Just noticed that Alpha Protocol is the latest game that was initially gonna release October 6th, then pushed back to the 27th now i'ts pushed back to an unknown date in 2010.

seriously...

2010 may be a wonderful for gamers but that year will be one terrible business plan for them.

seriously...

  1. God of War 3
  2. Mario Galaxy 2
  3. Metroid : Other M
  4. Mass Effect 2
  5. Heavy Rain: Origami Killer
  6. MAG
  7. Bioshock 2
  8. White Knight Chronicles
  9. Halo Reach
  10. Final Fantasy 13
  11. Metal Gear Solid : Peace Walker
  12. Pokermon Soul Silver/HeartGold
  13. StarCraft 2
  14. new WOW Cataclysm
  15. Star Wars Old Republic
  16. Final Fantasy 14
  17. DC Universe
  18. The Agency

i'm not writing all of these out...

point is, ther are way too many possible AA-AAA titles to be jam.

and i mean this on all gaming platforms, whether you only a PC, a DS, a Wii or PS3/360.

I'm seriously starting to think that 2010 will see way too many titles fall into 2011. Also problem is many of those titles people have been waiting for - for years! I'm talking final Fantasy 13, Gran Turismo 5, God of War 3, Heavy Rain: Origami Killer, Mass Effect 2, Star Craft 2, etc.

Wii owners have clamoring for a new flagship game, and they're set for 3 (Mario Galaxy 2, Metroid: Other M, Zelda Wii).

360 owners have their steller exclusives like Halo Reach, and console exclusives like Mass Effect 2, Splinter Cell and the long awaited Alan Wake.

I think 2010 is gonna either be the sink or swim time for these game developers, and from my point of view we WILL see more delays in Q1 2010, there are way too many big named games scheduled for that time. (God of War 3, Bioshock 2, Dante's Inferno is anticipated, possibly Gran Turismo 5) plus toss in MAG, Heavy Rain and White Knight, Bayonetta and the others?

no way.

If they do stick to their release dates, and i can pretty much guarantee that they won't, they'll have to rely on the slow-burn. too many highly anticipated games and too many of them are very well executed.

Anyone elses thoughts out there?

Well whats there to do? Oh I know, the devs could always soften up the burden by pushing them further back. I'm sure we can all wait ANOTHER year for starcraft 2, GT5 and FF13. :P

the gamer inside of me says "too long in development, time to sink or swim" there is also the idea of burning out your hype and becoming irrelevent to the point where even if you just launch it finally the general masses will have given up on it or moved on to something else. the rationale side of me says, games and new IP's expected for 2010 will be pushed back even further into 2011. which doesn't even take into account of the new games we could be hearing over the next couple of months that are in development.

I agree . I don't know how I'm going to afford all of the games I want. I mean your list was good but there is still another half that you didn't mention. It's going to be a bad year for everyone's wallets.

get a job or start selling drugs man. Having to waitt for 2 dates to obtain the best games on the market and not being able to control what you get sucks.

2010 is going to have some big titles, thats for sure.

I'm surprised that no one else has mentioned this.

First of all we can only buy so many games. Heck we can only play so many games. Even if there are 10 AAA games next year it won't matter since some will have poor sales because there is limited demand. Companies that are betting the bank on titles next year could get demolished.

Big companies with deep pockets like EA will be fine but small ones could get crushed.

Too many games got delayed and though we as gamers will benefit this is going to be a nasty brawl for developers.

2010 good year for all gamerskyacat
my thoughts and feelings exactly. sure i'll buy most of the console games for my PS3 because its' my personal preferred gaming platforum, but i will definently be buying Mass Effect 2 for my 360. will definently be getting Valkyria Chronicles 2, Metal Gear Peace Walker, and Kingdom Hearts Birth By Sleep for my PSP Go, and i'll definently be picking up Pokemon Soul Silver and Infinite Space for my DS Lite. there is a lot to choose from and no platform will be left behind.

I just realized a fault in the slow-burn idea.

the idea that a game will still sell well over a course of time.

what owuld completely undercut the publishers and developers would be the used game market. with money tight - gamers by the masses (i tend to buy my games new especially from developers i wanna support, your money truly is your vote of support when you buy new) - will not buy it new but rather get it used.

Do we know for sure that P3 Portable is getting a release outside of Japan? I'd love to be able to play that game on my PSP. I'm disappointed that the Persona remake doesn't have an EU release date yet either

(finally a non-fanboy response from you that i'll bother to respond to - seriously dude go check out your posts that is all what they are) This holiday season wasn't really all that crowded to begin with anyways. I mean each console had their one really big exclusive (Halo ODST, Uncharted 2, New Super Mario Bro Wii) then we have the two epic third party games (Modern Warfare 2 and Assassi'ns Creed 2). about half the games that were scheduled for holiday '09, some of them highly anticipated (Bayonetta) and some of them already established (Bioshock 2) had to 'evacuate' the holiday season. It is probably due to economy, but that puts a squeeze on gamers, not to mention on publishers to find the right window in an even more busy 2010 schedule. and like i said in the original post, some of the games coming out next year have been in the making for a long time now and are highly anticipated (God of War 3, Alan Wake, Mass Effect 2, Final Fantasy 13, Star Craft 2, Gran Turismo 5) just to name a few.

don't know, but it is what i'm counting on it coming to West. the thing with handhelds is you don't know so much on third parties for quite a while until a few months before release. console/PC based games can be announced years ahead of release, and we know it is coming.
