hey guys, posted this in another thread, but i thought more people should know this for when NXE comes one Nov. 19. Right now on netflix there are about 12,000 movies and tv shows available for streaming in 480p (DVD quality) and another 3-400 Blu-ray movies (downscaled to 720p). Movies and TV shows range from new movies to old school greats like the original Hulk TV show lol. Thoughts???.........

PS right now i stream them thru windows media center to my 360 for free lol, but with NXE, it will be directly on the 360

You can show HD movies through Netflix, not Blu-Ray movies, as Blu-Ray is a format, not a quality of the film.

And Blu-Ray still has a fairly big quality advantage over Netflix and any other DL movie source right now.

HD-movie has changed to blu-ray movies now that HDDVD is dead.

Makes sense.

You can't "Download" a Blu-ray movie, you can download a Hi-def movie... Buy Blu-Ray is just a disc format. Streaming HD movies is also a royal pain.

Then perhaps you should change the title of the thread because matter of fact is, 360 can not play Blu-Ray movies as you so state in your title.

I'm a HUGE movie buff. When the day comes where I can d/l a HD movie online that has the SAME quality as a Blu-Ray movie, and at a resonable speed, I will be impressed.

But still you can rent 720p movies on Live and PSN right now. Netflix will just make the selection enormous for 360 owners.

Misleading title.

Plus, no where in those screens did it ever say blu-ray.

It is possible to stream HD movies, but that seems like a pain and a half to me.

And it is true that those movies do come on blu-ray, but blu-ray is a disc format, not a movie type.

There isn't much between HD-DVD and Blu-Ray. There is a big difference between HD-DVD or Blu-Ray and downloaded HD programs though.

^^This. It's like how the movies you watch through Netflix aren't DVD's they are WMV's or whatever format they are in since it's digital data not a disk. Blu-Ray is the name of the disk type. They're Hhigh Definition MP4's probably. Not that that's a bad thing, it's awesome that 360 can get some newer movies in HD since HD-DVD died.

Because PC have blu ray drives.

Anyway, you're just downloading HD content...not really a format.

Blu-Ray rips are no where near the same as a Blu-Ray. Much worse quality.

It's a nice feature, but 720P s 1080P. If you're on a 720P TV, this is great for you guys, but for 1080P it's a huge letdown.

I just want my 360 to upscale DVDs like the PS3 does, I hate bringing both to parties >_>

Its a good alternative if you want to catch some movies but don't want to spend $25 on a disc or wait for netflix to carry Iron Man Blu Ray.

True the quality takes a dip, so I recommend it for movies you're curious about and don't really care about the maximum picture and sound.
