I think the industry is going to grow up in the next few years. They are going to rival movies in their presentation and acceptance. I can see more effort put into the story, the maturity, and the atmosphere. Although we will see your stupid hack n slash kill everything that moves type of games, I think we are going to get to a point where a game's plot can truly make you cry.SicknicMan...dead on :) and you know what game really kinda has "hinted"..not completely done all this..but hinted at what your saying? the game was on the original xbox and called INDIGO PROPHECY. now remember..im not praising this game as the one who started it all...but it really does show us what games(and i agree with you) will become ;) good call
In my opinion, the things that will "wow" the industry are as follows:
Xbox 360- Mass Effect if done correctly, along with Fable 2. Those could be epic action/RPGs that show that action/RPGs could be as deep and involving as traditional RPGs.
The Wii, its popular now, and its growing in non-gamer base, and if it can hit true cross-generational appeal, gaming could well be on its way to becoming as ubiquitous as watching TV or movies.
PS3, if Home and Little Big Planet both work as well as promised, Sony may have hit on an idea that is "gold".
PC - cross-platform play with 360 could be something special, but I think Crysis will puch the graphical boundaries, but PC play will remain relatively steady in its ways, unless some kind of MMO game that is not an RPG takes off.
Spore. Gaming will not be the same ever again.
Mass Effect with its dialogue.
Bioshock with its destruction of FPS cliches.
Super Mario Galaxy with its evolution of the 3D platforming genre.
I aree....who can forget SPORE..........MEATBAG :P and to those who dont know....when i call this guy meatbag...believe me its not a bad thing(to all mods...this is in no ways name calling but a ref to a term in a game by an award winning character). if any of you have played KOTOR and know who that robot is in his sig...you get it.......MEATBAGS :)Spore. Gaming will not be the same ever again.

Man, God of War is some very simplifyed version of Ninja Gaiden, and Ninja Gaiden got a lot from Blade of Darkness
i stand corrected ;) at the same time....i did mention in my topic title that this was none company bias....i guess i was just trying to "practice what i was preaching", you know. im not about to just name a bunch of Nintendo and MS titles when i was trying to start a friendly topic. but i do see your point bro ;) peace[QUOTE="akuma303x"]online tv mode. or spectator mode or whatever.jazrealO M G your icon is the best...is that raccoon supposed to be...i cant remeber the name..but it was from studio Ghibli( the great Miyasaki). and by the way.....MAN all(everyone who has posted so far)your ideas are awesome...thanx :)your next thread should be what we would take away from the nextgen expirience. i would get rid of the bloom effect. that thing is horrible. and thanx for the comment. i would also like to add that motion sensing will not go away. movie playing game consoles are not worth the extra money. the ps3 will set a standard for console physics, but fall short of graphical expectations. the 360 already has gone above and beyond what i expected of it. but it needs a few more features to be complete. for the nextgen systems after these , they should incorporate a playable handheld that is part of the system itself. or maybe a way to use your cell phone as a memory unit for games. that way you can take them around without any hassle period. these are just random thoughts of a madman.
Tbh, there is only one game this generation that really has me interested. Yes, I'm all excited for stuff like Mass Effect, Heavenly Sword, and MP3, but there is only one game that truly holds my attention. That game would be Sadness, because I am so falling for Nibris's hype! A lot of the the game will be based off of Slavic mythology, (Best mythology ever imo) will have 10 different endings, and is meant to scare the player by atmosphere, not piles and piles of dead bodies.
One reason why people might not like this game is because it is in black and white, but I think that just adds to the experience and style.
Smash Bros. is one of the most unique fighters out there. It was a cult classic on the 64 and Melee was the highest selling game on the Cube. So I've got no reason not to be looking foward to Brawl.
I also have a tremendous amount of respect for the Sonic series. *pokes avatar* Though the most recent games have been only good to horrid, there was once a time where these games were fantastic and had rave reviews. But what I really love about Sonic, is that it taught us that platformers could go FAST.

I also have dreamed of some cross plats ideas. i had this idea where a game(mmo obviously) uses the latest in community gaming....but the game would also have different versions on different plats..like phones and handhelds...yet each game contributes to the other plat. for example...some items in the main game would actually be made in the phone game and sold and transfered to the main game from the phone version. all versions would contribute to the other....can you IMAGINE? talk about COMMUNITY. anywayz...i really appreciate and respect your views....good job:)

i just got done listening to a podcast about that. I don't even like RTS, but i've gotta admit that it sounds like an awesome idea.[QUOTE="Sicknic"]I think the industry is going to grow up in the next few years. It's a shame they never finished it properly. It was one of those games that had me completely drawn in.
Man, whatever you all see in Mass Effect, I don't see it...
And I think there won't be any revolutions until I make the game I've been thinking about for 5 years :P (j/k..... maybe  )

So in all of your "DIE HARD GAMER" opinions....what is the NEXT BIG THING in gaming. we have seen so many revolutions. GTA SANDBOX set the standard for so long. Halo taught us that FPS did NOT just have to be "on foot all the time". the dance games..the GOD OF WAR arcade action with RPG elements( I TOLD SOOOO MANY OF YOU THAT RPG's would be a mainstream fix an ALL games one day....and nobody can deny...its here), MS's gamer points....we have seen so many inovations in gaming...not just graphics(over rated) but actual GAMEPLAY. so whats the next BIG thing in gaming. I think Mass Effect will take gaming to a whole new level...and come on peopz...put away your loyalties and admit that this game could be ONE of the next big things in gaming...IMO. even if it was on PS3 or Wii...i can tell you that i would say the same thing...just too many innovations going on in Mass Effect. Anywayz...that game is just MY pick. I really do want to know what "element" will be the next big thing, even if its not nec a "game"(cool if so) but maybe even just the IDEA in gaming itself.....GOjazreal
This is just off the top of my head but I think the whole FPS meets MMO could be the next big thing maybe.
I'm very interested in Huxley although I won't get it if there's a monthly fee. But FPS's are popular and MMO have a huge life in the PC world as do FPS's. A combination would be big assuming I missed one that already is doing it very well then whoops
The next big thing for me is a real console sim racer when GTR comes to the 360 now that's huge. Also huge is Crysis basically redefining what is possible for fps. I also am looking forward to supreme commander on pc to advance rts to the next level. I also can't wait for unreal 2007 on pc as well.
I think the next big thing is the translation of ideas and concept art to the finished product. When you see games like Lost Odyssey and Heavenly Sword seemingly go straight from the concept art stage to the finished product, you know that the power next-gen consoles offer is very advantageous to game design.
A stab at the Wii maybe, but next-gen is allowing developers to finally show off things like a realistic human smile, tears, emotions and environments only thought possible with CGI.
