It's a rough estimate. Last December they had actually had 10 million shipped. It was a news article on Gamespot and started a heated debate between what's sold to consumers and what's sold to retailers.
Amazing that a company just in its second gen of gaming experience could make this much of an impact on the videogame industry. Microsoft definitely is a true pioneer in gaming.
