Well the last two next gen consoles will be releasing really soon and while neither have anything that seems to scream "this isn't possible on past gen consoles", they'll be getting there eventually.

What I would like to know from you guys is which games from the 7th gen gave you a new experience you feel wasn't possible in the gen prior and why.

Here's my list

-Metroid Prime 3: Corruption: The Prime trilogy's strongest suit has always been its immersive quality. The franchise puts you behind Samus' visor and lets you see what she sees. You don't explore with her, you explore AS her.

With the help of the wii mote and nunchuck controllers, you've never been more connected to the experience than in Metroid Prime 3 Corruption. I still consider it the most immersive video game I've ever played. The boundaries between player and game were blurred more than ever. It's an experience that was not possible on previous consoles and it improved the strongest aspect of a great franchise.

-The Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword: ever since the Wiimote was revealed, it's been everyone's fantasy to be able to swing a sword one to one. Well that extremely long wait was over with the arrival of Skyward Sword. This game is essentially the proof of concept for Wii. It offers a well designed adventure that stars the consoles biggest feature at its core: motion controls and it doesn't disappoint in that regard.

The controls couldn't be more perfect or responsive and the playground they give you to mess around in is excellent. Not only is there a greater freedom of movement afforded by the new control scheme, but also a greater range of freedom in taking out your enemies. Perhaps some of the greatest moments this gen came from my encounters with Ghirahim. Those battles showcase better than anything just how engaging and relevant motion controlled gaming can be.

-The open world genre: I think we can all agree that this is a setting that always has room for improvement in this industry. If you want to prove that your console is capable of new, never before possible experiences, look to the open world games. New tech means bigger and richer worlds. Last gen saw no shortage of quality games in this style. Red Dead Redemption transported us to the wild west, Batman Arkham Origins let us strike fear into the heart of Gotham's criminals, Just Cause 2 let us go nuts in a massive world full of everything, and Assassin's Creed has let us live out our favourite periods in history. I feel like none of these games were possible before and that similar games in our future will show us what the PS4 and Xbox one a truly capable of.

Rock Band: With the constant DLC and only 3 mainline games; you could have been rocking for a very very long time. Say what you will about the DLC, they were consistent and really kept adding life into the games.

Well, Minecraft simply wouldn't function on a 6th generation system.

Well pretty much any non cross gen game that isn't an indie/sports game is impossible to do on a ps2/xbox/gc.

Assassin's Creed.

I'm playing the first AC at the moment, trying to finish it after giving up so many times because of repetition. And while it's a flawed game in many ways the way the cities and crowds are rendered are not possible on the previous gen. It wouldn't have had the same impact.

Grand Theft Auto 5 - The scale is huge and with the graphics (although kinda meh, put them in a large open world and it's impressive)

Uncharted - One of the most visually impressive games ever made on a console. Definitely could not have been released on the 6th gen.

god Of War 3 - See Uncharted

Forza 3 and 4 - Very visually impressive and the audio is very good too.

Killzone - Hate the franchise and think it's boring, but the graphics, while gray, are kinda beautiful.

I'll also say the open world genre... don't see the way any of the more advanced current open world games could work on 6th gen systems without severe downgrades, which would suck out the essence of the game.

Aside from that, there's the matter of MP oriented titles, since on-line infrastructure on current gen consoles is miles ahead of anything we ever had before.

However, if I'm allowed to bring in the PC, I'll also mention the Crysis franchise, Crysis games would be unrecognizable without their trademark top quality visuals.

Son i have never seen a blinder fanboy for Nintendo than you since the guy who said the Wii u had the power to double the GPU. because of the tablet.

Metroid Prime 3 was completely possible with anything that is a pointer.

Zelda SS could have also been replaced with any every day add-on. Your only argument is out the box.

For Open world, yes, a lot of games that are open world where not even bigger than San Andreas the first half, however the second half you have a point. (Pc is excluded in this of course.)

But I think your first two were listed for a reason.

Pretty much any 7th gen game is possible on the 6th gen but with much worse graphics.

Probably anything is possible if you lower the graphics enough. That just leaves us with this gens gimmicks, motion controls...LOL.

P.S. blind fanboys just follow companies without reason. I'm no blind fanboy. I can back up why I think certain games are good no matter how much you disagree with me.

Perhaps I was unclear. By that I meant that most games in the open world genre 7th gen weren't possible 6th gen. Not that the entire genre wasn't possible then.

Skyward sword... so many wtf were they thinking decisions in the game.

I really don't think it's worth it to play that game more than once, with all the shit you have to get through to see the good stuff. But, the good stuff is really good. It's a one and done, please don't mess up again aonuma.

That's kind of interesting... It might be the Zelda I replayed the most because it was so densely packed that every moment was eventful. I spent well over 200 hours playing and replaying Skyward Sword. It was just so fun start to finish.

Pretty much everything that has immersion and emotions as major factors in the games. Without the motion and face capture, they're just not nearly the same game.

In gameplay functionally the 2 generations are not different, but there's more to the games than I think people are willing to acknowledge.

:S what a strange thread i mean all the games on ps3/360 could not of been possible on ps2/xbox thats a fact.we are just people who play games, so all we look at is graphics just because it looked like a ps2/xbox game doesn't mean that the controls and other stuff was capable on a ps2/xbox

Crysis' series physics and AI (not just fancy shaders and shadows) though physics seemed less integral with the last two games. Maybe Dragon Age won't run well with the programmable AIs (DA2 in highest difficulty w/o pause is a blast!). Don't think pre PS360 gen CPUs could handle those.

Seems the rest can be done w/ just uglier graphics, worse draw distances and higher LoD bias. (GPU)

I think waggle controls can be done on a PS2/Xbox OG/GC.

Probably one of the few games that couldn't be done with the PS2, Xbox, and Gamecube.

Left 4 Dead I think couldn't be done either. Would the Director AI have been possible with Xbox, Gamecube, or PS2 hardware?

The physics alone would make a 6th gen console choke to death and die.

They were done perfectly on the Dreamcast via Samba de Amigo, iirc.
