Platformers rule.
Because they define the video game.
They are what video games are about.
You can do whatever you want.
Video games are to explore a world that is not real. To be somebody else.
No other genre can convey that is good as a platformer.
It encourages exploration.
You can always go anywhere you want to go.
You can always just play around.
You are free!
Even if there's an objective, you are not forced to complete it right away.
You can go overhere instead, see what's there.
You can mess around.
The enviroment is always made to explore.
And there's variety.
It can be in an Arab village.
A jungle.
A haunted mansion.
In a snowy world.
On a swamp with a giant metallic shark.
On a city.
Even on outer space.
It's a trait that no other genre can do properly.
It's not about violence.
Not about story.
It's about f-u-n.
FUN.
It opens the door to art, possibilities, and suprise.
It makes you feel like a kid again.
On a world of linear shooters and short shallow minigames.
It's always good to know the platformer is still around.
