2011 year of disappointments.

The only games I've bought that were released this year so far are Dead Space 2, okamiden, and Pokemon White. I've been pretty happy with them, so, for me personally, I would say this is a good year.

Only disappointment for me has been gears 3 being delayed :cry: other than that its been a slow year.

This is a terrible year for Nintendo fans.

well when 5 of the 7 games you listed are shooters............kinda set yourself up for dissapointment.

I'm not knocking shooters......but to expect 5 good ones to come out in such a short amount of time is asking a bit much.

Dead Space 2 was sadly a disappointing game for me this year...

Lol it really is. I've been playing so many games, I haven't given Whtie the attention it deserves. (I have 25 hours in it.) :(

Really? I thought it was great. I loved shooting out windows and having Necromorphs getting sucked into them.

Dead Space 2 was good. Trenched is probably the biggest pleasant surprise so far.

Everything else is either a huge disappointment or overrated.

I actually liked KZ3, not better than KZ2 but still good.

Well Mass Effect 2 came to the PS3, not owning a 360 until recently, it has been my highlight of the year so far.

Has anyone else noticed that there have been a lot of letdowns this year. I know every year has there letdowns, but its only half way through 2011 and there have already been tons of disappointments. Here's the games that i bought that were disappointments to me. Brink Duke Nukem Forever L.A Noire Dragon Age 2 Killzone 3 Socom 4 and Homefront. I know you guys probably won't have the same opinion as this ^ but to me, other than Portal 2, each game that i bought this year has been an utter disappointment. What's your opinion? WheresDaBeer

LA Noire is AAA. That's as fair as things can get. The rest are indeed letdowns, and i attribute it to two things:

1. 2011 is the year of gaming. Dissapointments come hand in hand with releases. The year with the most releases will have the most dissapoints. That's this year.

2. Rising standards in gaming in general. It becomes exceedingly difficult to live up to previous successes

However, many of the big guns this year aren't out yet. Skyrim, Dark Souls, Diablo 3 (i hope), Gears of War 3, Uncharted 3, Batman & Mass Effect 3 will determine if this year is a letdown. If at least half of those games get sub-AAA, i will call it a dissapointing year.

I love L.A. Noire, so I don't think it's a letdown. Homefront could have been better, but it wasn't a letdown. Plus, Dead Space 2 and Crysis 2 are awesome. So far, 2011 hasn't been a letdown for me.

...and you were surpised some of these games were bad or lackluster? I'll go down the list:

Duke Nukem Forever: Did ANYONE actually think this game would be good? If they did I question if they followed It's dev history at all.

L.A. Noire: I actually really enjoyed the game. It was flawed but refreshingly different from most games coming out lately, and many seem to have the same opinion. So seems any dislike is based more on personal preference than the game itself.

Dragon Age 2: Agreed, I don't think it was a terrible game in It's own right. But when you stack it against DA:O it just feels like a shell of It's former self.

Killzone 3: I haven't play KZ3 myself. But based on general opinion and review scores so again it seems based more on personal preference.

Socom 4: The Socom series has been floundering for awhile now. No one should of been expecting miracles from the game.

Homefront: I took one look at this games multiplayer and knew it was going to be a critical flop. I was an obvious Call of Duty clone, and a CoD clone will not beat CoD.

TL;DR version: Try not to expect the world from games you're looking forward to. Gamers in general are notorious for taking one little bit of information about a game and blowing it up to mythical proportions long before the game is ever released. An objective mind and only taking things for what they are will keep disappointment to a minimum quite often.

Infamous 2 is my only disappointment so far, It's still really good and addicting like the first, just some painful annoyances really hinder the experience. Just got the platinum today.

L.A. Noire I haven't played enough to make an opinion, but definitely seems interesting.

Portal 2 was awesome.

Duke Nukem was the opposite of a disappointment. I had very very low expectations and had it gifted to me so enjoyed it quite a bit.

Crysis 2 is apparantely disappointing, but I haven't played it yet, same with Killzone 3.

Little Big Planet 2 was awesome.

Hunted: The Demon's Forge (didn't play it) scored low, and I was hoping for that to turn out decent, might try it out, but apparantely it's no good. So that was disappointing.

That's about it though So from what I've played it's only Infamous 2 that was disappointing.

Good list, i agree on all of those.

Crysis 2 was a slight dissapointment but L.A. Noire made up for it.

I'd add Battlefield 3 (PC version) and (possibly) Rage to that list. Mass Effect 3 was pushed back to the end of first quarter next year, unfortunately, though the rest of these make up for it.

I agree on all of those, except:

Dragon age 2was great, only problem was the re-used maps and dungeons.

LA Noire started out good but after the vice-missions it started to go down real fast...

LA Noir will be one of the most highly revered games this year.
