Yes but you get to play them on a larger, cheaper screen, and you don't need to spend more than the blue book value of your car (well, my car) to do it. donalbaneIn a capitalist world being poor sucks.

And people still think that next gen consoles will only do 1080p?!?!?!?

Yep, because of the slow adoption to HDTV in general. Higher definition HDTV's aren't likely to take on for a while, I would think.
OT: I couldn't imagine playing at that insane rez :P
Cost of Entry for 720P gaming on a "big screen" in the living room: PS3 = $299. 40" 1080P TV = $600. Total: $899 Cost of Entry for 2160P gaming on a "big screen" in the living room Quad SLI PC = $2000 2160P TV = $50,000 Total: $52,000 Seems like a fair comparison.2Chalupas
How much would I care about others if i had that cash?
Yes, because no company plans to produce consumer-marketed TVs greater than 1080p for a long, long time. And people still think that next gen consoles will only do 1080p?!?!?!?
hd5870corei7
PC gamers don't really use resolutions greater than 1080p (1200p), anyhow. Only people with multi-monitor setups and gigantic 30"+ screens.
Only PC can use that....Its called having a Playstation 6 not in 2050 but in 2010i think i will wait for the price to drop a bit first :P but good step to the future :)

Meh. Even 2160p won't max out Crysis. I think that game goes up to 6400x4000. In any case, I'm happy gaming on my PC with 768p or 900p.

Sorry. My sarcasm detector is ZILCH.
Unless you have a screen of like 50 inches, its not really important. Plus 720p is enough to enjoy awesome games.Anything less is just SD....:

my jump from the PC to the PS3 was abit shocking at first (yes, i didn't have a PS2. shoot me now).
i've been gaming on 1080p since 2002 and yet i got my PS3 8 years later and even though the textures are high-res, most games didn't even have at least 8x AA or 720p. but hey, the games are where it's at. :)

i went from ps3 to pc and i miss my ps3
i'm fine with what i have, heck i'm fine with sd sometimes, i don't understand why people need super huge tv's with 2160 or 20000p to enjoy their games
[QUOTE="SakusEnvoy"]54% on higher rez than consoles? Aren't most consoles 720P? 720P = 1280 x 720. Calculating everything that is higher would result in 85% of all steam users on a higher resolution than consoles, of course not everyone games in those resolutions but the majority won't be satisfied playing under their native resolution.Nice, but 80% of Steam users game at resolutions below 1080p. its amazing, im gona get bashed for saying this, but whenever the 360 ps3 or Wii is mentioned, we talk about the games, when the PC is mentioned, all the hermits can talk about is overpriced specs and grapphics no1 even cares about, does the pc even hve any games for gods sake?

More exclusives than all the consoles combined... Yeah...

Sort of. Almost all TVs actually have a native resolution of 1366x768. Even if an individual game is using a lower internal resolution, the image will be upscaled. Technically speaking, console gamers are gaming at a native display resolution of 1366 x 768. So the number of Steam users operating at a higher display resolution would be about ~70%.Nice, but 80% of Steam users game at resolutions below 1080p. [link]

But yeah, clearly most PC gamers do use resolutions superior to consoles; on the other hand, Systems Wars has a habit of treating 1080p as if it's a PC gaming standard. In reality, we're probably a long time away from 1080p being the operating standard for PC gamers, much less 2160p.

PC has just received 2 AAAEs, of which one is already becoming a sport more than a game, and as said by lundy, the PC has more exclusives than all consoles COMBINED.
So yeah, you really made your logic shine with this post.
[QUOTE="SakusEnvoy"]And at least 85% game at a higher resolution than consoles (1280x720). Well, I addressed this above... but my point was just that we're a long time away from a 1080p standard, much less 2160p. I didn't really intend to imply anything for consoles.Nice, but 80% of Steam users game at resolutions below 1080p. [link]

Honestly, no matter what percentage of PC gamers are playing at higher display resolutions than console gamers, it's still a backtrack compared to last generation. Last gen all console games were designed for 640x480, and many systems (like the Gamecube) didn't even support component cables in their later models. Most people played games at the (not so) beautiful resolution of 480i.
Is there any doubt that last gen 100% of PC gamers played at resolutions above consoles? Today about ~70% of PC gamers do... the gap is actually decreasing.
