Just wondering how a system with the best Action/adventure, Sports, Driving, Shooter, Puzzle, Music & RPG of the year is still said to lack in variey. Seems like 360 has something for everyone. I have 'em all soI don't worry about whats on what. Just like to debunk false System Wars nonsense.

Edit:

And on this list PS3 has ZERO Exclusives and 360 has 2 (Limbo & Reach). So don't say its all about multiplats either.

And a system either has variety or it doesn't. The 360 does. Period.

Because every single one of those games, minus Halo (which is a shooter, the one genre where the Xbox 360 doesn't lack variety) is also on the PS3. Thus compared to that system, it does lack variety.

People use this logic because multiplats isn't a reason to purchase a 360 over a PS3, exclusives are. Meaning if that you'll be missing out on more quality games if you have a 360 only. People should just get both though, but if you can only have one, PS3 is the way to go.

Speaking of nonsense, I couldn't help but notice that exactly two of the Genre Award Winners are exclusive to the Xbox 360 ... and one of them is Halo: Reach.

Best Action/Adventure - Red Dead Redemption (Multiplat) Best RPG - Mass Effect 2 (Multiplat) Best Strategy Game - Starcraft 2 Best Platformer - Super Mario Galaxy 2 Best Shooter - Halo Reach Best Driving - Need for Speed Hot Pursuit (Multiplat) Best Sports - FIFA 11 (Multiplat) Best Puzzle Game - LIMBO Best Music Game - Rock Band 3 (Multiplat) Wouldn't you rather say that the 360 has 2 exclusives of the 9 mentioned here instead of it can play 7 of the 9?

No there isnt, exclusives are what set the consoles apart and MS dont offer much variety in genres with their exclusives. Multiplats can be played on either so how does that set them apart?

I would say the PC Wii has the best variety. Wii has tons of unique titles in niche genres like Zack & Wiki, but fails in one or two key areas such as serious racing, which is where the PC fills in. PC also has amazing variety but lacks in Platformers, Split Screen, and in other areas.

That is a completely disingenuous argument. A library is either varied or it's not. It's variety as a descriptor is in no way logically tied to it's exclusives.

that's not the argument however. I am under the assumption that variety is being described versus the competition since absolutely nothing in SW exists without comparison. Sure I think the argument is stupid, but let's not confuse the issue vs whether its right or not. Variety (like everything)is judged vs competition in SW. We all know that.

I don't understand why you would waste time arguing semantics. Are you pleased with the exclusives MS is dishing out? I don't understand why Lems defend MS and the 360 at this point. I mean MS would rather spend 500 mil on ads then giving new and brilliant IPs. Why defend a company that does that? I love my 360 but I can't stand MS for following the path they have so far.

Are we allowed now to say Dachase, Tinted, and Ownmore are no longer ever allowed to talk about multiplats being good, pimp multiplats...etc? since they admit all that matter are exclusives?

And in that case If only exclusives matter...then the ps3's multiplats shouldn't be counted in lists? therefor the 360 wins by a giantlandside of good games exclusive and mutliplat?

They are talking about exclusives in SW regarding Wii, PS3, PC, and 360. Taken out of context like the OP, it doesn't make sense, but those other threads are referring to exclusives. You must also ask yourself the 7 of 9 games are multiplats right.

Bottomline, do we sit back and cruise on multiplats and hope and pray the console manufacture's barely churn out a game, if we are lucky, a few games a year? Or rather, should we speak up and hope that we see more from our console manufacturers? I don't want that, so I would rather fans speak up, and console manufacturer's listen.

Also it's nice to use gamespot's opinions on what they think is an award, but it's not going to go far in SW.

It has a varied library, it is accused of NOT having a varied library through skewed logic, and when I point this out I'm accused of arguing semantics. Hmmmm.... the good people at the OED take another beating.

Whether you can play it on another system or not does not take the variety away from the 360 library because it's still part of the 360 library. There isn't any rule that says a multiplatform must be acquired on a different platform...

At the end of the day, most of the games that casuals (who make up the majority of gamers) want to play are no longer exclusive, or never were. The value of exclusives have an inflated level of importance here in SW because people here care more (about games and arguing, each in equal measure) and because of that are in a denial about how the landscape has changed. The number of exclusives, as a percentage of the total library, has diminished drastically from previous gens is what I meant, I wasn't referring to 2009 vs. 2010 vs. 2011.

For the argument of "any such system lacks this" you have to only talk about exclusives, because any multiplat lends its variety to all the systems...

This is the gen of the multiplat, and NEITHER the 360 nor the PS3 is distinguishing itself and setting itself apart with a massive boatload of exclusives. Exclusives have become fewer and fewer. This has in fact concentrated the debate over those few piddly examples creating a false impression here in SW that exclusives still matter like they once did, or perhaps even matter more because they are so much less in number. This couldn't be further from the truth.dsmccracken

Ironic considering the sheer number of exclusives coming out in 2011 and the fact that Sony have been continuing to expand their first party, fewer and fewer eh? Exclusives are what set apart libraries of games at the end of the day.

2010 vs. 2011.

Sure exclusives may have reduced as a percentage of library compared to previous gens but that doesn't mean exlcusives are dead, games such as Halo, Gears, Gran Turismo and Uncharted still sell hugely from something like 4 million upwards, some of the highest rated games this gen are still exclusive games, outside of system wars exlcusives still play a part to the informed gamer who will (or at least should do in my opinion) choose the system with the games they like that cannot be found on another system. If there is no differences in library between systems then what is the point in choosing one over the other????

I would say the PC Wii has the best variety. Wii has tons of unique titles in niche genres like Zack & Wiki, but fails in one or two key areas such as serious racing, which is where the PC fills in. PC also has amazing variety but lacks in Platformers, Split Screen, and in other areas.Fried_Shrimp
I'd say more then one or two....

Well obviously to even have an argument you can't include mulitplats....cuz they're on every platform. lol

we're talking about the games of the year, which are on both systems. what does it matter that they're multiplats?

For the argument of "any such system lacks this" you have to only talk about exclusives, because any multiplat lends its variety to all the systems...

well, alright. this place amuses me sometimes.

When people say the 360 lacks variety, they are talking about exclusives.

What people need to realize is that the 360 do have a varied library, but most of the 360's "HIGHEST SCORING" genres are either FPS/TPS (shooters in general) and Racers, in which is the only areas that the 360 best the ps3 in. That's what people mean when they say that the 360 lacks variety in their exclusives, when compared to the ps3. While there are more multiplats this gen, there are some stand-out exclusives to be played that you won't find on other systems like Halo, LBP, DS, Infamous, Motorstorm, VC, MGS4 (these aren't 1st party, but their still exclusive), HR, GOW3, MNR, 3D Dot Heros,, and although UC does have heavy shooting mechanics, it does have a but of everything else and does offer an experience that isn't on the 360. Remember, Sony is mainly about exclusives this gen. Don't just say that exclusives are a thing of the past because your respected company doesn't hold them in 1st priority.

TC, you should know that it´s cool to hate the 360. When it comes to actual numbers and facts 360 allways delivers.
