Like it or not you have to admit that the 360 saved gaming. Just think about it for a second, lets say if the only 2 consoles out on the market was Wii and PS3, just imagine how downhill the gaming industry would go! I mean what a disaster, either choose between a Console with "cutesy" kid games with a motion sensing controller with no online multiplayer heavy games such as the Wii, or a overpriced console that has technology noone needs nor wants with hardly any games to play such as the PS3. Then you have the 360, a console with amazing online, amazing game line up, a console that churns out AA-AAA games almost on a monthly basis! Not to mention acheievment points and Xbox live arcade with all the greatest old school hits!!

I mean look at what Microsoft is acheiving with the 360. THey are giving us New IPs left and right and most of them are AA-AAA. Games such as Halo franchise, Gears,Mass Effect, Bioshock,Crackdown,Lost Planet, Skate, Etc!! If it wasnt for the 360 we would either be playing rehashed 20 year old mario and zelda games or 10 year old rehashed Final fantasy, MGS and Ratchet and clank games, while those games are great, MS is giving us NEW and Fresh stuff!

Sure Microsoft has its faults as does the 360 but you have to admit that Gaming would be a disaster without the 360!! The way I see it is like this.. The PS3 is the appetiezer before the meal, kind of teases you and holds you over for just a little bit, then comes the 360, its the whole nine yards lobster and all and the Wii is more like dessert. Sure people like the dessert and good appeteizers but people go out to eat for one main reason.. The main course I know that is not a great analogy but you have to admit its somewhat true. Without the 360 gaming would be lost.. pure and simple!

The gaming spectrum would be a miserable place so far this gen without it. But then again the PC never fails at churning out quality year in-year out.

LOL Great movie, but come on man i mean just think about it. Just imagine how crappy that would be is if gamers had to choose between the Wii or PS3 with no 360 with all the awesome 360 games and live

In theory, if M$ wouldn't have jumped into the fray, Nintendo would have done a LOT better last gen, and therefore would probably still be in the "next-gen" race, to rival Sony.

I don't think any one company dropping out of the race would make a large difference long-term. I'm sure if MS, Ninty, or Sony were to drop out of the race, Sega, or some other (probably electronics) company (like Toshiba, Apple, Sega, Atari, etc.) would hop on the bandwagon to fill the gap i'm sure.

Microsoft hasn't done anything for the video game industry that either Nintendo or Sony hadn't already done. If anyone deserves credit for "saving gaming" its obviously Nintendo, but that was like 15 years ago (or something)

A great movie indeed, but I don't think that w/o the 360, all of gaming would seize. After all, the PS2 pretty much dominated last gen, so it would seem right that Sony could pick up the pace just fine.

Someone forgot the PC.

Still, 360 is hands down the best console atm if you are lucky enough to have one of the working ones. It didn't save gaming but it has given Sony the big kick up the backside they needed.

If the 360 hadn't been here the other companies would have happily picked up the slack. The 360 saved nothing because nothing was dying.

The 360 is barley outselling the original xbox and MS hasn't made a single Penney from its xbox division EVER. The 360 cant even save itself.

Huh, I see the 360 as a shooter heavy console that sprinkles some other genres here and there, but doesn't do it frequently enough, caters to one small crowd that is fine with this lack of variety. Lets say you weren't a fan of shooters, first person or third, how many games would you own on the 360? In two years you'd probably not own a whole lot. 360 isn't saving anything, it's a console for one kind of gamer, a very passionate, if somewhat mislead gamer. I couldn't imagine ONLY owning a 360...

Well not rly,if Microsoft didn't take a shot at this generation all of it's games would goto the ps3,and it would probably end up being better as we'd have 1 power console and 1 casual console.

Most of the wars on gamespot is between ps3 and 360,so at least in term of gamers worlds,it would be better if the 360 never was.

Yeah, cause 95 percent of them are broken, right?

I don't think it saved gaming, but it definately is going in a direction I like. XBL is a great service. More games need to really take advantage of XBL, the way Halo3 will, with it's many XBL integrated community features. Now that's fun.

SONY and ps1 saved gaming right after nintendo, sony has made videogames into a mass market, where its very common to play games. MS is still too hardcore and has their niche and not changing much, if no 360 u have PS2 and wii and PS3, all doing good.

I agree with just about everything you said and I always wonder why fanboys can make fun of the 360. other then the falure rate which is real bad, everything else about the 360 is the best out of the three. If you like online and you want to play great games now, why wouldnt you own a 360?

Well if the 360 was not around and all else remained the same then yes.. console gaming would be far less appealing. But i would imagine if the 360 werent around devs would try to develop more on the other two so it MAY even out

MS did not really save gaming as most of the IPs and games can be played on PC, perhaps even better. To it's credit, MS is one of the main factor of why Sony is doing bad.

30% is bad enough let's not get carried away :P . Seriously though, I have a 360 and love it but saying it "saved" gaming is a bit of a stretch. I do however believe competition is good and don't want to see this race without any of the three. My son also has a Wii and I'm going to get a PS3 when the $399 sku comes out. Personally I think we're heading into a great time for gaming.

I disagree, the Wii is doing more (regarding "saving gaming") with its controller alone (it isn't just motion-sensing, I hope you realize)

The 360 is a good console, with poor hardware quality. It hasn't done anything for gaming. The original PlayStation is a different story though, that saved console gaming.

Well the 360 is definitely the best console so far this gen but the PS3 isn't doing too badly right now in terms of games. I'd probably become a hermit if I was stuck with the Wii though.

Onething I thank Wii for is that it slap Sony real bad for it's $599 price. One thing I thank Microsoft for is provided us hardcore gamers of better hardcore games even though there are mostly FPS. In other words, MS and Nintendo save us gamers and the video game industry for a possible Sony monopoly that will cause gamers a lot of money and developers too much stretch in budget to provide games and license fee.

Other then trying out the Wii remote none of the three have really proven themselves as GREAT gaming machines, great as in a wide variety of interesting and original games.

Honestly, the more I think about it... without the 360 being rushed out there, the PS3's only "direct" competition would be nintendo (probably). And if .. (doubtful) Nintendo DID just stick with the wii, It would be interesting to see what Sony did, at least as far as price points go. If its only competition is $400 cheaper... well... I dunno, I think they'd have to have sacrificed something. But since MS is out there with its $500 console, Sony can justify a $400, $500, and even $600 pricepoint.

SO, not to say we'd be better off without the 360, but I think it would definitely NOT have hurt gaming if MS just stuck with PC software.

How about a gamer with A DIFFERENT TASTE is games;)

I for one, have no intention of owning more than one console (Wii or PS3) simply because the Xbox 360 has THE GAMES I care about. And its all I'll ever need, imo. Does that mean I'm a "somewhat misled gamer"?

I for one, have no intention of owning more than one console (Wii or PS3) simply because the Xbox 360 has THE GAMES I care about. And its all I'll ever need, imo. Does that mean I'm a "somewhat misled gamer"?

not at all, like i said it caters to a very passionate group of gamers, nothing wrong with that at all. I was talking about those who like to pronounce the 360 as the best console and can't understand why anyone would disagree with them. The fact that you can be happy with just the 360 is fine by me, and probably everyone else, but i'd go crazy if it was all i could play.

[QUOTE="VideoGameGuy"]Huh, I see the 360 as a shooter heavy console that sprinkles some other genres here and there, but doesn't do it frequently enough, caters to one small crowd that is fine with this lack of variety. Lets say you weren't a fan of shooters, first person or third, how many games would you own on the 360? In two years you'd probably not own a whole lot. 360 isn't saving anything, it's a console for one kind of gamer, a very passionate, if somewhat mislead gamer. What do you think Nintendo fans and Wii owners have been saying the whole time? (no offense)

No one would know that, though--lemmings are too busy trashing sheep for liking different games.
