i am not a fanboy of any console.this generation of gaming consoles will come to an end in another 2 years or so and we know that there is nothing to wait for now.we have atleast 500 great games out there from the past 5 years and its time to game them if we havent till now.i believe this thread is to help those who want to buy a new console and dont knw which to decide',hence i would appreciate it if those who post in this thread follow the following rules-

1.by gamers having both consoles,or have had experience with both consoles

2.see every factor-now that we know the new consoles in the market dont have any hardware or technical issues, lets be real

3.online gaming and market

4.accessories also to be considered-controllers,cables,battery kits,

5.pricing

6.game availability and variety

7.we dont want any big hardware pro's in here to tell us which console has a better cpu or graphics unit, games should look rocking on the hd tv,thats it.

8.people with atleast a gamespot ranking of level 15 or above are welcome to post-so we know that they have been gaming for a while.yes,we know a lot of veteran gamers are out there who werent gamespot members, but excuse, coz we need a measure of some sort.

I'd say go with the PS3 if you also have a good gaming PC, otherwise go with 360.

Ps3 exclusives makes a ps3 worth getting, while the 360 has only acouple of games worth getting it for, the rest is on pc. Thats why i have a ps3+gaming rig :P

PS3 for the exclusives otherwise if your into mainly multiplat then go with 360, still cheaper.

THey are both great. Just depends on what your interested. Like which exclusives intrest you more, where are your friends online,do you want to pay for live and so forth. I own both and both are great in thier own right. I just perfer my PS3 for everything for free online,DS3 and I enjoy the exclusives way more for it. Plus now that its 300 bucks it makes it more tough on which to choose if your deciding which to get. I dont put the arcade unitin the mix cause if your looking to get the most out your 360 you need a hardrive.

alright i have both 360 and ps3.

i like the 360s live service since it is faster way way faster it takes me way to long to download games on the psn.

i like the psn themes specialy the dynamic themes they look very impressive and nice and much better than the 360s.

i like the gamerscore system in the 360 very easy to use and achivments get uploaded automaticaly the trophie system on the other hand is way behind and uploading syncing and comparing them is a long time comsuming task.

in general the i bash the 360 live alot before because rthey charge us money but now that i have the ps3 the online service is amazing games like gears of war 2 are known for its lag and is bashed but trust me gears of war lag is nothing NOTHING compared to the psn games lag all games practical lag in the psn.

as for games i havent tuched my 360 for months now since i am a ninja gaiden fanatic and ninja gaiden sigma 2 and gow colletion are exclusive to the ps3 ive been on the ps3 non stop.

there is something about the ps3 that keeps u interessted in it even tho the online games are way less in numbers than the 360s but the psn sstore is truely outstanding.

i like the 360s controller more but for me ps3 ds3 controller suits me better since i also play alot of street fighter like games and i need a good dpad and im not a fan of the arcade stick.

compair games in my opinion.

i hate uncharted and killzone and im not a fan of those games but still the ps3 has an undinieable amazing exclusives like infamous ninja gaiden sigma and gow collection.

the thing about the ps3 they hav top rated games for every gerne.

my vote will go to the ps3 because since i last bought halo wars and star ocean and halo odst my 360 been collecting dust and im been since around september only on the ps3. the 360 lacks third person action advention games and platformer like rachet and clank but they make up with it with fps that i like.

year 2009 imo goes to ps3 because the games that truely interested me in the are

ps3 : ninaj gaiden sigma 2, gow collection, tekken 6, marvel vs capcom 2, infamous and rachet and clank

360 : halo wars, halo odst and prototype and resident evil 5.

but in 2010until nmow im more interested in the 360 line up alan awake, splinter cell conviction halo reach and bayonetta compaired to the one game that i want on the ps3 god of war 3.

Respect what your trying to do. I have a 360 Elite, and an 80 gig BC PS3. The 360 controller is a much more comfortable controller for me. DS3 is cool, but not my fave. I usually buy my console for games. Exclusives aren't the only games out there, multis exist and I usually find a multiplat is my favorite game most years. So look at the exclusives, but look at the performance and DLC offered by each system for multiplats as well. I have been buying batteries for most of my life and I know I will be for something in the future, so replacing batteries doesn't bother me with the 360 controller. As for online, I find Live a better community than PSN. I meet gamers more open to talking, and becoming friends, than on PSN. I have seen a difference in the amount of people using mics, on PSN, but it is still low enough in certain games that it's a drag to me. Pricing evens the playing field easily for me. If I had $300 today, it would be a tough decision between the consoles for me. I like supporting American companies first, as an American, but at the same price the PS3 is a stronger value imo. Don't know if any of this helped, but that's my experience to some degree.

I enjoy both consoles... i give the slight edge to PS3 only cause there are more exclusives i liked playing / look forward to, however 360 surely has so much to offer for those who own it or else think about getting one..

I'm too old and cynical for all the fanboy stuff now, last gen I had a PS2 and an Xbox, before that I had a Dreamcast, an N64 and a PS1. I got over any fanboyism after my "Sega Roolz, Nintendo sux" Phase when I was a kid, so I feel I can be objective about this. When I chose which console to get this gen the 360 was really the only reasonable option. At the time it was significantly cheaper, there were many more games, those games that were multi-plat were generally slightly better on the 360, I didn't have an HDTV at the time so Blu-Ray wasn't relevant etc. If I were making the choice now it would be more difficult. The price is now comparable, 360 being slightly cheaper, PS3 representing better value. The amount of quality games is about the same, with the PS3 having the edge in exclusives lately. I rarely play online so I don't feel like the fee for live is really justified in my case, free online would allow me to dip into multi-player when I feel like it without feeling like I'm being screwed by the fees. I'm now all HDTV'd up so Blu Ray is tempting too. Overall, if I was making my choice now the PS3 would be the better fit for me, but fanboy-ism aside they both do the job. I don't see the point in getting both though, the vast majority of games are multi-plat, and the differences between versions are usually so minor as to be irrelevant.

kuvze

1. I've had experience on both consoles before.

2. The new consoles on the market do have hardware or technical issues! Only fanboys deny this. With that said: Xbox 360 Hardware failures are worse and more frequent than PS3 hardware failures.

3. XBL > PSN. Value wise, XBL is not worth it for the what they are offering! Microsoft should of made the core gaming free, everything else (which can be considered a premium) could have a price. Basicaly what Sony is doing with PSN. The community for XBL owns the community for PSN; this is most likely due to the fact that the majority of them have head sets!

4. Pricing for controllers for both consoles are ****. Not being a fanboy, but accessories for the Xbox 360 are even worse. Especially when some of them should come included in the intial cost. Nothing wrong with having to have to buy batteries for the 360 controller. Though that doesn't mean that it is better than the PS3 controller. For all the pros and cons a good source would be jon4lakers (i think that was the name) on Youtube. He did a comparison, and if i remember properly, it was a draw! Because both controllers had pros and cons which cancelled each other out. HDMI cables should be coming standard with each console as well. Poor part by both Microsoft and Sony.

5. Pricing for the intial console can mean different things. I have no problem paying for expensive items. But VALUE is a different topic on its own. The PS3, for its price, has a better value. Yes, it can do more than game - which a lot of people will think is useless. But would you rather spend maybe $50 less and not be able to go on a [alright] web-browser, play blu-ray movies, etc. It's just better value. That isn't to mean that the Xbox 360 doesn't have a whole lot of other features as well. But non of them are as big as having an in-built blu-ray player. Especially when PSN most likely offers the same type of features as well.

6. At this point in time, both consoles have a large variety of games [both great and terrible]. I have enjoyed, and im looking forward to, games on both consoles. So this is entirely up to the consumer. Both consoles have great looking games. With, at the moment, Uncharted 2 being "console graphics king" though I am expecting that to change in 2010. Alan Wake is my bet on next console graphics king. Going back and forth from the two consoles.

7. I ain't going to talk about that. Because, in general, why would you care which one has the better GPU and CPU for a console? The graphics on either console isn't going to jump dramatically like the PC. Not only that but most people, casual people which are the majority of us in the world, care about what they see. I know that Uncharted 2 looks better than Halo. Even if the Xbox 360 has a better GPU. Heck, Uncharted 2 looks better than MW2. At least from what I could tell. Though I havn't done a side by side comparison. With that said, deciding which game looks better IS NOT opinion (to those who think that). I ask, is Crysis not better looking that Uncharted 2? You can't argue otherwise with it.

8. I'm rank...well ive forgotten...but 20 something. :)

9. I don't think I have been a fanboy with my post. I also think I have been as factual as possible.

Can't believe that you didn't include the Wii or the PC. But I guess it's because the PS3 and Xbox 360 are bigger rivals. Both in business and in System Wars.

I like 360 for the controller(you can plug a headset into it and switch out battery packs)and XBL.

I love the dual charger for two Xbox 360 battery packs.

I don't care for PS3 exclusives. I don't want to bother with using a bluetooth for a game console. I don't like that I can't switch out batteries when the current ones are going low. I hate the dual shock contoller , mostly because of the triggers and the analog sticks are too close together.

I don't need a bluray player to watch HD movies or even better the NFL in HD.

I can get lots of stuff on my PC that I couldn't get on either console.

For me it's PC/360/iPhone 3GS with iTunes

I own every console/handheld this gen, but I don't own a gaming rig. If I could only have one it would be the 360 hands down. But if your just looking for something to play COD on, buy the one most of your friends own, since thats one of the best parts of gaming.

XBOX 360 and PS3 are both good consoles.I have 360 and PS3 but i like more the 360. I am buy all the multiplatform games on 360 because they look and play better with better smooth framerate. The 360 have more RPG games and more FPS games and i like the 360 exclusive games.(Gears,Fable 2,Halo,Forza 3,Ninja Blade...and more) I use the PS3 only for BRay movies and the good PS3 exclusives games..(U1&2,Resistance 2,God of War 3....). But if you don't care for the PS3 exclusives games then it is better to go with the 360.And i like more the 360 controller.

If you want to play mostly online, but what your friends have, if your more into offline or have no gaming friends buy the one with the games that appeal to you most. You really can't go wrong with either one.

I believe that it all depends on your taste in games. Would you enjoy Uncharted over Gears? Halo over Resistance? inFamous or Fable 2? I know there are tons of great multiplats on the consoles, but if you wish to make decision between the two you should look at exclusives.

Also, if you are only able to get a wireless connection for some reason the PS3 is good there, or if you don't want to pay for online gaming PS3 takes it there. Otherwise... yeah. That's what I have to say.

Are you saying that the Wii is the only system that you can have fun on, and that every game you play on the PS3 & 360 is actually some "interactive movie," therefore you are only "playing movies" if you only game on the PS3 & 360?

Nice thread, oddly had you asked this question a year ago I would have said 360 hands down but now? not such an easy call, like others have said what do you prefer in terms of library between the two consoles and what have most of your friends/colleagues got, Those are realy going to be the only imprtant factors that will greatly impact your decision, in all honesty though I'm currently leaning towards the PS3 but hey if your in a position to get both get both, (I know you wanted above level 15 but I'm guessing that was to preven the zomg my conzoles is teh best posts however if you want me to delete just msg me)

There are pros and cons of both systems. Xbox cons are hardware quality and costly accesories. I own a PS3 and love it, but I would like to see more ingame music from my library and a headset similar to what the xbox uses.

Like everyone has been saying there are pros and cons of each system. Right now I play my 360 way more than my PS3. That is because my PC is pretty old, I dig the online community, more of my friends own 360s, and I prefer the multiplayer games on 360 (Halo, Gears, Left 4 Dead, etc.). That does not mean I don't enjoy my PS3 a great deal. I loved going through Uncharted 2 and having a Blu ray player is extremely nice. If I didn't prefer Live to PSN and my friends were on PS3 I would probably buy more multiplats for it, but that isn't the case. I have gotten a lot of enjoyment out of both systems and I encourage people to own both if they have the time and money.

I would personally go with the PS3 due to hardware reliability. I like to use the analogy of getting a car with a great warranty but always having to bring it in for service. I can't stand that and wouldn't care how good the warranty is if I'm always have to bring it in constantly and not get to use it worry free. The XBOX 360 is a poorly built system thatdoes provide the same offline experience as the PS3. Even with the Jaspers the DVD drive isvery cheap so good chance that will break. Now online thexbox does outshine the PS3 withcross and party chat but for me that is awasted feature since I don't play online that much. I haven't found the PSN network to have any issues with lag or connection issues for the most part so it is good for basic online gaming. They both have great exclusives so it really is your preference. Controllers is preference as the Dpad is better on the DS3 while the bottom triggers are better for the 360 one. For me the decision is easy as I lovenot having to worry about my electronics working and since the PS3 and XBOX 360 both technically give you pretty much the same gaming experience thePS3 would be the way to go. I have 2 PS3's and 2 of my brothers each have 1 all are older 80gb models and I have a friend that has the 60gb and none of us have had an issue with them.

I know Im not lvl 15 or higher, but I felt like speaking my mind.

I bought a 360 back in the day, when it launched. Due to import taxes, I payed U$S 1050. I loved it, but early games were, to be honest, underwhelming. Thats until the likes of Dead Rising and Gears of War appeared. But soon after that, it RROD (I supposse I was one of the firsts), so I repaired it and sold it.

I stayed with my PS2 until the release of the 80G BC Motorstorm PS3, bought, loved it, but it YLOD on me this November the 1st due to an spike in power. So I bought an Slim, and next week, Im receiving my new 360, which now I feel more assured to buy as there are more "reliable" hardware now.

Now, due I prefer one over the other? No. They both have their strong points. Live is a much more complete service than PSN, in many ways. Though in the end, the basic service is the same on both, though just for online gaming, PSN is better thanks to the fact that it is free.

Regarding things as controllers and accessories, I have to say, I would love a mix between the Xbox and PS3 controller. I would love to have triggers in the fashion of the 360, but with the size of the PS3 ones. Analog sticks like the 360 ones, LB and RB with pressure sensors as in PS3, but the size of the controller should be as in the 360.

As for games, Im currently more and more on the PS3, the 360 has been lacking in the games department for the past few years, and JRPGs are no more what they used to be, while new IPs like Valkyria and Demons Souls have accomplished the unthinkable.

So, in the end, Im stuck in the middle here. I can decide on which one, and I get my multiplats on the PS3 because my friends have PS3's which in the end, can be the only important deciding factor to decide on multiplats.

Both consoles offer a good and diverse lineup. I prefer 360 mostly for its bigger library and (imo) better controller.

If you only have friends online, get a 360

If you have friends in real life get a ps3

If you have no friends at all get a pc

hope this broad generalisation helps tc.

Fixed it as I can't see where you could say that about the PS3 since they only have a few exclusive games that support offline co-op while the 360 has quite a few that support offline even if they are shared with the PC. This is the one thing that I don't like about the PS3 is that it lack of support for offline co-op in it's exclusives. Good thing for mulitplats or my g/f and I would never play on my PS3 together.

I don't have any friends on either that I don't know personally on either system. Saying that, the ps3 is the more complete package. The only thing that bugs me about the ps3 is that it feels sort of deserted. I hope that it get cross game chat which would brighten things up a bit.

360 has better services in live, but the ps3 wins in reliability. I don't think that I would have got a ps3 if my first 360 didn't break. But Microsoft should be doing what Sony does in getting big time exclusives. Imagine that?

Ps3 could have been discontinued if Microsoft scored big time games like the uncharted series. It's like Microsoft could do with some drive for blockbuster games and Sony could do with the services know how. Both companies have what the other needs. Lol.

Even with the short comings of the 360, I still would chose it over the ps3 due to imo having more personality.

Hardware - PS3 wins (RROD has been well documented + the PS3 does come with a BluRay player and a Wi Fi adaptor)

Online & Community - XBL wins (even though you have to pay for it, the XBL experience is the best any console has to offer. This is helped by the fact that every system comes with a head set and that the upgrades are usually significant. They have managed to stay two steps ahead of PSN throughout this gen which is evidenced by the facts that PSN keeps trying to emulate the XBL experience with each passing upgrade, and that there are more people on XBL than PSN despite the $50 per year fee.)

Games - This is how I break it down:

  • The best SPORTS games are on both systems (i.e. Fifa, Madden, NBA 2K) but PS3 has a very slight edge due to MLB the Show.
  • The best FIGHTING games are on both systems (i.e. SFIV, Tekken, Virtual Fighter) but the 360 has a very slight edge because of DOA.
  • The best HORROR games are on both systems (i.e. Dead Space, RE) so thats a tie.
  • The best SHOOTERS are on 360 - Halo 3 and ODST are better than both Killzone 2 and Resistance and Gears 1 & 2 are better than Uncharted 1 & 2.
  • The best RACING games are on the 360 - In addition to the multi-plats (Dirt, Burnout, etc.) the 360 has PGR 3 & 4 + Forza 2 & 3 vs. GTP for the PS3
  • The best PLATFORM/ADVENTURE games are on the PS3 - The R&C series and LBP are better than Kameo and Banjo
  • The best FAMILY/PARTY games are better on the 360 - Scene It!, Viva Pinata, Lips vs. Buzz and Singstar (VP tips the scale in favor of the 360 here).
  • The best RPGs are on the 360 - Mass Effect, Fable 2, Lost Odyssey and Blue Dragon vs. VC & Demon Souls

Value - see the above points and make your own decision. I say 360 wins.

360 or PS3=Whichever one your friends have or majority do 360=Game library, sure 360/PC games are disregarded which is pretty fair on SW but for someone who doesn't want to shell out that extra dough for a gaming PC has a cheaper choice wit 360 360 or PS3 (depending on your situation)=Pricing, while 360 games normally get cheaper sooner, XBL cost while PSN doesn't. If you don't do online altogether then 360 PS3=Basic features, Blue-Ray right out of the box is great for HDTV owners 360=All features, Seperated the two because you need to pay for XBL Gold for all features. Video streaming, integration with zune and last.fm, and many other features show 360 has more muscle BUT you have to pay extra for them PS3=You can find cheaper third-party accesories which makes the "offline" functionality of PS3 much better. You could probably buy 1TB HD for the price of MS 120GB HD 360=Online functionality and streamlined menu. Not a major concern but I truly get annoyed of having to scan through all of PS3's *enter word here* settings and the annoyingly long wait for things like some system updates or demos. Makes everything look clunky and cluttered in comparison to 360's menu PS3=Hardware reliability, although 360 has a 3-year warranty which is nice but the failure rate of 360's is probably 2-3 times greater than PS3.

[QUOTE="King_Dodongo"][QUOTE="charizard1605"]This thread fails because you excluded the Wii. It can never be a true gamers' thread if you simply ignore one system.Zassimick

Yup it's like all matters this gen is "playing movies" not having fun

Are you saying that the Wii is the only system that you can have fun on, and that every game you play on the PS3 & 360 is actually some "interactive movie," therefore you are only "playing movies" if you only game on the PS3 & 360?

Sorry I don't think that in general but when I see people comparing screenshots and stuff like that
