actual numbers are another.
