According to this http://www.gamespot.com/news/6171483.html?action=convert&om_clk=latestnews&tag=latestnews;title;0 they are expecting the 360 to have a WW user base of 13.2 million by the time Halo 3 launches in September and that is before the holiday season even kicks off.

If that projection ends up being true, then the 360 will probably have around a 16 to 18 million user base by years end. A price drop plus system selling games like Lost Odyssey, Halo 3, GTA IV, Mass Effect, etc all coming out in the last 4 months of the year will push system sales.
