Would you rather buy a PS3 with backwards compatibility for $499 or get a PS3 for $399 without backwards compatibility and state why. I would rather get a PS3 for $399 with no BC because I own a PS2 and I don't play many PS2 games anymore and rarely play PS1 games.joeamis
well mostgamers own a PS2 so the 40GB makes sense

Ask them that when thier PS2 breaks from some accident......what will they play thier games on then? If I owned any reasonable amount of PS2 games I'd get the one that has BC just in case.

i don't think it will affect most gamers in general. Only hard core gamers and game collectors who I expect will know what's up and decide if the extra $100 is worth it. They can always just buy the 40gb version now and buy the BC version later on when their ps2 breaks and it's cheaper years later(if they still care about ps2 games).Â[QUOTE="AskForDetails"][QUOTE="joeamis"]Would you rather buy a PS3 with backwards compatibility for $499 or get a PS3 for $399 without backwards compatibility and state why. Well most PS2's have already suffered breaking and have been gotten rid of or repaired. I have a repaired one. So the amount of PS2's that will break from this point on will be low. For the small amount of people who have something happen they can get themselves a brand new PS2 Slim for probably $100 or less by that time in the future. I'd rather get the non BC for $100 less now and if anything happened, which is unlikely, be able to get myself a nice PS2 Slim for less than that $100 in the future when you consider inflation. And that would also put less wear and tear on my PS3 if I play PS2 games on my PS2. Another plus is that I'd have another system in my collection and I could easily bring the PS2 Slim with me to friends houses etc because its tiny.
40 GB.
I have a good working slim PS2 *Knocks on wood* so I can still play my PS2 games. Plus it's not even that many anyway. It's just God of War, Kingdom Hearts, and Metal Gear.

I think the PS3 without the BC is really just for people that want to play PS3 games without paying $500 for it. I personally think it's a good idea. I mean, it's not as lame as a certain low-end version of another console. (I'm looking at you, Xbox 360 Core System.)
P.S. I would prefer the $499 version with BC, however.
Neither. My PS2 broke a while back, so if I did buy a PS3 (not likely) I would have to go for the $500. I am never going to pay that much for a system....ever.
But, if you want a new perspective....This holiday season shoppers can get a Wii (maybe), MP3, SMG, SSBB, 100% b/c all for the same price of the gimped PS3.
I'll get the 40 gig PS3 because my PS2 works fine jasonharris48
Same here. I have enough room in my center to leave the PS2.
$499.99 is the way to go. The 40GB SKU isn't even worth $300.BioShockOwnz
Blu-ray playback, PS3 game compatibility, PS1 BC, 40GB, Wi-fi =/= worth $300? :?
and rarely play PS1 games.joeamis
40gig plays Ps1 games btw.(and they will probably add ps2 BC via a firmware update eventually)
With. Why would they take BC out? Honestly. Aren't they going to do software emulation anyways?Wasdie
No. The euro 60gig and US 80gigs still have the ps2 GPU in them, just not the CPU. The 40gig doesn't have the GPU.
For only the price of a PS2 you can get BC for all your PS2 games, so if you have a broken one, obviously the way to go. If you have a well working PS2 the cheaper is the way to go unless you want the be sure you can always play PS2 games.
Personally I'd love a 399 with BC >.> but for now I'll say 499 version
