this is what SW is coming to? i fear for the future ladies and gents
and its expensive, with an E, not expansive
Does "built Ford tough" mean anything to you, TC? :PLab392
Touche :)
does ''Like a Rock'' ring any bells?
Did you notice how the consoles look like the cars ? The PS3 is the most expansive (well the less expansive because you don't pay for online) and is japanese like the Toyota brand. PS3 and Toyota is a great success, great quality that last for long and never ever dissapoint you. 360 is like Ford and GM: cheaper cost, but breaks all the time and none of their products are in the 10 best car of the year anymore.cramoisi

Toyota cars are some of the most reliable cars in the world. Check the Toyota Hilux for an example.
This is a poor attempt at discerning the 360's commercial success through making a parallel with the car industry.
Fail.

I suppose second place is fine with MS as with the US automobile industry.

Who said MS was in second place?
The millions and million who are buying the Wii. Right now it is a fight of second place for MS and Sony.

And how many people actually play them on a regular basis? Because by your logic, the PC has already won.
Not sure, but I seen the Wii games start to sell on the 10 ten of the NPD. But in the war between the Wii, 360, and PS3. It is a fight for second place in hardware sales.

Agreed,Japanese cars put the Americans and Germans to shame in terms of reliability.

Certainly american cars, but german? Why do you think they always make fun of german car companies on top gear by pointing out how "ze seat belts are made with precision and efficiency!!!"

I doubt even Ford and GM dare produce a product that has a 16% failure rate.
[QUOTE="Ninja-Vox"]Fords are amongst the most reliable cars on earth right now. :|-D3MO-I rly hope that was sarcasm....
If you're going to tell me Ford's cars are unreliable, i can only assume you know nothing about cars. Unless you're talking about 1980s Ford sedans; but hell, name a reliable car from that decade made by any company.
They recently beat Nissan and are on par with Toyota in reliability. Google it! 41/44 Fords were recommended to the public, and Ford and Honda, as of today, were ranked the safest auto manufacturers in America with the most 5 star crashes in their vehicles. Google that too!

I don't know man...a lot of my friends have had fords and hate them and they say the cars are solid until they start breaking down...after that its pretty much useless to keep one....especially the Mustang... :P....I've never had a problem w/ my Mazda which I've had for 8 years...did have to change the fuel pump once...but that was it.I rly hope that was sarcasm....[QUOTE="-D3MO-"][QUOTE="Ninja-Vox"]Fords are amongst the most reliable cars on earth right now. :|Ninja-Vox

This is one of those things where I (maybe foolishly) rely on anecdotal evidence.
All these magazines and Consumer Report guides are owned by American companies. It wouldn't surprise me in the least if American car manufacturers slip these companies side money to boost their products' ratings.
I've driven American cars at the local Hertz, Avis, etc... I would never say unreliable but they are noisy, feel cheaply made, in essence, they feel like toys more than real vehicles.
I've only purchased Japanese and German cars now for the past two decades. (With a careful eye to ensure that even though they are Japanese/German brands, that the model itself isn't built in an American plant)
360 is like Ford and GM: cheaper cost, but breaks all the time and none of their products are in the 10 best car of the year anymore.cramoisiThe Ford Mustang GT is on the Car & Driver Top Ten for 2005 and 2006, and the Fusion is on the list for 2006. The Chevrolet Corvette is on the list for 2006, 2007, and 2008, and the Malibu is on the list for 2008. Meanwhile, the Cadillac CTS is Motor Trend's Car of the Year.
Would it have killed you to do some research before posting?

Car&Driver, Motor Trend. Those wouldn't happen to be American publications would they?
Can't trust a word they say.
Especially if they are touting the Malibu as a Top 10 vehicle. I mean, seriously, has anyone ever really driven a Malibu? I'd actually consider biking to work instead.

Bottom of the range Fords are indeed put together poorly, as everything is made of plastic and is generally clip-on as opposed to screwed or bolted down. That's what you get for your money though; you are buying the cheapest possible option.
In terms of reliability however, buying a brand new Fiesta, Focus, Mondeo or other Ford staple car will very, very rarely turn out to be a bad investment for you. Stuff like the mustang isn't a good thing to discuss in terms of reliability, as it isn't an epic mass production car, and like all performance cars, is obviously more likely to break down as it isn't meant for the roads. You can buy a brand new TVR tuscan for crazy amounts of money, and they're the least reliable cars imaginable. Even Clarkson's Murcielago broke down after two months on british roads, and Ferrari dealers advise you not to take them on motorways.
In terms of simple, every-day cars - the ones which companies rely on to make money - Ford is incredibly reliable.

Please dont play the "bias" card. It's just illogical. If you recommend to all of your readers that a certain car is super reliable, they then buy it and find that it fails horribly, they stop buying your magazine. Your company fails. Simple.
This year's model is entirely new. Have you driven it yet, before making your snap judgment?Car&Driver, Motor Trend. Those wouldn't happen to be American publications would they?

Logic doesn't compute here.
Most readers don't get their car recommendations from a magazine. They read about new cars, they see a couple of reviews, you could sport a Top 10 with bottom line American cars and people would still buy the magazine because they are car enthusiasts.

the germans lost ww2 partly because their tanks were unreliable and constant maintenance would cripple their combat force.
the Tiger2 for example, was a 70ton tank and kept breaking down because the engine couldnt handle the weight.
I'm just saying, ww2 is not the best example to give in an argument about german engineering reliability.

I actually have. It is NOT a top 10 vehicle. Not even in its price range.

They're not buying those cars based on those recommendations. So why would they care if they're actually reliable or not?
Wouldn't impact magazine sales one bit.

If i bought a videogame magazine, and said magazine had a top 10 list of awful games which it claimed were actually great games, i would cease purchasing said magazine.
Common sense.

And the flip side is, the magazine might not care if the video game companies were slipping them money on the side to hawk their products. Or conversely, if the car manufacturers were slipping them money to in essence, advertise their vehicles.
It's a business whether we're talking about cars, games, or magazines. Hard to say no to money.

Trust me,look at any league table on car reliability and the Japanese smoke the competition, and that includes ze Germans.I'm not saying German cars are unreliable,I have VW and its a great car,but the Japanese are better.

Wow, PS3 is expensive and Toyota is also expensive? Since when? I mean, compared to a Ferrari or a Jaguar, Toyota prices are nothing.

PC isn't a console. A PC from 7 years ago can compete today with a new everything inside, but it's still technically that PCPlease Log In to post.
