PlayStation3 registered an 82 percent drop in hardware sales for the week ending April 1, it's second week on sale in the UK, according to official Chart Track hardware sales figures we're not supposed to have.

This is not really a surprise, as everyone who wanted a PS3 now has a PS3. Its brief blip of possible popularity has ended.

Chart Track only publicly released software sales figures for the last week, which were slightly more flattering to PS3 - showing over a 60 percent drop, as everyone who only bought Motorstorm bought Resistance and everyone who only bought Resistance bought Motorstorm.

http://www.ukresistance.co.uk/

The UK's brief love affair with the PS3 is over it seems.

That website is really biased. I would assume the drop is because the launch is over.

It's normal for sales to spike at launch and then wane again. But I will say that I don't think the love affair was quite as 'record breaking' as it seemed based on press releases. Sony delayed launch to stockpile a ton of units. Many of these were sold to retailers, and the press is like "Record Breaking Sales" instead of "Long Delay Results in More PS3s In Stores"

Yeah, it's pretty dramatic.. I still cant believe Fanboys were so adamant that sales would last at such a high rate.. It was a launch..!

I think we all expected a huge drop after the first week since there was so much supply available. most ppl that wanted one got one. now it'll be just the trickle in buys, which for an expensive game console will be much lower.

Some cows will probably say it's down to supply, but the PS3 was in ample supply for launch and close to being sold out. It's clear the demand just isn't there right now.

Well that website is a joke website, BUT if the 82% is correct, seeing as the PS3 sold 173,000 in its first week in UK. the second week it would have sold 31,140.

Thats 204,140 units in 2 weeks. Thats amazing! Well done Sony.

UKresistance? Oh please this site is crap.

I don't know about the consoles but the sales for Motorstorm and Resistance have dropped by 60%, but they are still at No. 2 and 3 in the UK Gamecharts...

And my predictions come true...

I said the PS3 would have a strong launch in Europe comprising of Sony fans, technophiles and those swept-up by the hype. Once the dust has cleared we are left with very few people excited by the prospect of buying a PS3.

Not at £425 it wouldn't, the PS3 has a very niche audience on price alone.
