You don't have to reach your thumbs at all when playing FPS on the PS3 controller, you must be joking or have the hands of a 3 year old. The shape of the PS3 controller is actually made so when you're holding it, your thumbs are already where the analog sticks are so you don't have to reach. Try picking one up before you criticize it.
The 360 controller actually deserves the most criticism... it's a wierd shape, has small analog sticks that don't push down for the analog stick button very well, has small "pebble-like" buttons in general, has a worse D-pad than the original NES, has oversized triggers, eats up batteries like they're thanksgiving dinner, and isn't wireless standard.
It's funny that the only complaints I ever hear about the PS3 is the analog sticks which are COMPLETELY FINE. I play hours and hours of COD4 on my PS3 and I don't see what the complaining is about. It's really pretty sad.
