Dumb. Dumb. Dumb.
But the 600 model does come with a game. As opposed to me who paid 600 and only got the console. Not a bad deal, and its not a new model its just a bundle with 20 more gigs.
yeah, its old. Where is that HA! coming from? As a 360 owner i am sure you have read the article that came out recently saying ALL 11 million 360s, including yours and mine, have a fatal flaw that could lead to system failure. Not some, but ALL. Echo13791And..I'm sure you got the memo that said you WON'T pay to have it fixed....
Sorry this is ridiculous if it's true.
First off it makes no sense what so ever.....this is defintely a misunderstanding. I mean, isn't this new skew for $600 a Limited Edition?
Does this mean Sony has basically thrown in the towel and given up? After their limited edition they don't have a console to sale rofl. It's really dumb to say you have to pay for all that extra crap or you can't get a PS3. I'm sorry I just can't believe this....basically they are giving up on this gen if this is true. X360 with all it's flawed hardware is looking better than this.
What's up with all these PS3 "dying" SKUs?
Promoting then retiring, promoting then retiring! WTF! I thought MS was worst.

As a so called 360 owner that you keep telling everyone you really like talking about the bad with the 360. You have been saying the same thing in almost every thread you have been in as a counter for the recent PS3 news. MS is atleast trying to address the problem which deserves some credit and we dont have to pay to fix it so why the constant complaining.
This is sounding more like a misunderstanding than anything really. It seens like Reeves got the wrong memo or readed it wrong. The actual 60GB PS3 with the EE will be out, definetelly (maybe this is the one that will, indeed, be finished). The 60GB SKU without it will continue, or at least I espect to keep going. I may be wrong, or may be right. If Im correct, good move. If not, bad move from Sony.
PS- Interesting enough, after a good E3 for Sonyall the haters are looking into every way to dowplay it. Chill out. Sony will continue to get bad press no matter what, even when they do something good. But, oh well, haters will be haters. Fanboys will be fanboys and so on.

I guess people don't pay attention. There is a difference the 80gig PS3 is actually cheaper for Sony to make, as they said the 80gig PS3 doesn't have the Emotion Engine chip the 20gig and 60gig have, this chip referes to the chip that was the PS2 GPU, so instead of using that to get game backwards compatible with that SKU the will be using emulation software which is cheaper, you can almost image "copying and pasting" a program rather than building each individual chip to work all the time for PS3, also software means more room for flexability or hardware (chip). The 80gig when it launches in US on Aug 1st comes in a limited edition bundle with Motorstorm for $599. So you put in the fact that it's cheaper to make and that the fact that Motorstorm in the package is limited, once they drop Motorstorm out, then the price will go down again. Maybe for like the 3 months between Aug and Dec the PS3 will be $600 but at least you get a free game. If you remember Capcom said they expect Sony to drop the price again this year, I think come the holidays they will do so for real because all PS3's from then are going to cost less for them to make. And game companies only drop prices when they lower production costs. We already know it's cheaper to make the blu idodes or what ever for blu-ray.

I agree this has to be a misunderstanding. I mean the new sku is a special edition which be the very defintion means there are only a certain amount of these being made....once they sale out that's it. That is why all Limited Editions have regular editions to complement them........no matter what I've NEVER seen someone be forced to buy extra accessories.
Anyways if they really are discountinuing the 60 gig, then once they run out of the Special Edition they have no console to sale to people anymore. Yeah that makes sense, specially when they are finally getting games.......they make no more consoles? Either Sony is run by a bunch of monkeys or this is a misunderstanding.
Heck I was thinking X360 was done with the current state of their hardware....with this info I now believe Sony is going to lose and lose BADLY.
If they kill off the 60gb the WTF ARE THE EUROPEANS SUPPOSED TO DO???
We aren't getting the 80gb so are we going to be left with no PS3s?

lol you better pray that you are right because I really really dont understand this move.
I wouldnt pray for such things. And I dont understand such move as well. Its stupid. Why do it and make the media jump downon your throats? Its fishy, at the very least. Some guys already said that it is cheaper to produce the 80GB SKU, because it doesnt have the EE. And this bundle with Motorstorm is limited. In the end Sony may have a $499 80GB SKU in US, without EE.Who knows?
I still think thatthis will end as my first assumption, its a very stupid move by Sonyif not.
What i don't understand is that(regarding Europe price fix mostly) is that when someone spends $599, $499 or £425 on a console(Ps3) do they spend those amounts and THAT's IT. End of the line? Don't you need to buy games? Don't you need to buy extra controllers? These costs probably don't count right!?? I mean cmon, this is what made the 360 core a useless purchase NOT because it was cheap but it was more expensive to buy the extra stuff. the 80GB + Game+controller at $599 isn't a bad deal, it's A LOT better than $499 for just the machine.
The UK £425 is even better with +1 controller and +2 games. You're SAVING like £130 here. Is it a MENTAL thing to look at a cheaper price and think "woah thats' cheaper?"
Some people need to look up the word "VALUE" in the dictionary.

What are you talking about? I have NEVER seen any company force you to buy a game for $100 with their console. Now if they want to give it to you for free that is one thing, but forcing you to buy something a lot of people probably don't want is stupid and will backfire......you can quote me on that.
If they want to get rid of the emotion chip, then say so. You don't say, ok we are reducing the price of the PS3 because all the 3rd party developers are breathing down our necks....to raise back up to the exact same crazy price 2 weeks later. I mean I seriously hope this report is not true because they will lose ALL their exclusives from 3rd party devs. Heck I wouldn't be surprised if some turned to exclusive for X360 after this news. I guess you didn't read up and notice they were FORCED to cut their prices because 3rd party developers were putting pressure on them. How is this move going to go over with them now?
If you want to make this new sku with no emotion chip, fine do it but KEEP a $499 sku. If they raise the prices up again this will be a FIRST in the history for anything to have it's price raised twice while failing at the same time. Usually you reduce prices when your product is selling bad....you don't raise it twice in less than a year.

I dont find this very hard to believe. They said earlier this year that they were going to try an iPod style pricing scheme (keep it at the same price while making minor hardware upgrades - no I don't feel like finding the link but it was on Gamespot).
Also, to all the console fanboys who complain about new PC hardware every 6 monthes - lulz.

I guess you have never heard of a bundle and in this case it is a limited edition bundle, it's not for ever. Those people that want to have a game and a PS3 with larger HDD space for the same price will get it. Those who don't go get one for $500 at or store or even cheaper on ebay. Regardless since PS3 is now cheaper to produce they will lower the price again this holiday you can bookmark it.
so after this month ppl will only have the 599 one that doesn't have the EE for good backward compatibility. looks like ps3 will stay 3rd for years at this rate.Ontain

What is your point? It's still a limited edition sku still. You can call it a bundle, it doesn't matter. They would have to release a whole nother sku now after this is released is my point, even if it means making a whole new box for just the 80 gig machine without Motorstorm. The way that interview went I didn't get ANY hint they planned to release another sku anytime soon.Maybe they are out of the console business once the limited edition runs it's course which at this point I won't rule out because Sony is absolutetly the most shortsighted company I've ever seen.

ONce again if all the 60gigs sell out this month which they probably won't. All they said is they have stopped producing 60gigs there are still at least a million of them on the market that are still going to be $500 waiting to be sold out, while they introduce this cheaper to produce model with a bigger HDD. And for a limited time it comes with Motorstorm for $599. After Motorstorm is no longer available in the package and it's just the SKU itself of course the price will drop, for one the game is no longer included and the console it self cost less to make. The backwards compatibility thing is not set in stone, since it's now using emulation software the backwards compatibilty libraray will constantly be growing. MS uses the same thing except they started with emulation software off the bat. I would think Sony got their software to be as close to replicating what the EE chip does. On the other hand who buys a $500 console to play PS2 games?
I guess you have never heard of a bundle and in this case it is a limited edition bundle, it's not for ever. Is the 20 gb model still going to be around?

Let's say out of maybe 60,000-70,000 80gig SKU's at launch in early Aug 07.10,000 or less will coming a box with motorstorm, have you never heard of a bundle before, it's not hard to do. Most of them are going to be stand alone SKU's where it's only the console. Of course these one's with Motorstorm are going to come out first and stay for a bit before the one's without and of course the ones without are going to cost less because they don't have the same contents, like a 20gig PS3 box compared to a 60gig PS3 box get it. Wow like making a box is hard lol
its a scare tactic... dont beleive it. sony is not THAT stupid are they?
i think they are tryng to milk more sales..

wait wait wait.. i just read the rest of that article... what an arrogant prick....
But you're still asking people to commit GBP 425 to a games console. Isn't there a problem with the perception that that's an awful lot of money to shell out?
It is, but surprisingly, people are paying that amount of money for it. Now they'll get two games and an extra controller as well. It's not just a games machine as you know - you can play Blu-ray movies, you can download games from the network, you can browse the Internet and you can play music on it.

You don't understand the concept that the 80gig actually costs less to make than the 60gig. That is one of the main reasons they are doing it. And instead of making everyone have to by that one, they cut the price of the remaining60gigs onstore shelves around the countryby $100 to make it even cheaper for those that want a PS3 now and for this holiday season to go and buy one. It's both a plan to increase sales as well as reduce production costs so that they can then really reduce the cost of the console. It's really that straight forward.
What i don't understand is that(regarding Europe price fix mostly) is that when someone spends $599, $499 or £425 on a console(Ps3) do they spend those amounts and THAT's IT. End of the line? Well, $500 for the exact same package that was $600 is both cheaper and better value, and they're killing that. Why not just make the bundle for everyone?. And yes, people do care about the initial investment, even if it's not financially the best factor to consider.
They "win" E3 by the better presentation then "lose" it a day later by negating their biggest announcement?
I can't remember the last time I've seen something like this. Sony makes a big deal about reducing the price of their console to then annonce a price increase the next day........has anyone self owned themselves this bad at E3 before? I can't remember anyone ever doing something like this and I've been going to E3 for 6 straight years (this was the first I didn't go for my company).

60gig PS3's in America that you see all over are and will always be $500 until there are all sold out. They aren't making anymore of them because they cost more to make than this new model they are making (the 80gig) The main thing being the emotion engine. In the meantime to make some money after cutting the cost of the maybe 1 million unsold PS3, they will have a limited edition bundle of the 80gig that includes Motorstorm, after a while (you guys know how long limited editons last not that long, there will be 80gig SKU's alone that only have the console in the box, i'm sure the price will go down once again becaue one, the console cost Sony less money to make and two because their will no longer be Motorstorm in the 80gig box.

I understand you hope they release another sku right away that is $499 that doesn't have the extra game......that is not what the interviewer said would happen. Maybe this executive doesn't know what the hell he is talking about but it seems Sony needs a new PR department because they are making a mess out of everything.
If they are really going to release a new $499 sku with the emotion software, ANNOUNCE IT. Letting it get around the price of the PS3 is going back $599 2 weeks after they announced a price drop is the dumbest PR move I've ever seen. If you can't see this point then I'm sorry.
[QUOTE="Echo13791"]yeah, its old. Where is that HA! coming from? As a 360 owner i am sure you have read the article that came out recently saying ALL 11 million 360s, including yours and mine, have a fatal flaw that could lead to system failure. Not some, but ALL. jsstlhAnd..I'm sure you got the memo that said you WON'T pay to have it fixed....How cares, you still have to go without it when it breaks. You have to wait for it to be fixed before you can use it again. And what do you do when it breaks after the 3 year warrenty runs out. A 3 year warrenty is still a joke to me. With a system that breaks down as much as the 360 does, I wouldn't consider buying one until they give it a 5 or 6 year warrenty.
