I usually dont go on VGchartz but i was at work today and got bored so i thought id go on it, and man i really noticed something intresting.. The 360 has sold 16 million units worldwide whereas the 3has sold 8.8 million units worldwide (Might as well say they sold 9 million units) The 360 no longer has the 2:1 lead they had over the PS3 a few months back and then i looked even further and WOW, the 360 has only sold 500K units in Japan?!?! I couldnt believe my eyes! I mean sure i see people post topics on here about how the 360 is failing in Japan but man i didnt know they where doing THAT BAD! LOL i mean wow, the 360 has been out for a year in Japan or longer and its only sold 500,000 units.. thats terrible

I mean right now the PS3 is trailing the 360, the PS3 is at 9 million units worldwide whereas the 360 is at 16 million units worldwide, the PS3 isnt that far behind at all.. Its really starting to come back and haunt MS that the 360 is failing so hard in Japan, just imagine how good of a lead the 360 would have if it sold well in Japan also. I mean my God, if the 360 is only moving 5,000 units a month in Japan you might as well pretend the 360 doesnt even exist in Japan.

I agree with you, no matter how 360 fans try to spin it the fact is if 360 had done better in Japan they would have been in a better position now.

Why?! You actually think its going to get better for MS in Japan?! The fact remains is the reason the Wii is so ahead of the 360 and PS3 is because of Worldwide sales and that includes MS.. Lets pretend that the Wii was selling just as bad as the 360 in Japan and the same pace it is now in Europe/USA i gurantee the Wii would still be behind the 360 but no, its all about worldwide sales.. Just imagine if the 360 was doing just as good in Japan as they are in Europe and USA, this Console race would be over because no way the PS3 could catch up..

if the Wii can catch up to the 360 in one years time with no problem then the PS3 can also, the PS3 is just trailing the 360 by 6 million units.. True thats a lot of units, but the way the Wii has overtook the 360 shows that the 360 is not unstopable like a lot of people think

These world wide numbers for the PS3 are kinda a way o measure what's going to happen when the PS3 is out for a full year world wide. This will be sometime in March and by then the numbers could very well be close to 11 million sold consoles.

M$ should pull the plug in Japan. Mistwalker and Sakaguchi will go down the drain along with the 360 in Japan. :)

Well the fact that the PS3 is now outselling the 360 in europe and not selling at all in Japan leaves the 360 with NA, and even then PS3 will still keep pace here in NA, all im saying is the 360 can be weakened. They arent out of the woods yet so to speak

X360 owners should care. If you want variety in games you need significant marketshare in all regions.

They should just discontinue all current 360 sku's in japan and release one called, super "xrobot-box 360 taisen!" and bundle it with a random robot game.

I didn't realize that. That's horrible for X360 fans, I guess it looks like X360 is going to end up like the original Xbox a shooter console only.

MS needs to wake up about Japan. Their entire xbox brand is destined to fail because in Japanese the symbol "X" has a very negative conotation. MS is stupid for not even understanding this fundamental part of Japanese culture. It would be like a Japanese company marketing a product in the US called the Satan Machine. See for yourself.

X, Batsu = Bad, wrong answer.

Japan and Europe are crutial markets that microsoft seems not to care about, BIG mistake if they want to become the top dogs in the gaming industry. I've predicted this a while back, before any of the consoles came out, that the 360 would not get good sales anywhere besides here, in north america -- seems to be right mostly.

True its not for some, but I do play online. For $399 I got built in wi-fi and ability to play HD movies. Had I gotten the same setup on 360 I'd have spent a lot more than $399. Options are nice, but they come with a premium price tag too.

Every time I see this argument, I must point this out.....

The average 360 owner has had 12 more months to buy those games, of course they will have a higher attach ratio.

Also, when you're talking about numbers as low as the 360's, you know no one's going to brag about that fact.

The attach ratio argument is as foolish as saying that the PSP is "stealing" market-share from the DS.

Lets face it, the X360 is dead in Japan. We have known this for almost 2 years. If the X360 can maintain its lead in the U.S. and do well in Europe, it'll still get the best games. It just won't get many Japanese games (developed specifically for the Japanese market.... excluding Capcom and some others etc.)

In the end, Japan matters if you want to see lots of Japanese games on the console. If you don't, then don't worry, Western developers don't care much for Japan since their games sell like crap there anyway.

Highest attach ration isn't saying much when you've barely sold anything. You want 10 consoles sold and an attach rate of 10? Or do you want a million consoles sold with an attach rate of one?

Your missing the point though. Every-time a Japanese person sees "X" they are going to associate that with Batsu. Its like if an American saw A yield symbol on a box. In semiotics its a signifier, and an important one at that. Imagine if Japanese people just ignored the X symbol that means "bad" "wrong decision". I dont know about you, but if a box had "bad choice" written on it, I'd probably go with another brand.

The xbox 360 is always going to have 12 more months, for people to buy those games all the way to the end of this generation, thats not going to change anytime soon. The PS3 and Wii have been out a whole year now, its not like people haven't had enough time to buy games.

I'm not trying to say they have the highest sales, but they have the highest attach ratio so they are atleast doing something right.

You have a point there, but I dont own any PS2 games so B/C was not a selling point. The lack of B/C gave the PS3 a lower price as an option.

You have a point there, but I dont own any PS2 games so B/C was not a selling point. The lack of B/C gave the PS3 a lower price as an option.Darthmatt

i didnt own the original xbox, but i want b/c because now i can look for games like panzer dragoon orta or dead or alive that i never got to play before

More Batsu news

Even has the nickname "Batsu Bako" (badbox)

i do agree with one thing though xbox is a really crappy name, english is not my main language and i have a hard time pronouncing it, couldnt they go with something easy on the tongue like.... spectre? or mist?

still i find it dificult to believe that one letter can cause all that damage

Your missing the point though. Every-time a Japanese person sees "X" they are going to associate that with Batsu. Its like if an American saw A yield symbol on a box. In semiotics its a signifier, and an important one at that. Imagine if Japanese people just ignored the X symbol that means "bad" "wrong decision". I dont know about you, but if a box had bad choice written on it, I'd probably go with another brand.

but then how do you explain the original xbox´s strong sales in japan during the first few months?

Where do you think the Japanese nick name "batsu bako" came from? It emerged durring the original Xbox era.

At least MS was paying attention when they re-designed the monster to fit in smaller hands.

darth matt edit your post you have too many quotes, you may get moderated,

well for me BC is very important, i still play PS1 games i never played before on my PS2, also i prefer to have one console that playss everything instead of being forced to own a PS1 for PS1 games, a PS2 for PS2 games a PS3 for PS3 games, a PS4 for PS4 games etc.

Every time I see the numbers, I'm just shocked at what the DS is able to do. 7 million in one year, and 21 million in 3 years. That's insane. It took the PS2 since March 2000 to sell what the DS has sold in just 3 years.

Those 360 numbers are actually a little lower than I expect. I was thinking the 360 might be at 600k to 650k at this point. It will likely still get 1 million and pass the original Xbox, but it's just pathetic how little interest there is in Japan for that console.
