interesting.....

Well, make sure you got your warranty up to date. This console will end up costing the most since you would have to keep extending the warranty.

===========================================================

The scary part is what happens when your warranty runs out? or at the end of the life cycle, and you want to keep the console for a long long time. If your console dies, your games and accessories are useless.

===========================================================

Maybe MS should stick with Software instead of hardware.

===========================================================

MS's QA really screw up on this one if it is a design flaw as some speculate.

This doesn't surprise me. My 360 died about 1 week ago. It was a launch system. I sent it to M$ this morning.

It might sink the whole thing. Kind of sucks because I really like everything else about 360 besides P2P.

To be fair to MS it could just be an outdated/understaffed facility but either way this is bad news for MS.

Oh and TC your second link is broken.

Microsoft needs to announce a new360 model that addresses these hardware issues. Theycan'tjust fix these problems in secret like their doing.

Im wondering what the US numbers for broken 360s are. I think that it is a pretty safe bet that they are higher than the EU numbers.

Yeah right, real philanthopists over there at Nintendo HQ. They care about the customer so much they launched the Wii selling at a 50-75 buck profit :roll:

I agree. I'm on my 2nd. Premium died so i bought an elite. They really need to do something but i have a feeling they need to do some major changes to fix the problem. At the rate they're going they will have huge problems very soon. If they have to off load 360s eventually they're going to have way too many broken ones and have to do something. Also i can't imagine they would be willing to lose all the money on repairs.

lol, it's like having KeyWii back. :) Anyways, any non-fanboy person can figure that the failure rate is much less than what cows would like to believe, and much higher than MS would like to admit.

Oh Noez!! A company that wants to turn a profit?!?! For shame Nintendo that you made the choice to release an affordable console with affodable components, sell it for the least of all the next gen consoles,AND want to make a profit! Sheesh, companys making a profit on their goods, what is this world coming to?

My launch 360 went belly up about a year and a month of extremely heavy use as my game system and primary DVD player. It didn't give me the lights until I downloaded this Gears patch. I think what a lot of lemmings argue is that people aren't taking care of the system as prescribed in the instructions. Its not like a Genesis that you can put anywhere and it will run fine for centuries.

yeah, I don't find this very surprising. my original is being fixed right now and I'm really thinking about dumping MS all together. I'm not gonna stress and worry about my 360s breaking on a daily basis. I bet the failure rate is 100% (as in every single will fail in time due to motherboard warping). there is obviously a major design flaw.

and I'm shocked that all the cows are coming to this thread to report the 100% 360 failure rate....oh wait, no I'm not. With all the great games they have on their ps3's, they have a lot of time to surf the net. :)

(And no I'm not defending MS as the 360's failure rate IS much higher than it should be)

For NOw. WHAHAHAHAHAHA

It has to do with the heat and internal design of the console. Its just a matter of time before all 360s break like this. If you have bought a better cooling system, i would suspect that it just prolongs the inevitable.

The 360 is not a reliable console. I have one that was made in November 2005 and I have never had any problems with it, but that doesn't mean I won't. I have heard enough accounts from people that have had theirs fail to believe that this is a big problem and Microsoft should have done a better job of putting a stop to it.

This is, unfortunately for them, going to cost them lots of money as they have to honor existing warranties and as a side effect the bad press this is generating is going to scare a lot of potential purchases away.

Bad news for them.

Here are those extra measures I was talking about. See the copper pipe? I think MS should have done this initially. I'm not sure how it got through testing in its current form.

I think it's already too late. There are already 12 million or so Xbox 360s in circulation either in homes or on store shelves.

If you multiply the 2,500 number in the UK by 5 to account for the total number of Xbox 360 sales (rough guestimation), multiply the per day number by 30 for the per month number, then that by 12 for 1 year....you get 4.5 million.

Very ballpark but still a spectacular idea of where this all is going. You can project 30-50% based on these numbers.

wow just finished reading the article...yummy numbers :twisted:

just think about it, lets add say 14 more countries in Europe(15x2000=30000 a day) and add a little higher number for the US(lets say 50000). thats something close to 80000 broken 360's A DAY!!! (worldwide)

now just for fun lets multiply that by 30 and we have 2,400,000 broken 360's a month!!!

yeah its fun....specially when I see all the speculation posts of how Sony is doomed and is getting out of the gaming business because PS3 flopped.

I'm not ready to say their is a 30% failure rate but I am willing to say there is a HUGE problem that has not been addressed. You don't address a problem like this with a bandaid (extend warranty). They should have just released the X360 later and fixed the core issue which was a disign flaw that produces too much heat. But nooooo, they release it when more than likey KNEW it had a problem but again....this is fricking MS we are talking about. King of releasing broken stuff first and fixing it later. Only problem is this is a $400 problem.

I don't do that kind of thing. I would like to see Sony come in last for many reasons. But I never wished them to vanish.

I was not saying you did, I was saying I agreed that this forum is full of speculation posts that are probably wrong more times than not. I just can't fathom a 30% failure rate because that means MS is losing TONS of money fixing/shipping and who knows what other costs. If it really does fail this much they would have known about it before it launched and I'm sure Bill would not rip us off.

Jesus Christ.

I'll have to hope my 360 doesn't crap out. Oh well I'd rather run the 3 Ring risk then buy a ps3 and only have resistance. Unless I really wanted to give Oblivion another play through.

MS should build their own factory and oversee the building of the 360 and charge $200 more like Sony is doing.
