343i Comfirm NO annual Halo games.

So I opened Waypoint and watched the most recent episode of This Spartan Life - the interview guests were Frank O'Connor and bs angel from 343.

The interviews were mostly both of them talking about how awesome it was to work for 343 - but then...

TSL: Frank, what can you tell us about the future of Halo at 343 Industries?

Frank O'Connor: Well, there's, I mean, right now we're really just concentrating on the sustain for Halo: Reach. A lot of people are planning on playing Halo: Reach for a significant amount of time, and we, in cooperation with Bungie, are planning on supporting that for a significant amount of time. So nobody has to worry about anything like us, you know, churning out Reach sequels every year; nobody has to worry about Reach servers going away. That's really our job; that's what we've been working on, and that's what we're going to be working on. And obviously, the books, the comics...

Personally, no. Knowing 343 and how much passion they have for Halo and its amazing lore but there were idiots who know nothing about 343 saying that they would church out games annualy.

He did say sequel though. There is still the chance of a Halo: CE remake coming out this year.

I don't think we will see a true Halo Sequel until at least 2012, probably 2013. We most likely however, will see spin offs occasionally, (For example Halo wars, ODST expansion etc.)

Good to know, i dont want Halo to turn like CoD and EA series. 2 years is the least devtime i think a game needs to turn out good.

Agreed, 343 like i said are very passionate about the Halo series and its canon and they have the Frankie O'Connor so screwups are highly unlikely.

And after reading Halo Cryptum...GAWD...

I want Halo 4.

I'd rather see a story revolved around the Precursors or Foreruners before i see Halo 4. The Halo universe is so expansive so it would be a shame to waste all that.

So when did they have 2 exclusives for an entire year? This year they had more exclusives than the PS3.

I never really liked Master Chief or Cortana as characters. It would be nice to approach the Halo universe from a different angle.

Yes we did get 4 Halo's from 07 to 10 but it wasn't yearly. Halo 3 came out 2007 ODST and Wars came out 2009 Reach came out 2010 Funconsole

I'm really, really hoping for a game that places you in the boots of a regular soldiers, with a very dark feel (ODST touched on this to good effect), tactical emphasis, and squad mechanics, all set sometime before Halo 3. If not that, an all-out-action title featuring a combined human and Elite invasion of the Prophet and/or Brute homeworlds. This latter scenario has a chance to truly portray a massive scale invasion, something Reach really dropped the ball on.

I had considered responding with a long winded rant to the "ODST is a 60 dollar Halo 3 mod" portion, but I would rather just keep it short and state that 90% of games today run off a previously developed engine and successors within studios LOVE reusing assets. I bet you money even your favorite game runs off the engine of a previous title and even perhaps even reuses assets from devs previous titles. ODST has a 6-8 hour single player campaign, a new co-op mp mode, and the existing Halo 3 MP including ALL the map packs released. How is that really any different from the majority of "new" games now adays? Gears of War 2's campaign is roughly the same length, added a new co-op mode as well, and stuck with the same multiplayer from the previous game (granted with some new maps, whilst also including 5 maps from the first game) with the addition of an extra player per team. The only difference between the two is that one released with more NEW mp maps than the other... And yes I agree with you about meaning no annual main cannon... I believe i said that in my first post in this thread... And yes I agree that he meant no annual Halo: reach sequels as I clearly stated that in my first post. Still doesn't remove the possibility of MS releasing annual Halo games, whatever the cannon.

He Never Said Anything about Non-Reach Sequeled Halos coming out....that is pretty much anything >.>. Though I Admire on what this person said, he is still under the control of ole master Microsoft. Microsoft can do anything....and I know, if Halo had yearly releases...it will sell like hotcakes.

It's good to know that they are still putting their focus onto reach and that they will continue to support the game. there are many ways that they can update the game and support it.
