6 Reasons Microsoft will win with the Xbox One

After reading some of the threads of this forum the last week I think you guys need some clarification: this is the only place in the world where people delusionally think Microsoft is "dead". Let me clear some things up for you:

1. Xbox One has better games + more exclusives.

This should go without saying, but its going to be the same as this generation all over again; third party titles will look and play better on the Xbox console.

2. Future proofed Steam-esque gaming platform will lead to more + cheaper games

Many developers are going to be scared off by having to sell their games for standardised prices in Gamestop, the XBone will benefit from allowing publishers to sell at whatever price they want through Xbox Live, and not worry about gamestop exploiting their work by encouraging resales. This will attract more third party exclusives and lead to cheaper games.

3. The PS4 is only more powerful on paper

This point is just dumb; we should not talk of the PS4 being more powerful until its confirmed by Microsoft. All the games shown so far look just as good if not better than the PS4 games shown. We also have to look historically at what platforms multiplats have looked the best on:

6th Generation: Sony 3rd Nintendo 2nd Microsoft 1st
7th Generation: Sony 2nd Nintendo 3rd Microsoft 1st
8th Generation: Sony ??? Nintendo 3rd Microsoft ???

In this case well have to go with Mark Twains famous words that History always repeats itself, instead of basing it round specs. Lets not forget that PS3 was on paper better than the 360, but it got absolutely annihilated in the multiplats department.

4. The PS4 is only cheaper at the interregion level

Again on paper its cheaper. But when were talking about bang for your buck, the X1 beats the PS4 trousers down. The fact youre getting a $200 cutting edge camera bundled into the X360 for FREE should be enough reason for those good with economics.

PS4 is only cheaper interregionally, but if we buy from a foreign country like Europe or the British Isles it works out more expensive. It isnt consistently cheaper across the board. You may think this is a stupid point but in fact youd be completely wrong. Why? Because the PS4 is expected to be SOLD OUT meaning people will be FORCED to buy a XB1, or impact a PS4 for an even higher price than the domestic X1 price.

5. Xbox has Kinect

You instantly have more out of the box options for how to play. Yes to hardcore gamers like many on this board it may seem useless, but lets not forget that over 50% of people class themselves as casual gamers, who dont just want Kinect; they need it.

6. MS is in a much, much better financial position

Lets not forget that MS has a hell of a lot of money stored away in a stable currency (unlike the Japanese Yen). Sony is getting pounded by a volatile currency, cheaper electronics from China/Korea and 5 years from a demographic catastrophe. MS is in a much better position to support the X1 going forward.

May be you guys should have off your sofas and see what other people are saying before jumping to such ridiculous conclusions about the death of Microsoft. Let's not forget MS are the only ones to turn a profit on their gaming branch the last 2 years, they know what they're doing and they know how to survive.

To be honest, not really reasonable as to why they will  win.

No. Sony has a wider portfolio of developers under their wings; third party games being superior on the Xbox One is unlikely given the hardware advantage the Playstation 4 has over the Xbox One. This generation will once again be multiplatform heavy, but with higher emphasis on free-to-play and DD titles. The Xbox has more exclusives now, but who knows how long that will last. If this last generation is anything to judge, starting strong and slowly giving way to the tried and true doesn't look good.

No. In the previous generetion, there was untapped power that wasn't practical to reach out because of the other limitations on the system. The Playstation 4 has overt advantages with respect to the hardware that will (or should) yeild tangible differences assuming the effort is put in.

Thanks for the well thought out response. I'm glad you agree with me on point 4, I think that is going to be the main way that they win; by making a shed load more money. It really completely outweight any potential counterarguments people might have on the other points. What cows tend to forget is that winners are determined by profits, not AAAE's.

1. That is a matter of opinion, I prefer PS4 exclusives over xbox ones.

2. The indies don't seem to think so, Steam has in fact saved the pc gaming industry by promoting games we would have never thought of otherwise. "I'm sorry that Steam enables small gaming companies to compete agenst corporate giants and that offends you but its good for the gaming industry as a whole".

3. PC gamers know more shaders, clock speed, etc eventually adds up to a much better visually aesthetic product. More power = more AI/Graphics/multitasking hands down. There is NO refuting that. Anyone who does, doesn't know what they are talking about. In any case, I didnt see Sony fans saying "it only looks good on paper" last gen. They knew from the get go the Xbox was going to be more powerful. "The excuses Microsoft fans come up with become sadder and sadder every day".

4. The camera is the defining factor why I do not want the Xbox. I'm happy for you that you enjoy giving out your information but not me. And before you say I'm some sort of paranoid fool, I can give you many references by trusted companies who are actively doing this "Verizon anyone?" AND lets not forget all those new bills that encourage this. I wouldn't be surprised the camera was built for that feature alone. ALSO Those who buy an xbox because PS4 is sold out should get their heads examined, if you want something wait for it. It wont be long before it comes back in stock. I would rather wait till the holidays are over anyway so I don't get distracted by playing games when I could have better spent the time with friends and family.

5. Kinect is the most gimmicky thing I have ever seen. What has Kinect done that really matters in the gaming industry so far? NA'DA... I don't want a product to be forced on me when I don't want it in the first place.

6. MS in a better financial position because of the choices of the people left before Windows 8. The strategies used to gain Microsoft profit the past few years has been despicable. I have seen a new wave of market strategy with Microsoft that people are starting to really dislike which is "Forceful product pushing". I guess gamers are gonna soon learn, you can have all the money in the world and that wont make you a better product.

When it comes to gaming, Microsoft isn't going anywhere. I think people should have grown to realize that by now BUT I will say this. With the ever evolving Linux operating system and open GL rendering system. Windows and Directx have their days numbered "which is the backbone of Xbox consoles" unless they start weight their decisions towards a more "people" friendly market, I don't see them as something worth purchasing.

As a 3d modeler in the industry, I know of many people who already make products that already match the fidelity of Windows and Directx, they better get their act together.

1. Opinions everywhere. There is no guarentee that Microsoft has the better games. From what I can see Sony has a much more desirable lineup of 1st party, 3rd party, and indie games. 

2. Sony has already done a bang up job with DD with over 50% of content sold on the Vita being downloaded through their store. DRM has nothing to do with that, it's all presentation and ease of access.

3. The PS4 is more powerful on paper and more powerful in the real world. You have 2 identical processors with 2 GPUs that are of very similar built with one having 50% more shader units than the other. The PS4 also has faster ram without having to rely on a cache of ESRAM. 

This isn't some debate between two machines that are using really odd hardware like last gen. These are two machines that are built with much more common hardware that we can see the direct benchmarks of right away. There is no speculating. The PS4 is more powerful and that's a fact. 

4. You may be getting a good camera with the Xbox One but since it's tied to the console via hardline it's uses are few and far between. The PS4 is cheaper for better hardware becuase they've made better decisions on how to manufacture the machine as well as package it. They realize that bundling a camera would be pointless because in the context of gaming it's very situational. Instead they bundled a standard microphone that won't pick up the entire room and doesn't need to be plugged in constantly.

5. Having Kinect is a nice bonus but not a $100 extra bonus. It's very situational and there is no way to know that the people who purchased Kinect are going to jump all over a $500 machine to play the newest version of Just Dance. 

6. Microsoft is in a better financial position but there isn't a division of Microsoft that screwing up. Their tablets have been a complete disaster, Windows 8 has been severely under performing, and now their game's division is in deep shit. When Sony started in 2006 they were in a great financial position but now they aren't looking so hot. A lot can change. Sony's financial position didn't sell PS3s. 

I've seen what other people are saying. Major media outlets like Forbes and the Washington Post are ripping into Microsoft. Across social media like Facebook and Twitter there has been a visible outrage by Microsoft fans over the Xbox One. These things spread like wildfire and it's only been a few weeks. They cannot just recover from such a PR disaster. 

I'm not saying Sony is going to mop the floor with Microsoft but a week after E3 they are going stronger than ever and are riding a massive wave of great publicity. These are things the Playstation 3 never had. Sony is doing a fantastic job of not pissing off their own fans while appealing to fans of other companies who may feel let down.

All this hate is going to make consumers say you know what .... fu haters, I am going to buy the Xbox One. The reason is nobody likes a bully.

Haha, if you believe that you are truly delusional. Xbone is going to tank even harder than PS3 did when it launched and I personally don't see Microsoft ever recovering like Sony did. Sony actually has a legitimate fanbase.

Another thing I'd like to point out is that the majority of cool games to come out on these next gen systems are online games. i.e. The Division, Witcher 3, Destiny, Elder Scrolls ONLINE, Battlefield 4/ Killzone(dont tell me you buy it just for single player). You say it's less than you make it out to be but wait until you sit down and find you cannot play because your authentication didn't work. A completely unnecessary step that could prevent you from using the machine from time to time. You can try to defend this step and say it will never happen, but you cannot deny it's utterly pointless and has no benefit for you the gamer.

Do you ever wonder why the PC has alternatives to Steam? Things like Green Man Gaming and Good Old Games where you can get games completley DRM free. Even Steam has its share of issues despite working 99.9% of the time. Issues that could be easily avoided by just getting rid of the DRM all together.
