I've come up with a theory of my own here. I call it the Alternating Years Theory. It basically states that each console, at least in this generation, will have alternating years of success. At least, in terms of games. Gears of War made 2007 a great 360 year (even though it came out in 2006), Halo 3 made 2007 a 360 year, Mass Effect as well.
2008 is DESTINED to be the year of the PS3 with its major franchises coming in like GoW3 (assuming) and MGS4. But in 2009, the system won't have those titles.
Instead, Xbox 360 should have Mass Effect 2, GeoW2, etc. 2009 will be the year to have an Xbox 360.
And then 2010 will be another PS3 year. And then it goes on.
What I'm saying here, is that you should have both consoles to exact the most out of games. Now, I can't predict how sales will turn out or anything, don't get me wrong. Right now, the System Wars are so tied that there is no true majority-developer preference and the game numbers should even out before the end of the War, assuming one doesn't suddenly blast off ahead of the other. I don't think we have another PS2 on our hands, we have a Wii, which will sell regardless of the PS3 or 360.
To improve or update my theories, I need some thoughts!
