I ask this because so many people think this is a minor issue...but I think MS saw this one coming out the door. If you remove the faceplate from your 360 you will see on the top a slot just larger enough for a coat hanger/pointy object to be inserted and force the tray open.

Point is...there is no such peripheral sold with the Xbox 360 to use in this prying...no set guideline...just wedge it open. I had my tray stop working and was told if I didnt want to pay the refurbishing fee this was my option..to pry it open.

This in tandem with so many other problems with the Xbox 360 leads me to believe that the console was literally built with breaking in mind. (i know products break but the idea is to build a product that doesn't. Wii and PS3 are fine. I can leave my PS3 on folding for days straight.) Don't get me wrong....I use to own and love it...but that was right b4 the new warranty announcement...the I personally believe the new line of "Chips" will secretly also be a MASSIVE reconfiguration and hardware issue resolving attempt. I think they will do it under that guise so as to avoid teh uber fansuit.

Thought?

Dude, it's microsoft. All of their hardware sucks. It all has sucked since the 80s. They come up with these great ideas yet they make their hardware extremely cheap and faulty.

I wouldn't be so brash to call it a minor issue, but I also don't think it's a big a deal as they make it out to be here on System Wars, especially considering the rush of fake broken Elite pics at launch. My first 360 crapped out on me, but they had a new one back to me in exactly a week that still works to this day.  I really can't complain too much with a turnover that painless.

That may be acceptable for you, but not for me. I think it is quite a big deal, considering watchdog did a feature on this concerning the number of complaints from consumers.

For year one owners who had problems year one that break woulda been 3 weeks and in some cases 150 dollar problem. They are better now but they knew this console was unrefined at launch...very unset imo. I think they knew full well....console iterations get better yes..but this buggy? wow.

Well, the hardware stinks, buy an extended warrenty, I'm not going to cry about breaking 3 PS2s over the last few years why am I going to gripe about how crappy the 360 was put together. People on SW have selective memory disorder.

I wouldn't say they built it to break, but i will say they rushed this console without much care.

I hope I get a brand new 360 instead of a refurbished (however you spell it) 360.

I will never defend MS for releasing the 360 with problems, and then trying to cover it up by saying there's olny a 3% failure rate, that's a lie.

But it does have the best games of all three consoles at the moment so what do you do.

Well apparently Sony didn't acknowledge the PS2's problems and do something until a lawsuit happened...

Dude, it's microsoft. All of their hardware sucks. It all has sucked since the 80s. They come up with these great ideas yet they make their hardware extremely cheap and faulty. organic_machine

Xbox1's hardware didnt suck, it worked perfectly. Anyways maybe they are meant to break, I mean, around 150$ per repair, thats alot of money for MS to make. All I know is that mine broke once without any previous problems or malfunctions. And now its in for repairs at $170! I love my 360 but this is really trying my patience.

Why would you not get a warranty? When I get a PS3 i'm getting warranty on that too even without a known failure rate. Just get a MS warranty

Hmmm the xbox360 has been out for less then two years. MS gives you one free year of warranty. So if we assume you got the minimum of 1yr of warranty that would mean you were covered two years... how it could it break out of warranty that makes no sense

I don't see how it could have broken two months after his warranty he said he got ended. Must be lying or talking about the free warranty which you didn't get, you were given and I was talking about why he didn't get a two year warranty with MS or something which you should do for any console that costs over $399.99 or over $499.99 here in Canada

Yeah, the 360 is an unreliable piece of garbage. My friends and I have them act up every once in a while, but whatever, it's got the best games so we have to put up with hiccups here and there. Can't wait for the revised machines to start coming out though, I will definitely buy one as pathetic as that is.

I'm just glad I got lucky with my system (had it since release day). Has never failed, overheated, and has not created any scratches on my GeOW disk.

My friends haven't been so lucky though...

Fake Pictures?? Dude it was real..stop tryin to denial it what Microsoft is doing to their hardware its unforgivable because its so faulty!! this is a big issue and microsoft is not adressing the problems seriously.Their is no changes in the new Elite so its goin to break down just like all the thousand of xbox360 out there in the past .. Every single day someone xbox360 is dying..Kotaku, IGN, Joystiq . 1up went through a few xbox360s. If you check xbox forums and neogaf there is a lot of people who went through 4-8 360. Most of the time Microsoft sends you a another 360 and that will break down on you too. 360 is junk!! the only good thing it can do is just gives out  the 3 red light of death..

Hey, nice unbiased, fanboy-less post there.

For anyone out there looking for easy pickings, find one of those crappy photoshopped elite pics and post it here.

Hmmmm I guess I could be wrong in your case normally the viral marketers never respond when you call them out. I guess someone could exhibit all the signs and still not be a shill, its just rare.

I answered the question further up, for some people the 360 is junk, buy the extended warrenty like you have to do with every other piece of electronics you buy or prepare to be dissappointed, mine has a year and a half to go before the warrenty expires. will it stink if it breaks? Yes it will and it most likley will break but other than the turaround time on shipping I am covered.

I went through 3 PS2s over the last few years and I'm not crying about it, it was worth the trouble to play the games, just as the 360 is.

Here's something funny; the PS2 had just as bad, if not worse, defect rates as the 360, and Sony made each and every person who was unfortunate enough to recieve a DRE PAY for it to be repaired. And yet, the fanboys here STILL praise it as the best system of all time (and it arguably is), while the 360 is among the worst due it's hardware failures...

Yeah...I wouldn't answer me either. Best call you have made all week.

Dude, it's microsoft. All of their hardware sucks. It all has sucked since the 80s. They come up with these great ideas yet they make their hardware extremely cheap and faulty. organic_machine

I've had my X360 since Sep 06, no failures. Guess mine isn't built to break.AdobeArtist

Two months before it launched? Nice.

My replacement has been kicking strong ever since I got it back in January of 06.  Not that I was any less happy about my launch console crapping out, but I feel obligated to give any company a second chance.

I stand by my original call. If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck odds are, its a duck. It's pretty common knowledge that marketers frequent the forums.

Then again its always possible that I'm paranoid and need to reinforce my aluminum foil skull protector to keep the voices out.

Here's something funny; the PS2 had just as bad, if not worse, defect rates as the 360, and Sony made each and every person who was unfortunate enough to recieve a DRE PAY for it to be repaired. And yet, the fanboys here STILL praise it as the best system of all time (and it arguably is), while the 360 is among the worst due it's hardware failures...Verge_6

The 360 is a lot more expensive Peripharals and all. If I pay 450+ I expect my hardware not to fail.

Don't care. My point still stands that the PS2 had many hardware deficiencies, and it still became renowned worldwide.

The 360 is a strange beast. It looks kind of nice and easily beats xbox one when it comes to looks and ergonomics. But when you turn it on it feels like its struggling to use all the power MS put into it. The best way you can say what I mean is to look at the power adapter, Why is it so big? Why couldn't they make an effort to make it look less ugly? And why don't the holes covering most of the console actually cool it down? It feels like MS have just stuffed alot of powerful chips into a plastic box and hoped for the best. The whole "it was deliberate and M$ r sukzor" thing is, to me, VERY hard to believe. I think MS just rushed the system in the first place.

If 360's were built to break, then they would have an amazing failure rate...

Hehe.. let's see who gets that one 8)

Thought?

NextGenNow

While your theory is conspiracy lathed, I do feel that there is  major issue whether it be intentional or shoddy craftsmanship.  I defended M$ May when I got my May manufactured console.  It is officially one year old tomorrow, and it has started freezing and clicking on me.  Supposedly, according to the forums, this means I am one step away from the red rings of death.  If my 360 dies on me, I am NOT replacing it, because this is F'ing BS.  Especially, because I am over warranty on a non-launch console which means M$ wont do anything to help me.
