a chance to BLOW UP! -Smite/XB1/MOBA-

with Smite and Neverwinter coming to the XB1 shortly the MOBA game scene has a chance to "blow up" on consoles, as stated in the video. i'm just wondering what the opinion is here. does anyone here agree with their discussion on the matter....will it translate well to Xbox One, will it catch on like they think? a question mainly too hermits who have experience with MOBA games and too Xbox One gamers who are developing any interest in the genre.

They can't take that risk financially.

Smite could gain some margin of popularity, maybe even enough to float a competitive scene but compared to something like League or DOTA 2 a controller can't accommodate proper movement and the finer nuances to create a mechanically sound player.

But yeah, Smite should be pretty kickin on the One, I hope it's received well.

I'm excited for these 2. I'm really into playing online games like Diablo 3 and I remember this MOBA game I think it came out like 2 years ago on 360 (forgot the name) it was in the Lords of The Rings universe, it was great and more about combat strategies than loot....was a nice change. MOBA controls do fine on console.

So do MOBA's count now?

Hard to tell, depends how well smite plays... and will the console community accept it? The fact that it's on the less popular console might limit it too... if it was on both maybe. Who knows...

Why is World of Tanks on Xbox360 and not Xboxone? seems they are missing a trick there...

It would be silly to dismiss the potential of mobas on console. LOL and DOTA have far more players than any console multiplayer game. And they have staying power. I have been playing dota2 since launch. Ive actually been playing some form of dota since 2004(dota the mod, HON, now dota2).

I dont think smite will come close to these games, but it will develop a following. On what mobas do well is keep their players playiing for a loooong time

Careful, the peasantry around here believe it's the devil playing tricks on you when you state that there are games out there so good that you will play them for 10+ years..... only the next 10 hour movie game or cod rehash could possible be good.

Hell, they even try to tell me that "DoTA 2 is only that popular because its Free2play!" ..... yea.... 1.2 million players at peak, massive tournements etc are ALLLLL because it's free2play.

Heh. I personally have not put a dime into Dota2 and I have 750 hours played on steam. 2 of my best friends have put hundreds of dollars into it and have over 1500 hours played. Dota2 is most likely more profitable than any console multiplayer game as well.

my guess is it will be pretty fun on console (i had a blast with lol until i got tired of it) but once huge time sinks like world of tanks and elder scrolls come out i prob won't put much time into it.

thanks for the input everyone. the games have an interesting premise to them...and there seems to be a lot more to them than it looks.i hope Xbox guys try it out.

plus Smite has 60 characters ready and waiting already they said. with some game characters based around Greek/Roman mythology, i'm all for this getting popular. i've always loved Greek/Roman mythology(and Nordic).

they're making a Xbox One version of World of Tanks. i saw an announcement somewhere recently. its coming out sometime this year.

I'm getting Smite for the Xbox One when ever it drops. Also the only reason these MOBA's have the amount of players that do have is because they are free and some people drop money on the game. Now if Smite has the pay 60 and get all the people I'm buying.

It's funny how fanboys want to bad mouth one of the most popular genre of games right now just because their precious piece of electronic plastic doesn't have a MOBA coming out right now. I'm sure once The Playstation announces their first MOBA game, and one will come to their console at some point, those same people will be the first to praise it and talk about how great of an addition it is to the playstation library.

I would try Smite on consoles, but I'm guessing I'll still the the genre on PC.

Definitely looking forward to it coming to the X1. Watch the competition they had on twitch and it looks like fun. It got a Diablo look to it and with 60 gods at lunch and I think it's $30 to get all of them at once. Otherwise, it's going to be rotation lineup of 9 gods every week and it's free to play. Great to see PC genres coming to consoles and nice to see MS stepping up and bringing new experiences to their fans.

The studio that runs smite gets a ton of hate but they are running smite pretty well.

Smite isn't like a traditional MOBA so it would actually work on consoles. The major MOBA would never work on consoles without a keyboard and mouse.

I played so much Smite during the beta and release months. Probably my favorite of the lot (even though Dota 2 is the best as a game) and worth a look.
