He already sensed what will happen with Redfall.
Arkane NEVER miss!!
I'll be leaving Arkane at the end of May.

It's been 7+ crazy years but I feel like I need to untap my full potential onto fresh grounds.

Seven years is about right around the average tenure of a typical game developer. In fact, it's probably actually on the long side. Longer than that is considered unusual, but does happen, whereas shorter than 4-5 years may be a sign of an attrition problem.
Creative people inevitably get bored and want to do new things. Just the way it is.
Hopefully he finds what he is looking for! Thank you for everything and thank you for all your hard work on Redfall!
Best of luck to them! Glad they had a long, successful career at Arkane, especially with the upcoming Redfall (which I am sure will be a fun game).
What did he do though?
One of the level designers.
Ahh. They'll be fine.
How is this news
Someone finishes a game and moves on after 7 years at one studio.
Lame thread.
Well, look who the OP is.
RIP arkane.
From imsim like Dishonored and Prey to non imsim but still amazing shooter Deaathloop to now shit Redfall.
Absolutely devastated by this,I'm pleased TC searched the interweb looking for Xbox news and ran back to SW or we wouldn't have ever known this terrible news...
*Looks for a sarcastic emoji*
pretty sure this kind of thing happens all the time. people move around to different studios. not a big deal
plus, if he was there 7 years, he probably didn't do any work on the Dishonored games which are still the studios best work
RIP arkane.

Redfall is better than any game Remedy can possibly do. Remedy died after Quantum Break and Alan Wake.

No, usually people stay at the same job for nearly 50 years. This is an anomaly.
Other than Turd10, devs are leaving all MS studios. If Starfield is a 21fps disaster at launch, expect our boy Todd to leave within a year of the game's launch.
Xbox is in big trouble.
@loudheadphones: He doesn't mention Redfall at all.
Redfall is the new cow obsession. Halo Infinite might get dethroned.
Doesn't need to mention, but it is obvious he was there during the Redfall development. :/

Who did Max Payne?
@hardwenzen: You can't believe your nonsense! 😂
Nothing so hard to believe. Nobody believed Mixer would be shut down just a couple of years after launching.
@ghosts4ever: Not only are you still peddling that nonesense, but are now using an abbreviation for it 🤦♂️
So now its "xbox" game, its coop. so now its good. right?
Arkane known for immersive sim are dead now.

First off, no, just because it's on Xbox doesn't mean I want to play it and I won't be as I don't find Arcane games interesting.
Secondly "immersive sim" is made up genre, it's basically a buzzword and has no true definition as every dev will tell you that they make games to immerse gamers into their game worlds regardless of genre.
If you disagree, please give me give me your synopsis on it?

Its genre. Video game genre.
They used to make only immersive sim. Dishonored series, Prey. then shift to normal shooter Deathloop but it was innovative and fresh.
This Redfall is just wierd Borderlands left 4 dead type game with loot and loot mechanics that looks bad. Xbox ruined it.

Everything in that Wiki (c'mon man Wiki really?) can be done in many other genres of games, and no surprise you couldn't articulate it yourself. Like I said it's a buzzword.
Secondly This game was in development BEFORE MS bought Bethesda in 2021, and MS even canned the PS version, unless you believe Arcane started making the game in 2021 for Xbox & PS before MS thought hang on a minute why are we making as PS version and then canned the PS version lol, and was going to release in in 2022?
So, Bethesda "ruined" it, not Xbox. I see in my time away you have not gotten any wiser, I was hoping conan and cup could have helped you with that, but I guess not 🙄
I mean he says he wants to work on immersive sims so all the more power to him.
The term Immersive sim comes from immersive gameplay, and has nothing to do with immersion.
I can only speculate, but I take that as a sign of Arkane not wanting to work on "immersive sims" anymore in favor of chasing trends, and this dude wanted to continue making cool shit instead of stealing money from children, so he left.
Good studio starting out great, gets popular, turns to shit, making several people leave the company to start their own to continue making games they love. Seen it happen so many times it's not even funny.

Hope I'm wrong, but it feels like Arkane starting to focus on online games with microtransactions isn't far off.

They have two studios (correct me if wrong) and I understand that multiplayer games are very financially beneficial. However, I don't see the shift to online-only games or microtransactions with their last and upcoming game.

Yeah, Redfall will not have any microtransactions or in-game store, afaik. Which is nice. Hope that lasts, but I'm pessimistic about these things. If Redfall is a hit, I can totally see microtransactions creeping in. And if that's a hit, say hello to Arkane's new way to operate.
What?

Arkane, man... I don't even know what the faq they are making right now.
Deathloop, I didn't want to give it a chance at first, but I'm glad I did.
But Redfall looks off, very off. I just saw a trailer for The Division Heatlands, and wouldn't you know: the game uses the exact style of PVPVE and has health bars on top of enemies and numbers pop out when you shoot them.
It's just this uniform game design that you see in every game: streamlined gameplay, a social hub, live service, skins...
As much as I want to be hyped for Redfall (Arkane + harvey smith) I just can't shake the feeling that it reminds me of every single thing I hate in modern games right now.
