360 is claimed to have the best games, online service, and community, yet it's not beating the Wii and the sales are on par with a system that is $200 more. If this gen is all about online and great games, 360 should be mopping the floor with the competition, right? Call me crazy, but shouldn't a 360 fan be pondering the same question? How in the world a great system like 360 is not selling? It has everything you want in a console, gamers should be buying this console like it was the PS2. We have not seen the potential of the Wii nor PS3, and the 360 is shiny bright right now. How can 360 win when their best is not good enough?Socrates88
matter of game taste

True point actually. At the moment, the 360 does have a considerable edge on the PS3 & Wii.... but i think there are some things that it boils down to:
Fanbase (PS brand is 100 million... thats 97 million users holding back)
Price and fun (Wii has both of these things)
Because it's $150 more and doesn't have a nifty motion controller? Both those things make casuals flock to the Wii. And I think Microsoft will settle for simply beating Sony this gen, because going up against Nintendo seems to be hopeless.
Actually, I can answer you question with another question; Why isn't the PSP winning the handheld war? It has better graphics, games (supposedly), it has multimedia functions, online capabilities, etc. and it's STILL losing. Why is that?

I'm not knowledgeable on the handheld ordeal. I do know consoles, and with history price never matter when it comes to the best console. Let's not forget you only $50 more expensive than the Wii.
The majority of peopledon't actually play on Xbox Live.

Same reason the PS3 isn't selling, only to a lesser extreme. Most people are hardly any less turned-off by a $400 console than they are by a $600 one, especially when most of the their fondest memories in gaming came from a console that launched at $300.

Let me fill you in then. The PSP is getting its proverbial ass handed to it by the DS. Why? Because the competitor is cheaper and has casual appeal. Same thing with the Wii. And you damn well know that the Core version of the 360 has been practically phased out, and hardly any stores carry them any more. The Premium is the one you use to make price comparisons, because it by far makes up the majority of 360 purchases. Also, sales alone dont determine how good something is.

Honestly, no, I don't think that's the case, otherwise the Wii wouldn't be selling either. I think what's holding both MS and Sony back this gen are their prices.

No, it's pretty much only due to the price.

Don't let Microsoft's advertising get to you, it is a neat development sure but online videogamesare far from being new.

No. Cheap. innovative, and popular things (not necisarrily all three) are what attract casuals

For sure.
If the 360 and the PS3 were around the $300 mark, I and many with me would be buying them in a heartbeat.
(well, I would wait for the PS3 to get more games that appeal to me)
It's not that I can't afford one right now, for me it's just too much money to spend on a console.

With such an enormous price gap between the Wii and its competition, I'd say yes. That could very well change, of course, once the PS3 and 360 come down some.
So could you determine at what price range will people overlook and start comparing games and the functionality of the consoles?

I guess it's too expensive for some but nonetheless it has games that you don't want to miss out this gen.

Well I could, but I'd just be pulling numbers out of my ass. Who knows what magic number everyone's waiting on before they give 360 and PS3 more than a passing glance.

that is a lot.
It's all based off of how the Wii is bringing in something new and is relatively cheap.
It's hardware will eventually hurt it to a decent extent since it is pretty weak, but it will continue to sell pretty well.

If this is your attempt to prove that you own a 360 from your other thread, then a gamertag with 0 points and only two games REALLY doesn't help your cause.
i take it you didnt read uh? i said ALT ACCOUNTS FOR THE WIN. meaning this is not my main gamertag. my main gamertag i only give out to friends, and since your not one of them you will never know what it is. as for trying to prove i own a 360, i guess when i get home il just take a nice pic of my set up for you. wil that be enough for you?in fact their will bea MY SET UP thread later on this evening around 7pm central taht is when ill be home from work .

As of late 2006, it was 4 million. There is no way of the active login and evenif you want to try and guess the rate of that, it is over 1.5 million still.
you said check alf 13 (with a space) it didnt exist. plus looking at this you only have 3 stars meaning you just got your 360 or you made a alt. account from some1 you know that owns a 360 and has never played any games. yea good job trying to cover up that you are a fanboy and disrupting this thread. wow how low can you go seriously. making big deal out of nothing.

So is online service important or not? because 1.5 millions is not a lot.
