not really most videophiles still agree that hdmi just doesn't offer super amounts of advantage over component till you get into hdmi 1.3 and audio codecs, I personally use optical audio as my chosen standard its cables are thin, light and it doesn't give me any problems.

I am really wondering if developers will take advantage of True DD sound.

me too or the DTS HD of which i favor, For me 5.1 dolby diglity just isn't as good as 5.1 DTS I love that sound format yet hardly any movies use it, and hardly any theaters whenever a movie uses it i make sure to watch it.

Sadly I don't know exactly if optical audio supports True DD or DTS HD....If games and movies support both i might have to upgrade my insignia receiver and 6.1speaker setup.

yep did the research DTS HD, and True dolby only work over hdmi 1.3 or hdmi 1.2 if your receiver can decode it from lossless.

On my 42" Bravia, I find my 360 looks better in 720P just because thats the native resolution the 360 does everything in no matter what output you have it set to.  it looks fuzzy in 1080p because it is just upscaling the 720p image.

It doesn't matter. You're reaching if you think you can see a difference. Above 1080p res, like maybe next gen, then we're talking. Digital will have to be standard for all consoles if they go that direction.

some tv's do allow 1080p thru component, some don't. VGA will definitely run 1080p analog....and I don't know what "true" 1080p is, nor do I know what "false" 1080p would be.

Ok Tv not letting you do 1080p over component is fact, But true 1080P? there is no difference from the 1080p shown over component then that of the hdmi, all forms of 1080p can be shown over component the only differences between the 2 is digital signal vs analog, and cable length.

This is mostly correct.  The reason you dont see 1080p over component is becuase content providers dont want to provide unencrypted content at 1080p resolutions.  So they provide 1080p content over hdmi which allows them to use HDCP.

Good Job! But you do realize that Blu-Ray from what I understand doesn't allow you to watch 1080p signals thru component.

I edited my above post but ill just paste it here...

P.S: let alone the FACT DIGITAL has been around for a long time, I want you to give me proof that digital hdmi..ect is better the component in every single way....

Digital was created to give you a lossless signal so no conversion had to take place, as well digital allows for a longer cable lenght with higher speed data rates, This is why it was created, At the 1-3 meter length which is long enough for most any one, thats 9 FEET PEOPLE, at the most after that the signal degrades.

This is why Digital signal carrying cables were invented....oh and to allow hollywood to control your content, Component is a very robust cable and input output protocol it can handle most every thing visually hdmi can, the only reason hollywood hates it? cause they cannot use it to block what you watch, record...ect

Thats in reply to your reply to my first post to you.

Now here is my reply to this post....

Edit: good job on editing your post to what you understand, i will remove my sarcastic comment.

do you know that DVI supports HDCP as well? or ICT flags? do you know that ITs only HDMI 1.3 that supports HDCP or ICT?

Do you know that no blu ray movie, or hd dvd movie out right now supports hdcp or ict?

DO you know all most 80% of of movie studios support HDCP and the ICT protocol but will not force people that run said movies over component to downgrade the picture from 1080p to a lower resolution?

Do you know that no matter what happens in the future, all movies released from now till the time HDCP and ICT are implimented will play fine, that the ICT and HDCP tags are built into the disks them selves?

the HDCP protocol means nothing since it will be breached easily just like all the protection schemes in dvd.

edit 2: im off to bed.

Blah Blah Blah.  Like I said, try finding a Blu Ray movie that will output at 1080p on a non HDCP compliant device.  I know about this from experience becuase I own a Dell 2405FPW (supports 1080p resolution, not HDCP compliant).

From a pure technical standpoint component cables can output a 1080p image just fine, but of course you have that HDCP BS. Oh well.

I've found the gap in quality between HDMI/DVI and component to be negligable, with the main difference being a slight loss of brightness over component.  The only real issue is whether your TV will accept 1080p over component, which most don't.

LINK!? TV's Don't support 1080p thru component, name one TV that has this feature. Show me some credible proof or get lost, stop trolling. Plus 1080p is supported by component, but Finding a TV that supports 1080p thru component is the real adventure.familyguyvs360
Samsung HL-S5687W.  56", 1080p DLP, 2 component inputs that support 1080p.  Oh, and in my living room, where it's been taking 1080p over component for 6 months now.  I just traded up my 360 for an Elite and redid the PS3 with HDMI while I was back there, so now it's all on HDMI - I can't see a difference in games, but HD DVD and Blu-ray movies look smoother, thanks to removing the ridiculous 1080i-over-component restriction.

I suggest you learn a little about home video before you try to discuss it again.  Finding this TV wasn't exactly an adventure - Best Buy, Fry's, and HH Gregg all stock it, and it's one of the most popular TVs on AVS Forum.

In terms of gaming I don't think we will ever get the full experience that HDMI has to offer.  Maybe next gen.
