2009 = possibly the best year in game history?

Are we really looking forward to a golden year in 2009... one that surpasses the mighty 1998?

I won't name them all, but some heavy hitters are: Killzone 2, Resident Evil 5, Starcraft 2, Empire: Total war, God of war 3, Final fantasy XIII, Operation Flashpoint 2, Dawn of war 2, Grand Turismo 5, and quite possibly Mass effect 2, new Team ICO game and Diablo 3, + tons of more good stuff. 

Your thoughts?

Yeah, the problem is...will all those games come out? So far the top years in gaming were either 1998, 2001, or 2005.

2009, until the dust settles, may or may not win.

The thing about 1998 was that it was full of a ton of original/revolutionary games. The TC just listed a bunch of sequels.

Anyway, 2009 is certainly looking good, especially on the adventure game front (Gray Matter!).

I can easily say no, when I saw that you started with KZ2.EuroMafia

seeing all the positive feedback its getting from media + gamers in the beta i guess he made a good choice starting with KZ2... dont forget the game should be out in the beginning of 2009 (feb) along the like of SFIV and then RE5 etc etc...

haters know KZ2 looks amazing and has solid gameplay / online, but seems its hard for them to admit it after all the bashing they've done and reminding everyone how KZ1 was an average shooter therefore its sequel MUST/WILL be an average shooter too

I don't know where you lived the past 3 years, but to me that game is being hyped beyond all recognition, now when it's finally arriving, it's going for a 2009 release. Previews show nothing but good news... so including that game in the list is quite obvious to me. And even if that game flops, we have tons of more games. But ok, since I started with KZ2, it seems all 2009 is doomed, your logic is flawless.

With Guerilla, hopefully with Killzone 2, they really looked back at the first one and admitted to what they screwed up on, and what they could do better. If they really focus on that hard, Killzone 2 will be a good game.

thats why i've included the many positive feedback KZ2 is getting from gamers who are in the beta and are actually playing the game... i'd rather stick with their opinion than people (haters) who are just wishing hard this game will flop cause its exclusive to a console they dont own..

uhm, no game you suggested are revolutionary in any aspect.

but i'm not saying that to degrade any of those games.

PROBABLY THE MOST AWESOME/FUN YEAR THIS GENERATION.

Well I don't know about Heavy Rain, but I think MAG will be great. Zipper did really well with the Socom games, it sucks that they didn't work on Confrontation though :(.
