So, basically a Wii-bashing post in disguise? I could have said that in a harsher way, but you have good taste in bands.
But yeah, console-wise, Wii is on top and PS3 and 360 are fighting for 2nd place although that battle seems to have a fairly clear winner too.

Call it what you want. I guess what I said about its graphics and games available being sub-par can be taken as bashing, im not really a Wii fan, nor do I hate it. Thats just my opinion though . But my main intention with this post was to get across the point that I think the Wii is too different to its console counterparts to be judged in the same category.
Ferocious dinosaurs. The 360 and PS3 are competing for the same audience, while the Wii is trying to get everyone else. And it looks like a pretty sound strategy for the Wii so far. I don't know if it can match this pace for a few more years, but hey, people still line up to get Wiis.supercubedude64
I definitely agree with you there. They appeal to different audiences which is the point I am essentially trying to make. Hence they can not be compared as they are.
It the same gen. You can try and spin it anyway you like but the 360 and PS3 are competing with the Wii. HarlockJCThe Wii is like the the super athelete and the 360 and PS3 are the fat wheezy asmatic kids. That doesn't seem like a fair race, esp as the Wii now has fit to keep it in shape! :P
The Wii was considered to part of the next gen at the start of this gen when lems and cows were laughing at it and it still is. Just cos its gubbing your favourite console fanboys have to try and find some way to make the wii not count.
The amount of fighters depends on what battle you speak of.
There is one battle for overall sales. Wii is winning that fight hands down right now. And it will take along time before anyone can be viewed as battling back.
But there's a second battle. The battle for the best console. The one that gave its owners the best experience. The one that pushed gaming forward the most. And this one is still in the air. This battle is a real slug-fest.
To me, there can be two winners this gen. And based on Wii's delivery (or lack there of), I think there will be two winners when its said and done.
Wii for sales, PS3/360 for best console.
Sorry to burst your bubble but the wii has sold more than the 360 and ps3 combined.
p.s. Iam a ps3 and wii fan.

Well, not quite, but it's getting there.
The Wii has the best lineup so far this year. Plus, they are directly in competition with each other. Why do you think MS and Sony are planning strategies to capture the casual gamers?Zhengi
Seriously? Did you not see the game lineup for PS2? Has Sony not always tried to reach all audiences?
Take the Wii off that pedestal you have, it isn't that stong.
It doesn't help that when the Wii and PS3 came out, both Microsoft and Sony said that the Wii would be a great "companion system" to theirs.
Most people who aren't blinded by fanboyism, I would hope, would agree that the Wii is not in direct competition with the 360 and PS3.

The PS2 might have been aimed at the casual, but the PS3 wasn't. So I was basing my argument on this.
Sony has forgotten what made them successful the last two gens. They have catered too much to the hardcore gamer this gen and they have suffered for it. That is why they are reevaluating their strategy and figuring out to how market their $400 console.
Plus, I don't hold the Wii on a pedestal. I think it's a great little console that is underappreciated by too many people on here.

Sure, I guess the PS2 had quite the "casual" following, but they took a much different turn with their newer console.

If catering to the casuals means giving gamers a half-cooked, last gen powered console, I'm out. I'm glad Sony didn't do it.If you had a clue about Sony, you'd know they have always had software aimed at casuals. And they have had that since day 1 on PS3. There are some great PSN titles that are totally aimed at casuals.
Sony's aim was to hit every member of the family. And it does it well. The dad who's into HD and technology, done. The mom who likes puzzles and singing games, done. The little girl who likes more "casual aimed games. The teenage sone who's into military shooters, done. The whole family that enjoys watching movies on blu-ray, DVD, and through the media server. The parents who like to entertain their guests by having a slideshow and music (all PS3 generated) while they talk.
Again, if winning this gen means you need to have a cheap underperforming console like the Wii, I'll go with the losers.

I'm sure these "casuals" aren't the idiots that you take them for. They probably won't shell out bucketloads of money for the system with the shiniest graphic. PS2 proved this and the Wii is proving it again.

Meh, i really don't see why so many people buy it. I mean it's not THAT good. It is good but i don't think it deserves so much more sales than the ps3 or 360.angelkimne
There a number of great games you can only get on the Wii. Plus the Wiimote to me, seems the better controller.
Does anybody else feel this way, that the Playstation 3 and xbox 360 are the only competitors and the Wii only has..well itself to compete against? I also think the Wii has a missed leap into what we (maybe more so, I) now consider next-gen. Its graphics don't match up which is fine because you'd think it makes up for it with gameplay..but it doesn't because the games out for it minus a few are terrible. The biggest thing it has going for it right now is a plastic board people stand on to calculate there BMI and make them lean to the side and stand on one foot. I just don't see how you even compare this to the 360/PS3. Of course that may have been Nintendo's intention to be completely different which is fine but in all fairness I don't think anybody on this board can claim that the wii is better than the PS3/360 or vice versa as they are barely anything alike. Yet people still do. I miss a few years back when people where hyping for essentially a Next Gen Gamecube, I think that would have been awesome.Arch_Angel_21
The Wii is a good system, and it has much more going for it than just WiiFit. And yes, it is competing with the PS3 and 360. They are all home consoles used for playing games.
This year its between the PS3 and 360. I have grown such a hate for Nintendo, that no one can comprehend it. I owned the Super Nintendo, Nintendo 64 (StarFox64 is one of the greatest games ever made), and the Nintendo Gamecube. I didnt own anything else. But during my GC days on TV they would show games like Just Cause, Merceneries etc saying only for Xbox and PS2 only for Xbox and PS2. This really pissed me off.
This gen its ridiculous, i didnt buy the Nintendo system, after GC I bought PS2 followed by a PS3. ANd its the best decision I ever made. Wii owners dont know but they are missing out. Call of Duty 4 was unbelievable and Wii owners missed out, GTA4 was perfect and Wii owners missed out, now the game that was like GOTY RE4, sequel Resident Evil 5 is in development and since the Wii cant handle it, they are missing out. Screw Mario, I would rather be scaling a 200 foot collosus in God of War 2 rather than killing mushrooms, I would rather be telling my friends to cover my back and the others to take the front assault while i plant the bomb in COD4 rather then beat the luigi track in 1 min and 30 secs and compare it to my friends, I would rather be takin on hordes of zombies with HD visuals rather then stand on a freakin board to get rid of that extra fat.
The truth is Wii cant be a primary console, its either Wii and PS3 or Wii and 360. Because if your just a Wii owner, than you can tell yourself whatever you want, post here whatever justifications you want but the truth is, you just missed out on next gen for a stupid italian plumber killin mushrooms.
Well IMO the Wii is the best console and until RE5 comes out it is the only console worth my time.
MS comes out with nothing but garbage and Sony made a mistake by having way too high of a price for PS3.
I also consider anybody that does not at least value the Wii and it's great library to be a shallow gamer.
But people still like WaWa (PS3) and Dunkin Donuts (X360) coffee better.
Not too mention at WaWa and Dunkin Donuts, there's MORE then just coffee to drink and eat!

MS comes out with nothing (even though I dont own a 360 I'll still defend it)
Already out: Gears of War, Bioshock, Halo 3, Mass Effect, Ninja Gaiden 2, Lost Odyssey, COD4, GTA4, DMC4,
Coming: Gears of War 2, Bioshock 2, Halo Wars, Mass Effect 2, Resident Evil 5, Infinite Discovery, Unreal Tournament 3,
As for Sony the 40GB costs $399 as opposed to Wii's 289.99. Thats a 100 dollar difference for a Blu Ray Drive, free demos, videos and games every Thursday, beta invitations, GTA4, COD4, MGS4, (basically the selection of one of the greatest gaming library on any console). And as of latley, Dell has proposed $300 for 40GB, with 2 games and controller.
I do value the Wii for games like Metroid Prime 3, Brawl however, I dont value how Nintendo is holding it bak through inferior hardware therefore the develops cant make some serious games for it.

Nice naming a bunch of multiplats to defend the 360. I can name a bunch of games too, but someone already did that (see a couple of posts up).
And where I come from the Wii is $250 and the PS3 is $400(for the crappiest SKU), that's $400 dollors for a console that's been out for a year and a half, doesn't have backwards compatibility, and does not have a line up of big games (it might someday, but not now). So your basically buying a Blu-ray player, but that doesn't make it have good games now does it.

Putting off gamers?
The people who are buying Wii for Wii Sports and Wii Fit are not gamers. If they were then PS3 wouldn't have sold over 10 million and 360 wouldn't have sold over 19 million.
The Wii, PS3, and 360 are all in competition. However the only systems in direct competition are PS3, 360 while Wii is in indirect competition with them.

Whether or not any of us consider the Wii to be next gen or not, the bottom line is that the consumers are buying it... en masse.
If the wii were in 2nd or last place then I gurantee all this "The wii is not competition" garbage wouldnt even be brought up.
Just get over it and accept that the wii is kicking the crap out of the 360 and ps3 yearly and monthly. And If you totally disreguard the wii then your just in denial and a narrow minded fanboy.

I agree with you. I was pretty much in the same boat where gaming just wasn't the same anymore due to obligations to family, work, and other interests. Gaming was getting a bit dull for me and the Wii has definitely brought back some of the older gamers who lost interest.
Plus, the main factor for the Wii's popularity is the new ways to play. This gives rise to new gameplay and makes gaming interesting once more.

Probably because most development studios don't care about the Wii when it comes to non-casual video games.Probably because no one outside of the rather small hardcore gaming niche puts that much stock in non-casual video games. Most people would prefer some variety to their gaming experiences, which would require systems to deliver more than just interactive action movies all the time.

Which is why Halo 3, GTA 4, MGS4, etc. are launch events that make the news (Halo 3 and GTA 4 were covered by all major news station in Chicago), and have even made movie studios question motion picture release dates... :roll:Please Log In to post.
