exactly, being the only next gen console out I expected it to sell more(I doubt Microsoft has sold 10 million, maybe to retailers but definitely not to customers). Microsoft will only be supplying 2 million consoles from now till June because there are SO MANY 360's sitting on shelves while PS3 is selling at a good rate which will increase next month because of so many good games getting released plus the European Launch :D.
I expect that by June PS3 would have sold half of what 360 has sold and by the end of the year Sony would closed the gap between 360 and PS3 sales. Next year PS3 will overtake 360 guaranteed, you can quote me on that 8)

I would say they failed miserably...sales are gonna start slowing done for them now that the other 2 consoles are out...IÂ predict that 1 yr from now - the 360 will be extinct.Â

It should've sold abit more but you have to realize that the 360 broke the traditional $300 price point with the release of the system... And once again noone is buying it in Japan.  Actually I'm surprised it reached that number given the support(or lack there of) from that regions consumers.. Personally I think it's selling at a good rate (just not great) and it's beating the PS3 since the launch so that's got to account for something...

Another thing I don’t understand is why people are so surprised that Nintendo is selling so well, its NINTENDO they always sell. I just don’t like seeing Mario in 75% of all there games.

Considering it had no Japanese support, no big name sequels released (Halo, Forza, Kotor, Fable) and sold 10 million is VERY very impressive. 360 has done a good job and will only do better as they release the big names and the game library expands.

That cheaper consoles sell faster than more expensive ones. Like the Gamecube? The Gamecube was different. It didn't have to go against a 400 and 600 dollar console. It also wasn't designed as elegantly as the Wii. That definitely worked against it as it looked like a toy. The Wii is a very sleek looking console. And nobody would be embarrassed to put it in their tv setup.

360 sales weren't as good as Wii's because it was the first console out. This allows some early sales but the problem with the strategy is that competitors just claim they have something better and people wait to see what it is. That's what happened to Ms. Sales will get better and I have a 360 and my brother does when I had a GC last get and he had a PS2 so Ms. I also know far more people with 360's than Wii's even though Wii is probably outselling 360 at the moment here in Europe.

Obviously it's a good thing, it was their goal after all and company's don't usually hit their sales goals. I doubt we'll see the PS3 in the same position come its one year.

SEGA was nearly bankrupt when they launched the DC, they poored everything into the DC, they were hoping it would save them, but they were wrong, SONY launched and SEGA couldn't financially support the DC.

No, 10 million is not so good. It indicates to me that Xbox 360 will take second place as its predecessor. The problem with Xbox is that it doesn't cater to different tastes. The hyped games are mostly shooters. It has very good games, but many are coming to PC, and PC owners love their PCs. Online Gameplay? the PC does it better.
How do they aim to sell the system to the Japanese is beyond me.

Exactly, the 360 was out for a year without any of their big franchises really coming out for it while it was out by itself with no competition. It was a smart move because they sold consoles being the first gen out while having none of their huge titles out really. And they got a huge surprise with Gears of War and it's amazing numbers.
Many people were assuming the 360 would launch with Halo 3 and then they said it would be released to match up against the PS3 launch. People don't realize how big a deal the Halo 3 release is going to be. It's like they relaunched the system when they do it. And not all Halo fans have bought their 360 yet. I know many who are waiting for the holidays in 2007 when Halo3 comes out to get it.
