Good thing I can go out and play them for myself and make a sound decistion rather then letting commercials tell me what to buy. The PS Vita is amazing tech for the price the 3DS was outdated as hell as soon as it launched. SilverSterls

Smells like damage control to me.

Too right, mate. I bet flame shield can't repel fire power of that magnitude.

Why does Sony do this? Really, besides the Kevin Butler ads Sony marketing (for the gaming division at least) has been complete ASS CRUST for years now. Marketing seems to be Sonys biggest issue sometimes. They make good stuff, but when will they learn how to properly show it off to the public?
I haven't seen any hype for Vita anywhere. No commercials, no media events, no promotions of any kind. Sony desperately needs to start generating interest in their system.meetroid8uuh taco bell is giving away free vitas in exchange for giving you diarrhea

It ALMOST sounds like a fair trade.
Almost.

The taco bell adds are everywhere and although I do agree they could do a better job marketing the product I doubt it will have a hard time selling the launch systems.
That Nintendo ad is a prime example of how to do it. Show what your selling! It's really not that difficult. todd2rYou mean like this ? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-C5cY9oLKYg

Its a new gaming device from Sony. Some people are going to buy it of course. Still though, they have done an awful job of generating buzz and while the launch systems could probably sell with zero marketing it still doesn't bode well for the future of the system. Sony really needs to push this thing.
I've never seen a 3DS commercial on TV. Do they only show it on Cartoon Network and Oxygen? senses_fail_06
Still LOL'ing, well played.
On topic now, why is everybody obsessed with marketing suddenly? The fact that you talk about it means it's working, seems like it's trying to be disruptive. While the blurb released is pretty bare and does little to educate audiences what the hell a Vita is, it's still no crying demon baby doll commercial Sony made for the PS3. And that was full length ad, we haven't yet seen the remainder of the teaser released.

The most promotion I've seen here are empty demo stations in the shopping mall -- and that's saying something considering it's in downtown Toronto ...

No, thats just stating the obvious - people who are heavily invested in gaming know about all the new talk of software and hardware. No one outside of the heavily invested gaming market knows about what the Vita is and that's pathetic.
Really Sony? What is with you and these commercials? You had cool PS2 commercials.nintendoboy16Not that this is a particularly good campaign, although I'll reserve judgement until I see a full ad, but I imagine ads aired from bygone eras would receive the same reaction nowadays, anyway. Particularly, ads that are too abstract.
"Mountain" for the "Fun, anyone?" PS2 campaign won awards at the time, for example, but I'm sure would be met with scorn.
Meanwhile that one line she delivers reminds me of "Double Life" an ad I actually quite liked.
Strangely, I don't think they've changed agencies. Although TBWA may only act for SCEE. The Kevin Butler series was done by Deutsch Inc, so this may be by them as well.

Haven't seen this commercial, but it pretty much nailed it. It does seem to fit in with this theme.
I don't know man, I wouldn't mind a Vita all of a sudden:

It's quite an old commercial, circa 1999, I believe. From this brief clip, it sort of looks like an American-ised version of that ad's theme. Although, I don't know how well that bodes...
Also from looking into this a bit I've found out that both "Double Life" and "Mountain" were made by the same director, Frank Budgen.
Interestingly, he directed ads for the 360 at the start of the gen: "Jump Rope" and Water Balloon".
Most people seems to have forgotten that when the 3DS launched, most people thought that it was just a DS with 3D effects.
Better than to make Vita ads that DON'T even talk about the Vita AT ALL.Most people seems to have forgotten that when the 3DS launched, most people thought that it was just a DS with 3D effects.
