Targeting 4K is the real issue. If there is to be a big leap in visuals next-gen, then 4k needs to be put to the side. UE demo ran at 1440p/30fps on PS5. Lets say they optimize it further, you would need what... a 30TF GPU to run that at 4K/60fps? Yeah, not happening. 12TF is not even good enough for 4K/60fps on all current gen games. Targeting 1440p/60fps should be the target for developers that want to push visuals.
You mean 30fps. Doubling the frame rate is almost as difficult as quadrupling the resolution.
I don't think that is the problem here.
I am going to play devils advocate here, but i think 343 simple screw up,maybe it is a time thing, this game is say to cost $500 millions i don't see the investment here.
I think 343 hit a wall with this games, time ran out and by the time they try to do something on series X there was nothing they could do,i also think that explain the lack of Ray Tracing which even Spiderman has.
Is not so much that the game look bad,is the assets the textures, all look average is not something you will see on a game with ultra settings, and sure 4k/60 is a hit but come one BF5 look better than this in 4k by allot and runs at 4k/60 on a 5700xt OC.
I think time ran out and they were face with using xbox one assets, hell it even have texture streaming problems in many places and this was running on PC confirmed representative of how it would look on xbox series X,which by knowing MS mean 2080ti probably.
I still think 343 mess up thanks to MS wanting to keep the xbox one alive.
