We all know the PS3 is the most prevalent Blu-ray player. Since the PS3 can also play games, will there be an onslaught of Blu-ray movies with free game demos? This is a Win/Win situation for Blu-ray and the PS3. Blu-ray movies with game demoes is an added bonus that DVD, digital downloaded, or satelite movies will not have. Only the PS3, not the 360 nor the Wii, can play these demoes.

It's gonna happen with at least one title...from 1up:

"First, and most significant, is that the first run of Blu-ray release of Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children Complete will include a bonus containing demo videos of Final Fantasy Versus XIII and Final Fantasy Agito XIII. More significantly, though, the extra disc will also include a playable demo of the real Final Fantasy XIII."

Yeah, I think I read somewhere of a few companies planning to do it, but I don't think any one has done it yet.

This could potentially swallow up potential future PS3 gamers who currently own a PS3 primarily for its Blu-Ray Movie compatibility.

Expect demos from movies with game counterparts though : they may not be blockbuster games, but they definitely showcase HD gaming.

TC is right, if Xbox 360 owners wanted this, they'd have to get it via Xbox marketplace or on a DVD.... :|

Hmm. You once claimed the PS3 was superior because Blu-ray helped "get girls".

I'm sorry, but I just couldn't take you seriously after that.

I hope.

Getting free demos especially in countries where psSTORE is not available would be pretty cool.

ah the $30 it takes to buy that movie can't get you demos like Too Human (which is out right now). I'm not a lemming I just think that is such a stupid comment. It's just a demo. Now I can't wait for FFXIII but its just a demo. You guys going to argue about exclusive demos now?

So you pay $30 for that demo $40 for GT5P and so on. 360 has far more demos and also you can play the demos with silver membership so it is free for 360 users to play their demos.

I feel for the cows having to pay for demos.

Blu-ray is so slow though...All the extra space is used to put the copies of part of the game to make it easier so the disk doesn't need to spin as far making the extra space irrelivant.

I hate ps3's but I have to admit that ps3's are capable of better graphics its just the developers can't use it to its full potential. Right now the xbox 360 has better graphics but the ps3's time will come. or it might not.

Its logical that PS3 owners can't get a demo like Too Human as a 360 game

But while both PS3 and 360 has FF13, only PS3 will be receiving the demo, thats the real deal.

Are we paying $30 for a demo? No we ain't. We're paying for the bluray movie + the demo.

Cows have to pay for demo? Who're the people having to pay to play online even. Everyone on the Ps3 Wii PC PSp DS else is doing it free.

What i have an SDTV ????

There's not even any point in Blu-Ray movies, so it doesn't make a difference.

DVD's look exactly the same on my TV as BR disks.

Lemmings are in total denial.

They accuse Cows of having to buy a movie to play the demo. Weren't they the ones to purchase a 7.8 game to play Halo 3?

Cows to spend $30 on the demo. Yet they have to pay $50 to play online even?

They pay for XBL and not even receive the demo? LMAO !

Crackdown stands as a worthy game by it own merits.

Besides, just because we don't agree with something that doesn't mean we are "in denial".

The Blu-Ray could start with demo's on the same disc the movie is on in the beginning and later on when the storage space of the Blu-Ray increases it could even have a full mini game on the disc.

No matter how much doubters bash Blu-ray the fact is that developers do see a benifit in it and are greatful for it. Most games already are using great amount of capacity on Blu-ray and PS3 hasn't even been in the market for 2 years. Before this gen is over Blu-ray will prove its dominance and games on DVD's will just not cut it since the space would be too small.

Its a slippery slope. To me, the whole point of a demo is to let you try out a game (I HATE that stores don't let you return video games... piracy for consoles is nowhere near as easy or prevalent as say music or movies). It'd be cool if the demo came with the movie and would also be on PSN too, but if the demo is exclusive to the movie... I don't like that. I think bascially making people have to pay for something in order to get a demo defeats the whole point of a demo.

[warning: this part is on topic but is also a general rant against console demos]

If console demos were like old shareware for PCs (ex. Quake's demo was free and included like 6 guns and had then entire first campaign of the game which was like 8 levels AND it had online multiplayer for 8 people) I could see making a demo like that exclusive to a movie pack in, Qore or something else. But every RPG demo i've played... its like a insanely small dungeon, you really get no clue about the story or pretty much anything. All you get is battles. Even then it only lasts like 10 minutes. 10 minutes is nowhere near enough time gauge the quality of an RPG. Console demos barely even function as a real deal play test for a game beacuse they last like 10 minutes max alot of times. Games last for hours and many things that might be fun for 10 minutes at a time prove to be boring and dull over the long haul. Imagine the impression people would have gotten from an Assassin's Creed demo that was only like one assassination mission vs one that was like the first 1/3 of the game.

Its almost like they are designed more to fool you than to really give you a good feel for the game and how it it will work. From that perspective, you'd think they'd want to fool as many people as possible.

More significantly, though, the extra disc will also include a playable demo of the real Final Fantasy XIII."

gamer-adam1

umm they could of done the same thing on DVD, a second DVD wont kill anyone

They did do the same thing on DVD, as a matter of fact they continue to do the same thing, granted teh majority of demos are for the PC.
