a) The 3DS is not 270 Euros in Europe. Shops offer it for as cheap as 185 Euros. b) Why would you buy a 3DS from the US? c) The 3DS is region locked, and we've known this for over a year.

A lot of reasons. Offer and demand, tradition, comparison to other electronics, taxes, etc etc etc. It's nothing new, it's quite common.

Yea that really sucks. They always pull that one on us.
if something costs 170 dollars, they will set it at 170€ over here, which is actually like 230 dollars worth.

It truly blows.

Nintendo of Europe NEVER announced a price for the 3DS in Europe, and they left it to retailers to price it themselves. In fact, immediately after the announcement of the 3DS's release date, a price war broke out among European retailers. http://spong.com/article/23578/Nintendo-3DS-Price-War-Breaks-Out-in-Europe If you can link me to one place where the 3DS is sold for 270 Euros...

Maybe because you earn more in Europe?

Higher standards of living, higher demand for luxuries, etc.

270 sounds really high for europe. It costs 299 CHF in Switzerland which is now ~250 Euro or ~350$, and I thought this price is high especially when considering the strong Swiss franc at the moment.

Okay, that is very high, yes. It's a robbery. I can see your point man. Have you tried looking at some other stores? Like I said, the 3DS doesn't have a fixed price, so you might find some other stores that are selling it foe much cheaper and/or with bundles as well.

I don't know where you live. Like what country?

Right now, for example, Amazon UK has the 3DS available for 180 Pounds. That's roughly 220 Euros, right?

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Nintendo-Handheld-Console-Aqua-Blue/dp/B004ISLDUG/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1310383712&sr=8-1

If you could tell me which country you live in, I'd be able to help you better.

And no, I don't think there's any point in reporting this to Nintendo- remember, they did not fix any price for the 3DS, so theoretically, a shop could charge a thousand bucks if it wanted to.

In Romania, most large electronics retailers sell the 3DS for 1299 RON which is about 307 EUR. But nobody forces you to buy from them, you can get new ones a lot cheaper from Internet forums, as long as you're willing to take a bit of a chance and you don't mind the lack of any warranty. I bought mine for 150 EUR, brand new, by mail, so I took a lot of chances, but it was as perfectly sealed as one you would get in the stores. Just no warranties and no questions asked about its provenience.

$464.99 New Zealand dollars is the cheapest I can buy the 3ds. If I add $40 to that I could buy a 360 elite. Total rip off.

Huh, We sweds are usually unlucky with the price of all new systems, but the 3DS can be bought online from a few sites for only 1999 kr (about $309 / 220 euro). I remember when PS3 came out and it was 6000 kr ($930). I didn't buy one :P But then again, we have much bigger paychecks, the average paycheck in sweden is 23 000 kr (about $3560 or $2390 after taxes).

1. As many has said, Europe tends to be more competitive in prices compared to the more capitalistic-United States (weird huh? Nope, Corporations control everything over here) so prices tend to start high but lower down pretty quickly, especially in more Urban areas of Europe. Local Price Wars! 2. VAT, Sales Tax, and other fees are included in the final price tag in most EU countries while in the US, all these are not in the price tag. 3. Income in many European countries tend be more luxurious? Perhaps while in the United States (Our Government barely does anything but invest in Defense Spending and Give out Corporate Handouts) so for a lot of people, the income is required to buy the basic things for life and other things, like over-priced private Health Insurance and the such. 4. The United States tends to be a larger market, so the cheaper price is in effort to sell more. In addition, trade laws in the US tend to be more openish compared to the EU and other countries. A few trade agreements here and there. 5. May I say more? lol
