360: 2 years and only 2 console sellers

Gears of War (around4.8 million) and Halo 3 (around 6 million copies).

No other 360 games have even sold 2.3 million copies. In comparison the Wii has 3 console sellers (Zelda, Mario Party 8 and Super Mario Galaxy). The PS3 actually has none (both Motorsotrm and R:FOM have got much of their sales from being bundled and after them, there is no game that has even sold a million.

Up ahead for the 360 for its 3rd year, it has GTA4 (which isn't exclusive) any maybe Gears of War 2 (if it comes in 2008) and i really don't see any other game having a real sales impact for the 360. How is MS going to counter Brawl, Mario Kart, Wii Fit MGS, GTand FF? I expect the PS3 to outsell the 360 by around 2:1 and eventually overtake it in 2009 with the Wii already way to far ahead.

Before Halo 3, the 360 was selling terribly for most of 2007 and really this was not pointed out because the PS3 was doing even worse. MS better hope that GTA doesn't get delayed again and allow the PS3 userbase to get bigger.

So, name the the 360 games out next year which will be console sellers.

Why did you list Mario Party 8? Because it sold well? Well then the 360 has 29 games with over a million sales.

The fact that you define a system seller as something which sells more than 2.3 million is not only artificial, it shows you've selected that number to frame a situation which makes the Wii look better.

Bottom line, there is little to suggest high software sales mean systems are being sold. We can only say it represents high software sales, as for example, it might be that 80% of the people who bought SMG already had a Wii. Not much of a system seller then.

But anyway, excluding Wii Sports, which is bundled with the Wii, the 360 has probably more games selling in excess of a million than the Wii (admittedly some of those are also on PC).

The situation isn't clear cut.

Because at that point, it looks like the Wii is moving more software. I picked up on this right away too.

Call of Duty 4 will have a chance to be a multiplatform console seller and maybe enough people will buy anything with the word Halo on it without even knowing what kind of game it is .... (Halo Wars)

In PAL regions we had all out 60GB PS3s bundled with resistance and motorstorm after it was selling poorly.

ahh i see but here in NA theres tons of bundles with gears and no resistance. but i still would liek to see proff that most of resistance sales are from these bundles you speak of.

Forza sales were disappointing, that is why it has been bundled (same with Marvel). Viva Pinata did not sell that well and its sequal has had horrible sales.Nintendo_Man

Shows us a link to these sales, it looks like your using VG charts, smg has 2.30 listed and you decided to use that as your increment.

3 million should be regarded as the magic mark for a system seller , that is a fair number imo. It is hard to reach and impressive , but still attainable for a good number of games out there.

3 million should be regarded as the magic mark for a system seller , that is a fair number imo. It is hard to reach and impressive , but still attainable for a good number of games out there.

That's the crazy thing about it. It only takes 1 sell to actually make a game a system seller. Gundam in Japan was a "system seller".

Mario Party was a console seller, it didn't sell well over 3 million for no reason. The Wii has much better software sales at the same time as the 360. I got enough Wii games plus i expect to buy another 3 by the end of January, plenty of great stuff available.Nintendo_Man

Just to let you know,most people don't buy the Wii for SMG or SSBB, they buy it for Wii Sports. 1vgfan

Wii sales jumped over 50% world wide (even with shortages) after SMG came out so that suggests otherwise. I did not include Wii Sports since it is bundled everywhere except Japan.

Because the 3rd best selling game being Oblivion has sold a bit under that.

The X360 pretty much has the best '08 lineup with Banjo, NG2, LO, Gearsand Too Human. All of them except Gears will especially be big hits because they are all either very successful franchises already (Banjo, NG2) or new Ips made by very successful developers (LO, Too Human).

I will say though that the past 12 months,when it comes to exclusive, has beenbetter for the Wii because it''s one of those rare years where all 3 of nintendos big hitters came.

Regardless, when it comes to sales the Wii is going to win this gen. However, defining asystem seller as a game with over 2.3 million sales doesn't really make much sense except to prove you're bias.:?
