VF5 was out for 2 days in some places and 3 days in others in Japan and hit #1 on the list. Take next week's sales, divide by 2 and you'll get a rough estimate (a little less) of the first week of VF5's Japanese sales. It'll probably be over 100k, that number looks familiar right? Yeah if you noticed DOA4 sold a little over 100k in Japan....in the past year and a half. I dont know about how you guys look at numbers, but coming from a business student who does math daily:

100k in 7 days > 100k in 450+ days

Just a link to clarify the release time:

http://www.psxextreme.com/ps3-news/833.html

So please, please stop comparing the sales of the two.  Whether it's due to M$' low userbase in Japan or not, VF5 is selling much better there.  I haven't played either games, the only fighting games I play are the Tekkens and SSB.  According to Famitsu DOA4 was a better game than VF5 is, which could very well be true, don't ask me, I'm just talking about sales figures here.

Someone will come in here with some fuzzy math for you...

I mean, since Keith Courage and the Alpha Zones sold a lot of copies for a smaller TurboGrafx16 userbase, that means it's better than Super Mario Brothers 3, right? The percentage of TG16 owners that have KC is more than the percentage of the NES userbase that owns SMB3...

So based on that percentage, am I right, or what?

*Goes to play Keith Courage* You do realize KC was packaged with the original TG16 right? Its kind of like Wiisports >_> Anyway, 50K in 3 days for a fighter in Japan = WHAT?! BAD

I clearly gave you the link stating that the release date in some places in Japan was Feb 8th and in others it was Feb 9th for VF5. They sold 49k as of Feb 11th (2 - 3 days later). DOA4 may have sold 62k in four days, but unless theres daily sales listed for VF5 we will never know for sure if it outsold DOA4's 62k in the same period. My guess is hell yeah what's 13k in 1 day when it just sold 49k in 3? As far as DOA4's overall sales: http://www.vgcharts.org/japcomp.php?name1=Virtua+Fighter+5&name2=Dead+Or+Alive+4 (if someone has a complaint with VGCharts, prove it wrong, but otherwise I see their numbers are even consistent with what XtinctionAgenda claims)

When lemmings bragged about the sales of Dead Rising, cows responded with "but teh good sales are because teh Xflop 1.5 doesn't have any other good games". Just thought I'd point that out

Could that also be why almost 1 out of every 3 Japanese 360 owners own DOA4? The logic is consistent.

The sales charts are weekly, yes it is the 15th but we're into the next week after these numbers have been recorded. We will see records of sales for the past 4 days and the next 3 in the next weekly sales chart releasing sometime after Feb 18th (the end of the next recorded week).

Who cares about the Japanese sales figures? All the reviews that I have read so far for VF5 are extremely positive. If you are a PS3 owner & like fighting games, this is a no-brainer!

The point does make sense. And it definitaly could be a factor as to why the VF5 sales are doing pretty well for a userbase of this size. I mean what else do the Japanese have to play on PS3....R:FoM isn't exactly their type of game, and Genji, RR7, and Gundam didn't exactly make stunning debuts.

It could be a valid point, but cows think differently now that VF5 is selling well

weekly sales are from Feb5th - Feb 11th

VF5 launched on the 8th

so in 3 days, it sold 50,000. pretty good if you ask me.

Last weekend, yes. The sales chart that I have linked covers Feb 5 - 11 which includes Saturday and Sunday.

Can't help but wonder at that term 'damage control'. Since no 'damage' is done to the X360, his post wouldn't really qualify as 'damage control' would it?

No, they are too busy compiling the data for the last week to include the data from the current weekend, especially since it isn't all in when they are working on the sales data.
