Sony? Microsoft? Nintendo?

I think over the past few years there has been a kind of clear "winner" as in which big company had the best overall year.

2005 - Microsoft released the Xbox 360 and there was all the hype before it and yadda-yadda.
        - Sony continued pressing on with the Playstation 2 and did very well for so late in its lifespan. They also began properly hyping the PS3.
        - Nintendo didn't really do very much. They unveiled the long awaited "Revolution" controller, and shocked and surprised many, overall an uneventful year outside of the DS.

My rankings for 2005:

1. Microsoft
2. Sony
3. Nintendo

2006 - Microsoft launched Gears of War as a hard hitter, and there were a couple of other  games riddled in there, but nothing major.
-Sony in my opinion didn't have a great year, compared to the other two anyway. However, there were a couple of major announcements, and the release of the PS3 was obviously a good thing for them.
-Nintendo had a very very good year last year. The information about up and coming games plus announcements about everything the Wii has in Channels sparked interest everywhere. And to top it all off the DS was creaming the PSP.

 My rankings for 2006:

1. Nintendo
2. Microsoft
3. Sony

2007 -
Now this year could be interesting. Nintendo have their line up of brilliant games. Microsoft don't appear to have very much, and Sony have Home.

What do you guys think will happen this year? And what do you think of my rankings? Fair? Unfair?

I guess we'll find more out at E3.

I wouldnt count MS out that quick for 2007. Remember they have Halo3 and some other possible killer apps (Mass Effect) . Sony can go either way as they only have unproven franchises as exclusives (No MGS or FF till 2008). But if Nintendo manages to release SSBB, SMG and MP3 this year, they will be the clear winner.

Microsoft don't appear to have much? What?

Sony has HOME? What?

I'm a sheep and Microsoft has their best games this year and Sony has more than HOME.  And yes Nintendo does have some brilliant games lined up.

Nintendo. With the success of the Wii and DS Lite it looks like there is no end in sight. This year the Wii gets SUper Mario Galaxy and Metroid Prime 3 Corruption, and the DS gets Zelda: The Phantom Hourglass.

2007, the year of... SPORE! :D

I think it'd be best to wait until 2008 before deciding which company had the best 2007. :P

Nothing on consoles this year has been impressive. Wii will get online, PS3 finishes there online with Home, X360 getting Halo 3 hopefully. But there's a big drought for the big 3 until september, so it'd be tough to call.

What games does Nintendo have? Their big hitters don't even have dates yet so I wouldn't be surprised if they were delayed, just like every other big hitter Nintendo releases.

Any way nothing can compete with this lineup and I'm not even listing all the games:

360 Console Exclusives:
Halo 3:

Forza Motorsports 2:

Shadowrun:

Too Human:

Mass Effect:

Blue Dragon:

Alan Wake:

BioShock:

Banjo Kazooie:

Lost Odyssey:

Project Gotham Racing 4:

Eternal Sonata:

Fable 2:

360 Non Exclusives:
Command & Conquer 3 Tiberium Wars:

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix:

Virtua Fighter 5:

John Woo Presents Stranglehold:

Culdcept Saga:

Half-Life 2: Orange Box:

Grand Theft Auto IV:

Devil May Cry 4:

Guitar Hero III:

Beautiful Katamari:

Assassin's Creed:

Unreal Tournament 3:

Then add in a better system in the Elite, a price drop and more XBL support, well you get the picture of who will completely own 2007.

True that. But Bioware did make Kotor, so I suppose they have some credibility.

If i can really be bothered i could muster up an equally impressive line-up of POTENTIAL killer games coming up this year for both the PS3 & Wii.

It's between Nintendo and Microsoft... Personally I'm not all that interested in what MS is bringing, but very interested in almost everything Nintendo's got lined up.

As far as sales... No question Nintendo. It'll get ahead, by alot, and once you've got a strong lead it's hard to break that momentum (more gamers buying the "popular console," more people to buy 3rd party games, and it doesn't limit itself to only the people that want to play shooting games) By this time next year I bet we'll be seeing PS3 and MS try and fight it out for a far 2nd place much like GC and Xbox of the last generation.

I think over the past few years there has been a kind of clear "winner" as in which big company had the best overall year.

armatage_shanks

I think 2005 went more

1. Sony 2. Microsoft 3. Nintendo

There's no doubting that Nintendo was last, even as a fan of theirs, the Gamecube was dying and while they had unveiled the "Revolution", it didn't constitute a major success since it wasn't in the market yet.   However, the PS2 was still selling very well (and still is now), and the xbox 360 had a rocky launch.   While the 360's launch did put it farther ahead of Nintendo for 2005, I think Sony did better since PS2 sales maintained status.   Also, I don't believe they had unveiled the PS3's price yet?   If they hadn't then, it was still being received moderately.

Saying Microsoft has nothing this year is a bit strange though.   As I said above, I'm a fan of Nintendo, but there's no avoiding that Halo 3 will be a big game. (as in it will sell well)   And they have Mass Effect and various other good games.   Also, Sony has MGS4, Lair, Heavenly Sword, Ratchet & Clank, and some others.   Nintendo has an all-star lineup for sure, but they haven't told us if they're going to make 2007 with all of them.   (MP3, SSBB, SMG, among others.)

My thoughts exactly. I love the PC, and if people would realize that a console compliments the PC when it comes to gaming, not competes, as they are apples and oranges in my eyes.

2007 is really the year of gaming, as all 3 console makers will have really awesome games, but as a business standspoint, Nintendo will win if the trend of sales and popularity continue.

Gears launched toward the end of 2006. 1 major release after 1 year on the market.

Nintendo launched with Zelda at launch. 1 major release. But I keep see reports this game was scheduled to the previous console and nintendo just held off and released it with the wii.

Ps3 - 1 new IP called Resistance. Love it or hate it, it was a new IP at launch.

There MIGHT be 2 or 3 games on my list that get pushed back until next year, where as that is all Nintendo has. I didn't even list all of the games so it isn't like they couldn't be replaced, where as nothing is replacing SSBB or Mario Galaxy.

Since when did crap games figure into the equation? I guess that is what sheep do now a days since really all they can brag about are sales of Wii? They sure as hell can't brag about the games.
