It seems to me that this whole 3D TV, 3D Gaming, 3D anything is being hated on, because Sony is one of the main supporters of the technology.

Also, its getting the same kind of hate HDTV's and Blu-Ray, DVD, and any new technology got.

-OMG It will be sooo expansive... yea so were DVD's, so was Blu-Ray, and so were (and for the best quality still are) HDTV's.

-No Support. OMG only 2 channels will support 3D at launch... HDTV Channels bearly got any support, and most are still in SD..but slowly making the transition.

-It's a gimmick. Just like motion controls, natal, eyetoy, and everything that tries to be new. amirite?

Basically these 3 arguments, any new tech has gotten. Now let's look at some other complaints.

- OMG I don't want to wear 3D glasses. 3D Tvs will not require the use of glasses.

- OMG I'll have to sit at a perfect angle to be able to see anything. I'm pretty sure companies would invest $100s of millions of dollars into a technology that's inconvenient to use.

- 3D is cool in theaters. Keep it out of my home. I guess we should also keep games in the arcade ;) Slippery slope.

This techonlogy is very new. It's getting major support from the electronic giants. It's the future. By 2020 i predict we'll have a Natal/3D hybrids or interfaces, which will make the line between reality and digital worlds smaller and smaller. We're already seeing Augmented Reality on our smart phones, and although they suck as of today, I for one am very excited for the future.

True 3D gaming here we come :D

I don't know, Nvidia are supporting it as well and were the first to get it on the market.

Maybe some people just don't like 3D or think other things are more important. I mean i don't care about it much as i have very poor eye sight in one eye so the effect doesn't even work properly for me, so its def not on my list of "things i want".

3D is really awesome. Watch Avatar in 3D ...... then come back. Just imagine interacting with 3D games. Natal + 3D = Future of Gaming. Whether people like it or not gaming will transition from the controller to hands free. Imagine having a 3D fight with Mike Tyson in Fight Night.

If this is the case then, on this forum, it would get a lot of love. Some people either hate on it because they are not used to it or have legit reasons. Personally I have a problem with it because some games give me motion sickness but I have no problem with other people being able using it.

I'm sure that for a few people thats probably true. But the majority of the doubters probably have better reasoning. In my lifetime, most attempts at "3D" failed. So a lot of people are going to be doubtful of it.

Yes most attempts failed in the past. But look at technology today, versus technology 10 years ago, or 20 years ago. Computational power doubles every 18 months, new breakthroughs in science every day. 3D has a really good chance at being awesome this time around

Doesn't mean we can't get decent 3D in the near/distant future.

Watching movies in 3D has come a long way and it has became more and more popular in the past year, so the tech is already improved. Can't see any reasons on why it can't be implemented in gaming.

Go watch a 3D movie from 20 years ago, and then watch one from 2010. Compare the two.

3-D was a gimmick in the 50's, and it's being re-hashed as a gimmick now... people are bashing it because it's lame, and because the novelty-factor wears off after seeing it in action a couple of times...

I don't hate it, I just don't care for it. I think the time spent developing 3D could be spent developing other technology that will actually effect how we play video games. 3D technology is only going to effect how we visualize them, I would rather have a game the is more interactive and stimulating then something in 3D.

It's mostly because who wants to buy 3DHD-TVs when HD-TVs aren't the total standard now?

I still use a Standard TV and hope to upgrade to an HD now but right now I'm just going to have to share the living room's HD TV.

oh and the 3DTVs need glasses. That's cool but I think it's just not ready now.

Yes that is the only explanation. And Sony doesn't own 3D so there's really no reason to hate.

lol, i think you may be looking into it too much TC. The tech is not restricted to Sony, PS3 or any other platform. Maybe people just have issues with the fact that they would have to get yet ANOTHER HDTV. 3D gaming isnt exclusive to sony, no reason for Sony haters to hate 3D for that reason. No need to get so defensive ;)

KukicAdo

If there is one thing that summarizes my criticism of the hype Sony has generated for stereoscopic 3D; it is that little bit there. I literally face palmed in real life because of that bit.

I've had people preach to me, preach, about how it is going to revolutionize gaming while "I" was already using it years prior. They have the cheek to try to "educate" me on why it is so special while I have well used shutter LCD glasses gathering dust in the corner.

It irritates me that a gimmick I grew bored of before the PS3 was even announced is now the next big thing; and if I disagree with these claims I'm just a hater

I've actually had people argue my experience doesn't count because it wasn't as "standardized" and "widely supported" as it is being now. Translation, the console market didn't know this technology was available because someone didn't spent millions to make sure they knew about it. Now that they are it suddenly matters.

I don't hate it, I've just seen it fail in the past over and over. Until I see it actually work at home without having to wear stupid glasses I will be a skeptic. It has nothing to do with Sony. Although they are trying to push it as the next big thing only available on teh cell.

Sony doesn't even deserve much credit for 3d at this point in time:

Nvidia already had it out on PC markets

a Samsung TV and ATI have Gears of War working in 3d.

3d is only getting a lot of love because Sony partakes in it, just like Blu-Ray.

Your Blu-Ray vs. DVD cost is also invalid.

Blu-Ray in essence, is a DVD, of higher quality and more storage space. The DVD- Blu-Ray jump is a lot less significant to VHS-DVD, as VHS is an analog technology.

HDDVD was already down to DVD price when it was around PLUS they were double-side with DVD and HDDVD. Now BDA is going to try to copy a dead format with their flipper disks, priceless.

Blu-Ray is currently a manipulation to consumers, being that the production costs have come down, but the prices don't seem to reflect it immediately.

DVD prices are too high right now too, but we can thank the movie studios for that.

Samsung and Panasonic are right there with their 3d cameras and TV's though, both of which associate with games much less. Panasonic was co-developer of Blu-Ray, but you never hear about them.

sort of. Current games are supported. Sony has Motorstorm already working and a firmware update takes care of the rest of the games.

Gears of War already works in 3d as well, which is a 2006 game.

On the 3d TV thing, you are correct. Most likely a 2 grand price tag. Only benefit I'm seeing is cheaper standard HDTVs or whatever you like to call them.

3D is getting a lot of hate as it is being marketed as the next best thing when it clearly isn't.

3D shutter glasses have been around for years for PC games. It's just not all that impressive playing games in 3D really, nor necessary.

But... if you want to waste your money on Sony/Nvidia products to have this effect... go for it... I'm sure you won't be so impressed though, and will probablly not even bother with the 3D after a while. Straining your eyes all the time isn't that fun.

i think my main issue is them pushing new tv's. i spent alot of money on my tv and it has a very hz rate, but its not 3d compatible for what sonys trying to push. i love my ps3 but im not trading in my already expensive tv for something smaller and costlier just to game in 3d. they failed me as a consumer, they realistically could've done it with BC for tv's 120hz+ which are becoming more and more the norm, but they chose to instead try to push a new 3d tv on people. they're creating a product and telling people they need this product when in reality the same thing could be accomplished to the consumer for far less $ and sony would have a higher install base....

But was it in IMAX 3D. I saw it in IMAX 3D and i was amazed. But that also could have been because it was the first 3D movie Id ever seen. Back on topic - if they do make some games that are already released 3D they better give the upgrade for free..................

[QUOTE="KukicAdo"]

3DTV's DO need glasses :|

Meh I don't think it's gonna be as good as people claiming it to be. They are claiming it's gonna be like the transition from 2D to 3D

I think there are TVs that don't need the glasses, but you'd have to fork over 20 thou. From what I've read so far.

3d is a gimmick? My god, I just saw avatar and its CGI and 3d effects were amazing.

Here is the problem... you are comparing a movie on a huge screen made for a 3D experience, to games being played on a TV not designed for a 3D experience.

Also, with 3D movies, you go and see them from time to time... with what Sony/Nvidia is trying to market, you are going to want to play all your games in 3D all the time.

Do you really want to be wearing 3D glasses for all your entertainment?

It really just isn't all that impressive playing games in 3D. You can't compare it to a movie experience on a big screen.
