So sure it's slow and steady and not breaking any sales records but 1 million Japanese people now own 360s I think that has to be a bit of a milestone.

Now I know this figure is based on VGChartz and probably some kind of units to retail rather than sales to peeps but still I think it's a milestone to be proud of.

And I know the Cows are going to rumble on about how well their heavy lump PS3 is doing in Japan but that's expected is it not.

MS on the other hand is not strong in Japan but I think this is a respectable figure.

they are improving maybe next gen they will be serious contenders to both nintendo and sony. i know they are now, but i mean having a chance of winning the sales war.

It is kinda impressive tho, when you think about it... Japanese people rarely embrace alot of western electronics (it happens, altho I am not sure Id call this an embrace)

To be honest I did not think it would happen... it is afterall the homeland of both the PS and Nintendo...

i can't remember which company it was, samsung or someone, i think they are korean, stopped selling their tv's in japan because they wasn't selling as they preferred japanese brands like sony.

Don't forget in that most recent Famitsu poll, more Japanese gamers are satisfied with the 360 than Wii and PS3.

fairly safe to say that ms failed to try to be relevant in japan. if it took 3 years for 360 to even sell in japan, why is ms still trying. even with lost odysey, tales, star ocean 4 last remnan, eternal sonatat and infinite undiscovery (not sure if thats the right title), i'm surprised they couldn't pull more than that. at least 5 million. they seriously couldve allocated those sku's to other regions and save their money, cut their losses and move on from japan. theyve certainly had better success in eu and na, so just concentrate there

Why are you using VGChartz when there are 2 REAL trackers for the japanese market. Famitsu and Media Create. MC has the Xbox at around 940K. Not sure about Famitsu. Don't use VGC. That is all.

This post is full of fail lol. Why would you expect the 360, an American console, to sell 5 million when the PS3 isn't even there...

Why should MS give up anyways? If they quit, they'll look stupid and them putting in $$$ for JRPGs are not only benefiting Japan, but every JRPG fan around the world.

They are currently selling 8k a week in Japan, that's 400,000 a year, that's not going to break records but is still significant enough to warrant the effort MS puts in.

Also if you have 1 million users now and release the successor to the 360 then you hope those 1 million users will by the new product giving you a stronger foot-hold in the next gen.

It's a long slow war MS appear to be fighting in that territory but they don't appear to be willing to write it off yet.

Even though the XBOX 360 hasn't sold ONE Million in Japan yet, it will.(VGcharts = )

So, we may as well congrat M$ now, what's the difference?

Congrats M$, you did it! Sure, M$, you claimed you were going to do it Xmas 2008, but it still is about to happen, so congrats.

Who would have thought that when the 360 launched in JAPAN back in 2005, that in 2009, M$ would have sold ONE MILLION?! Crazy!

I guess all those JRPG's M$ bought were really the magic to win over the new fans. Congrats M$.

Wha???

It's on the tail of the PS3 maybe...if it's a LONG, Long Tail.

The 360 having one million means it has no presense, however, it's a milestone since the Xbox never did that.

Actually they originally planned to sell 1 million by summer 2006. Anyway, onwards to 2 million :D Hopefully it won't take another half of a decade.

Well, at it's current rate, and assuming Next Gen doesn't happen until 2015 (yeah right, but we can dream) probably hit 1.5- 2 million by 2013.

Pretty good for Microsoft. They have gained a lot of ground in Japan this gen. Sold more consoles there then last gen and in less time. Compare it to the PS3 which is selling less everywhere then it did last gen. Heck PS3 can not even sell as much this year as it did last year according to NPD but that is only NA. Grats to Microsoft for making up ground while its main competitor losses ground.
