Don't know if this should be in the PS3 section, the xbox section or a blog, mods feel free to move it.

I think its fair to say that since its launch, i've been very anti PS3. It came out over priced, and to me, didn't seem to back this over inflated price up with any reason to purchase it. Anyway, MGS4 has come out now, and being a fan of the series, my mates given me his PS3, games and blu rays for a few months.

The console

First thoughts were - wow, this this is big...it won't fit in my bag. And wow, this this is as heavy as it is big!!! However, that size and weight for some reason gives me a sense that this thing is reliable and dependable. Also doesn't have the that annoying seperate brick. Next thoughts were "where in the well is my HDMI port on my TV", "ooooh cool sensor button things" and "wow, this thing is soo quiet compared to my xbox 360".

Blu ray (movies)

"Meh ray" quite frankly. Good picture - yes - amazing picture...not really. Not compared to DVD. The best way I can sum it up is that if someone offered me a blu ray at the same price as a DVD and said "which one do you want", I'd pick the blu ray. However, they are not the same price...infact where i'm from (uk) blu ray is still very expensive and there are amazing DVD offers. So I really can't see the benefit of it at the moment. The other problem is that the DVD upscaler on the PS3 seems really good!.....which is great. I played a DVD and it looked great....thus adding more weight to me not needed to pay out for expensive blu rays. On a side not they haev changed the movie play back controls a little over the PS2..but no biggy.

The Games

Obviously i've spent most of my time on MGS4 - the pinicle of the PS3 lineup. The game deserves its praise, its awesome. Even if you hate MGS and everything about it, there is no denying the quality of this game. The presentation is amongst, if not the best I have seen in a video game. I don't know if I agree with arguement that this game cannot be done of Xbox 360 though. I've not seen anything (YET) that I could use as any sort of proof of that arguement. I think the xbox controllers have the slight edge, the sticks and triggers just seem a little better and also niether of the PS3 controllers I have been using have rumble. However, both controllers (ps3/xbox360) are great - there isn't much in it. I've not been able to try out the online, as I don't have the games needed (rainbow six, cod4 etc that I know inside out on 360) to make a good comparison.

Overall

The most important that I have realised from my time with it, is that the PS3 is now every bit as good as the Xbox 360. The "ownage" claims are now soo evenly stacked, that neither console really has enough to sway the balance in its favour.

personal opinion still sways (and i'm sorry PS3, I do have more love for you than I did...) slightly to the xbox 360. No matter what anyone says, I still feel that it is the cheapest (hard currency) way to play great next/this gen games. Also, when you add up the hours of gameplay, the xbox still have a slight edge in exclusive content/games.

The biggest problem is that if you own one of them, there isn't really a enough reason to buy the other.

I don't like the games, though I am a big Metal Gear Solid fan and GT fan, the other games just don't do it for me.

No games for me that arnt already on the 360, and more games that are exclusive that I enjoy more.

I will more than likely get a PS3 later though for its Blu-Ray player. When the movies go down in price.

My situation exactly.

The PS3 is nice and all and I use it all the time for movies and to mess around with photos and it works with all the different size memory sticks I have floating around the house but when it comes down to game playing the 360 is in the lead by far in my particular case.

I have been wanting to get a PS3 for a little while now. About a year ago I had the money to get it but didn't because it seemed to be lacking games. Now looking at it the PS3, it has just as many exclusives that I'm interested in as the Xbox 360 that come out this year. Sadly the price is still a problem for me so I'll have to stick to my 360 for another 3-6 months.

Atm I'm playing my 360 more, since I got it last tuesday. I'll be spending some time playing its best exclusives. Still I'll buy my multiplats for the PS3, since that's the system I prefer.

Already own the 360 so I don't see myself getting a PS3 until it becomes cheaper and with BC. Although if I didn't have the 360 and was going to buy a next gen system it would be the PS3.

I've both the 360 and the PS3 and although the 360 is the console i buy 95% of my games for (console wise) doesnt mean the PS3 isnt great, in fact i love the console, if i were to rate both consoles without factoring in games they'd both be equal.

There's a few reasons why my 360 is getting all the love (game wise) and that my PS3 is being used as a bd/dvd player ...

1. Being a big Xbox/Xbox Live user last gen has left me with a hefty friends list of good people from around the world.

2. Being the first out i've built up a bigger game library.

3. Controllers, sure i had a PS1, PS2 and now a PS3 but i never really liked the DS's design but love the Xbox controllers (last gen and this gen).

4. Games, the PS3 really does have some great games, unfortunately they're not exactly what i would prefer to play, i've had Uncharted, Motorstorm, Resistance, GT5P and MGS4 and although they where all good none of them made me go back for more after the first play through (even MGS4 i just found it meh although i agree the production was absolutely top notch as were the graphics).

Even with that said though, there's no way i'd sell my PS3 as i'm sure in the future it'll have some awesome titles that will hold my attention like games on the 360 have in the past, the first of them will be LBP which i cant wait for.

By no means a bad system, but like the TC said if you own a 360 no point in owning a PS3. I just prefer Microsoft's exclusives to Sony's.

My opinion on the system? It's terribly obvious Sony wasn't thinking of the end-user. They were thinking of bulletpoints. Everything in the console reeks of that.

Why aren't HD cables in there? Why do you get such a ridiculously short charging cable (seriously, it's pathetic)? Why do you need to install the things you've downloaded? Why can't I use my system name as my gamer name? I could go on. Even after the updates, all they do is keep adding things, and never thinking of them. Why on earth is the clock behind the gorram battery charge icon?!

Despite this, I do enjoy the system. It's not bad - and it's relatively quiet oftentimes (just don't let it get hot - then it will scare even your 360). Blu-Ray looks awesome on my 57" 1080p, and I like that I can connect my own bluetooth headset.

However, once you compare it to what the 360 brought to the table a year previous in interface and end-user friendliness, the PS3 is a machine with serious shortcomings. I purchased it mainly for blu-ray playing and the ocassional exclusive, and that's exactly what it has worked as. The only multiplat I've gotten for it is Stranglehold collector's edition, mainly because I didn't have Hard boiled on DVD.

well i have both and my 360 gets probably 95% of my play time :)HawtHawt

Well I have owned a 360 since December of 05 and I have loved it. I did get a PS3 earlier this year. It only had a few games that interested me. They were R:FOM and Motorstorm. Both were quite fun but R:FOM wasn't as good as the Halo series in my opinion. And the Blu-rays were nice but over priced and not a huge difference over dvd. I ended up selling the PS3 because all my friends are on Xbox Live and I barely used it. Yes, I missed Ratchet and MGS4 and GT5. But I figure by the time PS3 is cheaper and has a ton more games I will get one. I did the same thing last gen. I bought an Xbox 1st and got a PS2 later when it was $100 cheaper. Sony systems are good but overpriced in my opinion. I will get a PS3 when they are about $200 or so.

I have both a 360 and a PS3. Right now I only use the PS3 for movies. My only games are Uncharted and MGS4 which are great, but really the only exclusives worth owning imo. I regret not waiting longer for price drops/more games, but it would be stupid to sell it unless I'm 100% positive there are no more games coming out for it.

For games though, the 360 really is the only way to go for a serious gamer. Unless of course you're a fanboy. Then whatever gets your jollies off I guess.

Also for the few movies I buy, I generally stick to DVD unless the Bluray equivalent is $20 or less.

About the Blu-ray movies.....

You have to consider how the movie was encoded. some masters are transferred better than others.

Any ways. I own all 3 systems. I play the PS3 a good about the same maybe a bit more than my 360. I like the Blu-ray. I work at Blockbuster so the movie download isn't worth it to me, also I like a hard copy of the movies I own. I like how when a demo drops on the PSN I candownloadit right away without the "this is for gold members only. You have to wait." silliness. Anyways in the end I enjoy all my systems.

The PS3 is my main system and gets 80% of my playtime with the other 15% going to the 360 and then 5% to the Wii. The exclusives are good, with MGS4 being in the elite class of games. I don't care about Blu-Ray and do not have any Blu-Ray movies. The online is free and the PS3 is just the better value for someone's money in my opinion.

The 360 is leading in games at the moment but I'd expect it to.

it was the same in the beginning when the dvd format came out, there wasn't that big of a difference between dvd and s-vhs, but it did get better:)

and the new bond film is one of the Early releases.

True, but DVD didn't just improve the quality. It added a ton of new functionality. Everything from scene selection, to bonus features, interative menus, subtitles (multi languages), the list goes on.

I'm not saying blu-ray is bad...its just "meh". It doesn't really do anything to warrant the extra cost.

I can be called a ps3 gamer or xbox 360 :P but I'll wear my 360 hat here.

Spending most of my time on my 360 even still makes me think of the ps3 this way.

The Ps3 is an amazing system that will bring joy to anyone who owns one. That being said, it is still run by Sony and that can sting allot of us converted pc gamers pretty hard due to the epic fails of SOE. 3rd party games look lovely and play just as well on the ps3, do not let folks tell you otherwise. Lack of current and upcoming exclusives: I for one say mgs4 is reason enough to own a ps3.Current: I hated drakes, warhawk to me is boring and uninspired *hides* Resistance was a great game and worth picking up after you snag a ps3 (not enough to buy a system though) future: God of war 3.. I mean I care not if you a hardcore 360 fanboy, Kratos is still a badass and what bits shown look great. :P Little big Planet, though not my cup of tea, many casual gamers and teens can possibly pull others into the ps3 with this game alone, So I'd say it has a huge potential for a mainstream hit that will encourage new development options and risks taken for a great ps3 exclusive to even be made. R2 will keep the shooter fans happy, that I'm sure of. Killzone 2 will have some following aswell, mainly due to the graphical content (up to this point that's all I see) and so on, The exclusives ps3 will be dropping are what is going to set the standard for the generation, coming late 09 I do not think this conversation will even be needed though heh.

Ouch, anyways points:

1.) Great system

2.) Fun games

3.) 3rd party titles galore, so do not forget the time spent with these on your 360 when screaming no games for the ps3 :P

4.) The future of the ps3 , minus a few Live, and marketplace perks, I feel the overall strength of a new purchase by anyone has got to be the ps3 come mid 09. Until then, its in the air, and if you have spare cash, DO IT, get both and never look back!

5.) The Hardware in the ps3 will last the test of quite a few years without any new hardware buys on your part, unlike the 360, who already pushes a new purchase to the bigger hd, after singing the core units glories during ps3 launch I did want to choke someone heh.

Buy a ps3, buy a 360. and you win as a gamer.

It's a shooter driven console, and it lacks in high quality games, unlike 360 and Wii.

I have both, and I prefer gaming on my Xbox 360. The PS3 isn't bad by any means though. It does have its uses such as playing Blu-Ray movies, and its still home to some good exclusives such as MGS4.
