Yea i know this score doesnt count here but Wow the review makes it sound much better than the gamecube version :D

The definitive Version

Import review: You've probably played this game before - it was one of the greatest works to come from the last generation of console hardware, critically regarded as the definitive entry in Capcom's Resident Evil series. But the Wii Remote has changed the boundaries of what's possible in games, moving Capcom to sense an opportunity and pounce.

Ostensibly this new edition is nothing more than a rehash of the GameCube and PS2 versions of Resident Evil 4, but in actuality - thanks to the wonders of Wii - it emerges as a full, bloody rebirth. (Appropriately, it's bloody good too.)

So how does it work, we bet you're itching to know? Here's some salve: in one hand the Nunchuk provides character movement control, and in the other hand the Remote is your weapon. No surprises there then, really, but this set-up does make perfect sense.

By dividing control of Leon's movement and gun use between two hands, Capcom has redefined the game's aiming system and freed the game from one of its former niggles. Now you can actually shoot your enemies' individual limbs, taking out heads or legs, with relative ease - something that proved frustratingly awkward on GameCube.

The pointer calibration here is so sharp you could cut yourself with it: even compared with Nintendo's own gunwork in the Duck Hunt-**** passage of Wii Play, it feels like there's greater precision in Capcom's handiwork. The crosshair visible on-screen doesn't shake (unless you're really scared and can't control your hands, of course) and there's no need to move your whole arm (unless you want to copy the hired stooges on Wii TV ads) - the result is an effortless and flawless targeting system that does exactly what you demand of it.

While the Remote is pointed screenward, a crosshair shows up on the display - changing from an unobtrusive grey through to lime green as you pull the B trigger, and running red when your target is in sight. Just point, shoot and dodge the exploding villager brains.

The Nunchuk is put to equally good use, but in an altogether more understated way. Hold Z and Leon will run as you direct his movement with the analogue stick. Tap C and Leon will produce his knife. Your left hand will know that it's holding the history of game control; your right hand will have all the new-age fun.

Even away from the regular pattern of walk-stop-shoot-walk, the Wii Remote is applied to more interesting actions. A quick double-shake of the remote reloads Leon's gun, for example, which works well as a satisfying and simple method for ammo recharge. The Remote's speaker is also used to good effect, chiming in with appropriate effects when receiving radio signals or changing ammo.

Elsewhere, during interactive cutscenes, the Remote is used to help Leon out of tricky situations. Early on, for instance, some villagers try to crush Leon beneath a boulder, which they push from the top of a hillside.

To get out of the way, you first have to waggle the remote like fury, which causes Leon to sprint (like fury). Then, at the climax of the scene, a quick A-B button press is enough to make Leon dive into a nearby bush.

In terms of the content here, almost everything has remained the same as the GameCube and PS2 versions. Or rather, this edition takes the best from both of those versions. The visuals are based on the Cube game's engine, but nicely upscaled to 480p (progressive scan) and rendered in 16:9 (widescreen).

The PS2 extras are also here, though, including the Ada Wong side-story, the Removal Laser, and unlockable costumes for Leon and Ashley. And, right from the off, Amateur and Easy modes are playable alongside the (resolutely tough) Normal difficulty game. Everything is in place, then, to make this the definitive version of Resident Evil 4.

We're not going to complain because Capcom hasn't built a new Wii game from the ground up. That's not the point of this release. And really, why change a winning formula (beyond the introduction of control improvements)? Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition retains the perfect incidental music of Resi 4, causing you to suspect that something's afoot when nothing is, and making you feel almost comfortable before the biggest shocks are unleashed. It's flowing with the directorial menace of Hitchcock circa The Birds and Marnie.

It has the looks, it has the compelling level design, and it has the scary bits. Check, then: this is Resident Evil 4 all over again, but slightly better.

It has nothing to do with the other RE games. RE ended with Code Veronica. RE4 should have been called something else.

I didn't expect the Japanese gaming community to be more sensitive than the US community.  I wonder how they handled the sequences where you blow the head off only to have a plagas come out in it's place.

Wouldn't know anything about that, I don't play racers - they're not my thing. I don't even know what Forza got here, didn't really pay attention to it.

FPS's are my thing though (and certain TPS's like RE4 and Gears,) I played Red Steel for several hours. it was horrid, the level design was generic, the control scheme was terrible, the game was so bland it hurt. 8.0? More like a 5.

I also love RE4, probably the best game in the last 5 to 7 years.... I poured over a hundred hours into it. That being said, I can't take a site that gave Red Steel an 8 seriously when it comes to any reviews they put out (especially for shooters of any kind.)

Cool for those who've never played RE4, but I still think it's kinda silly for people who've played the game to death to get this version as well, some say the controls aren't that great, and the walking controls are worse than the gamecube version, plus it's to easy with the Wiimote.

Sorry to be negative but it's not a rebirth, it's a PS2 port with the gamecube graphics. One of the best games I've ever played but I own the gamecube version and don't feel like paying another 30 quid to play it with Wiimote.

Saying all that I'll still probably get it because I own all the gamecube RE games and can't resist anything RE, damn you Capcom!!!

Correction Avdgamer. It's the fourth. the PC version flopped miserably, but I do expect the Wii version to do much better than the PC version, on the fact that the PC version didn't have mouse controls.

Yeah but it was really hard to do, it drove me nuts trying to blast off a guys arm before he haxed me with an axe because I sometimes missed. I like how the review mentions that when you aim, something tells you that your enemy is in range, this is good for the shot gun lover in me that always tried to kill enemies at a distance but it wasnt effective enough at range, so at least I can tell that I am going to be in range easily now. Gonna pick this sucker up for sure.

The PC version sucked for controls. The PS2 version had dumbed down graphics and the controls were tougher to master over the GC version imo. I think the Cube one was the best even though it lacked the extra content, which will now be in the game.

If this game gets AAA here and Ninja Gaiden Sigma doesn't, i will cringe. I mean, it's a 3 year old game that was released on Nintendo's last gen console being rereleased for their next gen console. Not only that, but it was multiplat too, for PS2 and PC.

Not denying the PC version sucked. 7.8 was way to high. It was really bad. But it still makes it the Fourth Version, reminds me of all the Ninja Gaidien remakes. I personally think that the Wii version will be the best. Resident Evil seams like a perfect game for the control system.

Sighs this site doesn't mean much.

Still the game looks solid with the new controls, only wished it wasn't a straight port with the new controls only.

That site gave Red Steel an 8.0.

An 8.0 for Christ's sake.

Bill_McBlumpkin

My friends seem to really like Red Steel.

Your friends have tastes as bad as that site's, then.

Bad, bad game.

I disagree, it was mildly enjoyable and underrated IMO.

OK.

Have fun playing one of the worst FPS's (of the "known" FPS's) released in the last 4 years.

Let me guess, Nintendo fanboy?

4  player multiplayer is awesome. Im so excited I can finally play a console shooter without autoaim.

Multiplayer is good to passable, but the single player... it's terrible.

Haziqon don't let him know you enjoyed a game that didn't do well!

Because that automatically makes you a fanboy... somehow

let me guess, a Nintendo fanboy?

I love some games on the Wii, I loved TP and Paper Mario.

Being so devoted to Nintendo for no reason at all and being so starved for great FPS's that you actually carry on about how great Red Steel is though, please.

HOLY COINCIDENCE!

I'll probably rent this for the extra content from the PlayStation 2 version since I haven't played it.

I will definately pick this up no matter what it gets. Simply because I never owned the GC or PS2 version.
