since the new premium 360 packages come with HDMI, why would you need the 360elite?

You never did. It is just a choice for some consumers who what to use there 360 for movies etc. I have one but personally it is just because my wife bought it for me as a second one.

Most people don't have a HD tv and even less have a new one that supports HDMI.

HDMI does nothing for the 360. If you already have a 360 without HDMI, save your money. Your not getting anything except for a larger hardrive.

My main appeal would be the black color. It looks sooo sick. If only I had money to burn and I could upgrade for that reason alone. Oh well, maybe in my next life...
