Seriously, everyone, what does it all mean?

In a topic about Sonic and the Secret Rings, I see this: "I predicted it'd be AAA!  7.6!  I was right!"

Then I see topics asking for your predictions on various upcoming games like Halo 3 or Crysis, and they give you choices like A, AA, AAA, AAA!!  Normally, I'd asume something like the prediction transfers over to the number system like a report card from school, but no, instead, in other topics, AAA is 7.5 or something, while in others, an AAA title is 9 or higher.

I really don't get it.  What are you all doing?  Just throwing up a dice and saying that "It's going to land on A SIDE!" and then just saying you're right every time?  If you're going to predict something, bet on a single side that actually exists rather than making up a scale that you can change at any given moment just so you can say you weren't wrong.  All-in-all, the A, AA, AAA scale is really a garbage fest.
