BC compatability is always important. When I got my 360 I was dissapointed that I could not play some of my older games because MS had decided to cheap out.
To be fair, I dont often feel the urge to play my older games, but its still irritating to know that you CANT play some of your games should the notion to do so arives.
The origional didnt have a massive library of games, I guess Microsoft felt that the urge to play origional games wasnt something that most of their customers wanted. I believe, that whether or not they felt that way they should have still put some basic emulation into the 360 so that all games could be played on it. In this iteration of the console war, having backwards compatability is, I believe, an important part of ensuring console dynasties.
Nintendo and Sony have made better efforts on this part, but I have to say, the 40gb having no BC debacle is a piss-poor effort by Sony. Saying that you removed it because you want people to stop playing PS2 games and go out and buy PS3 ones is a weak ass way to build customer relations. I think that Sony might need to realise that they actually have to make games that will make SURE that their customers are playing them, and not their old classics.
