There is a good point offered in the post, but i don't fully agree. The Wii is off to a great start. SSBB was recently released. then next we have Mario Kart Wii on its way... Fatal Frame 4, and Disaster: Day of crisis, which are both listed for '08, i think will be wicked games, that lots of people will buy, therefore keeping the wii going strong. Who knows what else Ninty has in the works.. even the third party devs that we have yet to hear from.

The 360 has stronger software sales its in a vey strong position, 2008 with its possible AAA games that have more depth than any wii game could have can possibly change this to the year of the 360
How do you know brawl is a good game? Review scores!!!!!! of course any gamer would know that but we all know Brawl was going to rock. But thats what johnny casual is seeing, so it is valid in saying who is having a good year. Lost Odyssey may have gotten a 7.5, but it will rely on word of mouth reviews to the majority of gamers who don't visit forums because it was only fairly reviewed. Having games get great reviews, promotes awareness, with in turn will help sales and the overall image of your console, so I think review scores do have merit is determining success.
So anyway
One of the reasons is games, yet MGS4 is still months away. So half a year before the biggest game of the year for Sony comes out. It has GTA4 but so does the 360, so in what is supposed to be Sony's year, we have to wait through HALF of it to get to the good stuff.
Wii has 2 great games that are exclusive to that console. they are already availible.Wii still outsells PS3 and 360.Wii still has a heavy hitter in April, then WiiFit, and god knows what Nintendo will pull out this summer.
So maybe I should rephrase. The Wii is outclassing the Ps3 and 360 by having two of the best games of 2008 already availble to consumers while everybody else plays the waiting game.

Having played Brawl I honestly have to say, it's fun, but it only really plays differently from Melee (for the average person) because of Final Smash. The single player experience got beefed up, and the removal of the glitched movements changes tourney play, but really, it's extremely overhyped. Like much of the Wii's library, it's fun, but to call it "outclassing" the 360, PS3, and PC? No, it's really not.
How do I know Brawl is a good game? Because it's a good game. Review scores have absolutely nothing to do with that. In fact, ask Kevin-V how he knows if a game is good or not. Do the reviewers look at other review scores? Where does the first review score come from - Narnia?
Johnny Casual doesn't give a crap about review scores, there are games which have gotten low review scores and sold well. There are also many games which have been reviewed well (8.0+) and still sold terribly. A good review scores boosts sales, but it's not "all that", and for certain game lines (Madden, Brawl, Halo) a low score really means little - the game will sell well regardless of what the media thinks.

If Wii Fit to you means that Nintendo is "winning" I think you need to take a more honest, critical look at what being a gamer means, versus simply being a consumer of whatever Nintendo wants to call a game. There's nothing wrong with Brawl, but it's simply one game - you might as well say "the 360's got Halo 3, war over".
In the end, you're still ignoring the "review score divide" - that is, a review score on one platform does not equate to a review score on another - you cannot say "a 9.5 on the Wii equals a 9.5 on the 360 equals a 9.5 on PC" - the standards are different, the expectations are different. Only in the world of SW do we seem to ignore standards, expectations, and audience.

Thankfully, our vote last year placed Anarchy as the winner, so ultimately review scores and sales are just as meaningless as they ever were. Really that's the right way for it to be - consumers don't magically have a better system because it sells an extra 500,000 units, and consumers don't have a better or worse game simply because reviewers got excited (or didn't).

thats a big "may", considering the ps3 hasnt once been able to outsell the Wii on a monthly basis World-wide. so the gap between the ps3 and Wii has widened ever since launch
if youre talking about software, the wii even outsold the 360 in software in America last month, and its killing everything else in japan.
europe is somewhat of a deadlock in terms of software for all 3 companies, but Wii stills outsells everything in terms of hardware

How so? Last year was 360's golden lineup year (for that i mean, it'll hardly have a better lineup than that), and yet it's sales were down 18%, and the PS3 outsold it by 1.5 million units. This year the 360 already sold hundreds of thousands less than the PS3. That's before all the PS3 big hitters are out. I agree with you that PS3 and 360 are fighting for second place, that is undebatable. I'm a personal fan of the PS3, and it pains me to say it: there is little to no hope of ps3 outselling the wii within the next year, and a very small chance of it outselling the wii by the end of this gen.

And although some would say that it's because of Blu-ray (and that may be part of it), the real reason is that Sony has finally woken up and realized that it needs to change its strategy, refocus its efforts and make an impact now before it's too late.

According to its most recent sales figures, NPD claims Sony shipped 280,800 units of its Playstation 3, compared to 254,600 Xbox 360 units shipped and 432,000 shipped Wii units. And although the difference in sales figures is far more noticeable when the PS3 is compared to the Wii, these numbers suggest a shift is occurring in the market.
Is the Wii doing well? Sure. And so far, there is no indication that it will slow down anytime soon. And considering Super Smash Bros Brawl is a great title that deserves the accolades it's receiving, I don't expect any slow down in Wii sales for at least the next three months. Because of that, the Wii will definitely sit atop this generation by the end of the year, but I'm not sold on the fact that it will hold that title forever.
But I digress. The fact of the matter is 2008 will be the year of the Playstation 3 and it'll be Microsoft that has the hardest time making ends meet. And though that may be hard for some Microsoft zealots to handle, the proof is in the titles and offerings that simply cannot be found on the Xbox 360.
Reason 1: Blu-ray
Alright, so maybe Blu-ray isn't exactly the most important element of the PS3 on people's minds, but rest assured that it does matter to some. After all, when a person runs to the store looking for their next video game console, their ability to play high-definition movies should come into play, right?
As I've said before, Microsoft has made a mistake by not forming a deal with Sony to develop a Blu-ray player for its Xbox 360. The company is under the impression that most consumers couldn't care less about Blu-ray, but considering the cost of owning either console is quite close if we match specs to specs, and a 40GB PS3 is actually $50 cheaper than an Xbox 360 Elite, why wouldn't someone buy the better-equipped device?
Reason 2: Games
More than likely, your first response to that question was games. Sure, the Xbox 360 currently has a more solid library of games and I simply don't think there's any debating the fact that Microsoft has done much better than Sony at luring developers to its side. But if we look at the upcoming release calendar, I would certainly give the nod to Sony.
And although many titles overlap like, GTA IV, the major headline of the Playstation 3's upcoming release calendar is Metal Gear Solid 4. The Metal Gear series has always been the cornerstone of Sony's video game library and has sold almost 20 million copies worldwide. Knowing this, there's no reason to suggest MGS4 can't be another big hit and one that should sell a considerable number of consoles for Sony. And when that happens, this race will become even more interesting.
Games sell hardware -- they always have and they always will. And it's that golden rule that will win out this year.

More than anything else, Sony has finally realized that it can't rest on its laurels expecting the world to stop and wait for it to catch up. In fact, Sony may have finally realized that the original PS3 SKU was detrimental to the company's entire business strategy.
But for once, Sony admitted its mistakes and took it upon itself to right the ship. By working closer with developers and creating more compelling reasons to buy the PS3 with significant price drops and more robust offerings, Sony looks like it's finally doing all the right things to turn the tide.
And it's for that reason that 2008 will be the year of the Playstation 3 and one that should be exciting to watch.

ps3 hasnt outsold the Wii on a World-Wide monthly basis ever. if they do that once, then maybe it would make sense to think that it could outsell it, but i just dont see that so far.
PS3 sales going up, Wii says stay halted. It makes sense to realize that the possibility of playstation 3 outselling the wii is greatly increased by this fact.
