just No. Read OP please. But you posting PS3 exclusives is fine? Okay, whatever you say little Cow...
sorry gunther maybe i should have clarified: 1. Demons Souls - Brings online RPG that no other game brought 2. Infamous - Turned FPS into electricPS 3. Uncharted 2 - Cinematic gaming like never before seen 4. Resistance 2 - insane out of this world gunplay in a genre pool full of Official rifles 5. Killzone 2 - seamless integration of mission types for MP that keep changing during gameplay. all these titles brought amazing innovation into the industry and at a time when standards are way high. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (innovative targeting/lock-on system, set the bar high for adventure games that has yet to be matched) Superzone
5 games are too narrow, but i'll give it a try. here comes:
Doom : wolfenstein3d are the first person shooter, but Doom revolutionized it in every way. it alsoopened the multiplayer gaming madness, long before counter strike.
Super Mario: this was the basic in platform gaming. it always gets better and better in each system (Super Mario World, Mario Sunshine, Mario Galaxy).
Everquest : you'll never get your real life back ever again.
Tomb Raider : the game that launched a character that appeal everyone, even non-gamers.
Resident Evil : horror survival gaming at its best.
1) Spacewar -- First videogame ever.
1) Pong --- The first game that made its way to wide distribution. The success of Pong led to the birth of the first sets of game developers who made some of the very first games and/or consoles.
2) Pac-Man --First game to become extremely popular on an international level. There was a time when Japan had a shortage of coins because everyone spent them playing Pac-Man. Led to the great chip shortage in 1983. The USA was crazy about the game as well.
4) Wolfenstein 3D -- The first game of the First Person Shooter genre (Honerable mention goes to Myst)
5) Alpha Waves -- First 3D platformer.
Super Mario World - Obvious reasons.
Dune II - First modern real-time strategy game. Precursor to strategy games such as C&C, Starcraft and Warcraft
Doom - Obvious reasons.
EverQuest - It's a toss-up between this and Ultima, but I think EverQuest is the game that pumped life into the MMO genre.
Resident Evil - popularizing survival-horror
I liked ur inclusion of gta 3 in there. I think people forget how much it changed the open world genre. And how its mission structure is still widely used today.
[QUOTE="ArisShadows"]I find your lack of Star Craft disturbing.AncientDozerIt's true, Starcraft is significant in that a lot of people play it and like it but otherwise there isn't anything especially revolutionary about it save, maybe, for battle.net and the map editing tools. I'm not too sure I'd attribute battle.net to Starcraft, though. Still, a game doesn't need to be revolutionary and it's true that in some places Starcraft is treated like a sport. It is tricky. StarCraft basically changed the way people think about RTS games. I'd say that's fairly significant.
[QUOTE="mayceV"]what no halo? thet revolutionized console FPS's.... Shad0ki11
How'd it revolutionize console FPS? Rechargeable shield? :|
The controls were a significant improvement, for one. The way it played helped. There'd never been another FPS quite like it on a console before. Just look at console shooters since and you'll see the influence.Pac Man - (not my favorite but it brought video games to the masses)
Super Mario Brothers - (probably single handedly saved the industry from collapse after Atari destroyed it)
7th Guest - (The first real playable game on CD-ROM, the visuals were mind blowing for the time. It probably sold more CD-ROM drives for computers than any other reason at the begining of the CD-ROM era)(guess a mention must go out to Myst, but 7th Guest was first)
Doom - (It started so many things, FPS, multiplayer, deathmatch, shareware try before you buy, etc.)
Grand Theft Auto - (Started open world gameplay)
There may have been other games before the above mentioned games that might have had some of the features first, but the games on the above list revolutionized their respective areas. Of course just my opinion.
